Hi everyone, and yes 2big I have been missing in action! I have been on a three week vacation. I stayed pretty much on maintenance while we were gone. I didn't lose, but the best part is I didn't gain! We had a great time in Arizona, but we are back to winter now and looking for spring! I got lots of walking while I was gone- even with this sore heel- I cannot seem to get rid of this bone spur- I am trying to avoid surgery on it. I am going to go back to Induction for a while because I need to get better control of diabetes- it wasn't too bad while I was gone - but I was having some higher morning readings than I would like. I am glad to be back on a more disiplined diet- I have come to enjoy the way I feel when I am eating fewer carbs. I missed the board while I was gone and am glad to be back in touch! :hug

naw maybe they are addicted to watching curling like I have been, had a tooth implant surgury done yesterday and laid on sofa with ice bag and watched curling, actually quite pain free, what excellent games.
ta for bugging these folks 2big, people seem to disappear here and then resurface, methinks we are all a bit of a hundini.LOL

We disappear until we have a problem- then we come out of the woodwork!! We know you guys are here to straighten us out! I have been having some kind of problem with my BG readings- they have been going up- even though I am eating less than 20 carbs a day- and my morning readings have been up too- around 150 - my Dr wants me to start on meds again- YUK- she want s me to take Glucovance- which I hate taking because it causes me lots of lows when I exercise. I haven't decided yet what I am going to do. It is frustrating because my last A1C was 4.6 and I am not doing anything different. It must be my liver acting up again. Any suggestions??

Hi guys. Sorry to hear about the tooth sugery Canuck. I am still having problems with my morning readings. This morning was 7.3. What kind of liver issues cause high morning readings Sassy?

Still the same with my weight as well. I am stuck in the 220's and I've tried more exercise (my knees are killing me), less carbs and less calories. I fell of the wagon at Christrmas a little but I just came back to my pre-Christmas weight in mid-January, and this is where I've stayed, so in essence, I am the same weight I was last September. This is very frustrating. No I don't eat Frankenfoods, but I'm thinking of it if this scale doesn't move.

Ya Binsk I hear ya, I get like that too.....

Sass before going on meds have a c peptide test done, it tells whether or not you are making any insulin, how much and they can even go further and assess pancreas and its state….I would think with your good history your doc would want to do that… if not then will need some trtment or sure, if you are, also have a liver functioning test done.
I know stem cell trtment for II is just around the corner in Canada as they have come so far with it, so I try to keep my body healthy so I can be a candidate.

Are you ill with flu or have been, are you exhausted or stressed.

Jeez, sometimes for diabetics they wear out their organs even with good control just because diabetes is a wasting disease and that can be the process. I have a friend with an A1C of 5.4 and exercises and same weight as you and had a foot amputation, was a buggar and she felt so ashamed yet she managed her disease well.
See an endo before going back on glucovance as it may not be that you need something to make you produce more insulin…. but something to open your cells if making enough insulin, something like methpormin, and something to stop night time spewing of glycogen.

Maybe your cells aren’t as spunky as they once were.

So Binsk right now I am with ya, I don’t eat frankenfoods, ...but nuts.........am hungry, and craving, taking l glutamine and will see if it helps but am long stall, waffle up and own over same five lbs. for a yr now.

I tripped and fell in Bangkok and sprained shoulder and knocked two ribs outta place, hurt my neck and badly redamaged my already damaged pelvis so she demanded no exercise and I don’t dare walk as its so icy with warm weather moving in. I slip just going to my car so I try walk the stairs in the house but it knocks pelvis out so easily. Dam!!

But I plod along and wrote the Duke center to Dr Westman, he suggests really cutting portion size, sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh so will work on that, guess its time as I don’t need the fuel I once needed.I don’t working on a thrashing crew all day.LOL

Boy sass I just cant stop thinking what a bummer that is....see overnight for type ii is the worst and the most unmanageable which is why metphormin works, stops liver from spewing out glycogen while sleeping. I am thinking I will go back on it, My A1c is good, but it means all day time readings are low and my morning ones have slowly moved up a tad but I also ate more so am gonna monitor it a month and then decide.

This disease is manageable, and for a time…….. then awful ………to continue ……….and then manageable again, ………its got an ugly head …………that keeps rearing up …………and its called LIFE, and progression of the disease……. but hey ya gotta love it and gotta find a way to make it work.

Thast why we are here, we all struggle and it isnt flippin easy all the time.!!!!!!!!

That’s why depression goes hand in hand with diabetes as our systems get so deficient and not working so you can never let up, never....when I do I am punished for ages after so slowly I am learning my lesson. Intellectually I know, emotionally I know but alas my frail humanities get in my way some days.

                  I WILL SURVIVE!!!!!!
Sorry guys, but right now that’s the truth for me but I will get back on track but struggling with it for now.So lets have a whine party and Monday go back to where we were???

Canuck, you are right-some days it is the pits! I was sailing along like I had this thing by the tail and then bam! I am going to ask Dr about the tests you mentioned. I need to figure out what is happening as I am feeling really bad- tired and weak- like I did before Atkins. For a while I thought the problem was carb creep- especially while we were on vacation- I didn't watch it as closely as when we are at home- but I have been watching it very closely since we returned and my readings are still rather high. I am sorry to hear that you are struggeling too- it is hard to control diabetes when you cannot exercise. It is difficult to cut portion size- then you start that feeling deprived, and that is not a good thing. You have had some really tough luck with injuries in the past - I hope it won't take you too long to get back to feeling better. Thanks for the encouragement and keep us posted on how you are doing.
