Well, so far so good. By Saturday I should be in ketosis and I can't wait. I have been sick with nausea, etc. so not eating much has been easy. Can not wait to start losing some of this weight again.
Read your post and I will read it again for more inspiration. My blood sugar this evening was 122, so it is coming down. I am very pleased with the reading. Again, can't wait unti is normal like it used to be. Thanks again Canuck.

welcome back. Internal motivation is the only thing that will keep you on your Atkins for your BS control so go visit some elderly diabets and see what your out of control blood sugars will do to you in 10-20 yrs. if that doesn't scare you enough to stick with it think about your loved ones being deprived of you because of those diabeit complications.

For me it wasnt seeing others with complicaitons ( I saw it daily in hospitals)as our bodies are magical and help us deny, it was an internal sense of only I am responsible for every second of my life so do it and I found a system where i dont have to go hungry but for all of us its different so plod along jenny girl and it will come.At least your back here and going strong, you could be eating sweets and using denial again.i know it flippin sucks to think for rest of your life you cant eat like you used too but it sucks even more to be six feet under and thats for a long long long long time. :wave

Well, I know that I can do it, but my daughter is depressed and depression loves company and there is nothing I can do for her because she fights me a lot. She is 33. She used to laugh at me for low carbing and used to say that I was crazy about it. She loves to make me feel guilty because I can do it and she can't. But this time she is not going to win over me. I am determine to continue and she can follow or she can stay fat like she is right now. So far, so good. Doing very well. Waiting for this weekend. Will let you all now on Monday how I did.
Thanks for all your help.

Jenny, once when I said something like that about 30 yr ago someone said to me:
No one makes you feel guilty, you and only you judge yourself, if a judge and jury were going over what you just said would they say you are guilty, I doubt it, so just tie your guilt feelings up in a knot and put them under your pillow and sleep on it and in the morning they will gone . I have learned to not feel guilt.

Well, I pass the weekend. It was good and I stayed with my diet. Now starting week 2. I lost only 2 lbs, but for me that is a great accomplishment. I lose very slow and also I am very sedentary. My right knee started to act up. I have arthritis and it had never hurt, but I guess is contagious and is missbehaving now. Very painful when I get up from a sitting position and very difficult to balance myself. Once I can put weight on the leg and the knee feels strong I am ok.
My son is coming over this weekend for mother's day. He also low carbs and told me not to cook anything that was not low carb, so no problem there. I have another son that is probably way over 360 lbs. I have been after him to low carb, but to no avail. I shut up, however, he has quit drinking beer and smoking, so maybe that will come next. He is such a good kid, I hope he can find the light.
Canuck, I know what you mean. I just feel sorry for her.

CaliGal here looking for this new induction program for diabetics...I need to find it.... We are going to announce new induction program for any diabetics here who have strayed, stalled or gone off the program so that if they feel they need to redo induction we are here as a team.
This of course is not to abuse it but use it as suggested in the book by Dr A.so think about joining with us. I just need some time to develop a post to announce it and am running in my job and not much time.havnt been here much lately.
I have my first visit with a dietitian for meal planning using the ada recommended woe...I am very confused, and feel ADA guidelines allow far too many carbs...I need a plan that is easy. I am afraid of the fats allowed on atkins.
maybe the new induction program will give me a new attitude bout atkins woe.

I followed ADA guidelines and ended up weighting 310 lbs and feeling very bad. Was taking Actos, Glucophage and 50 u of Insulin. Onced I discovered Atkins, I felt great and was able to lose 70 lbs and was controlling my bs very well. Then after a year or so, I lost my job, had to go on disability and moved with my daughter. Lost my desired to keep on my diet and regained 40 lbs. Now I am back doing Atkins, but so far, I have not been able to control my bs as good as I used to, however I will not follow ADAs recomendations ever again in my life.

the program inquestion was a return to induction in Jan by several folk who had strayed was all. if you don't already own it you should get Dr Atkins diabetic book and follow the Atkins plan in it.

califgal....eating ada will kill you as diabetics dont process carbs. We do process fats!!Its BS about the good fat as look at all the new research, Do you get the diabetic newlsetter, this week scoffed the idea of low fat. Dr Atkins was just before his time is all. The art of medicine is never caught up with the science.
Eat ADA die young,
Eat Atkins or even more rigid in low carbs Dr Bernstien and live long.
Choice is yours.
I hear ya but it is your body
not the ADA to fool around with.My diabetic program from metbaolic center was 300 to 400 gr of abrs, but evne wiht 5 insulin inejctiosn a day and 4700 worth of oral meds i could never acheive a normal BG.
Within 32 hr of Atkins I HAD to stop insulin and have been drug free for 20 months.
is there something wrong with my picture or was there something wrong with metabolic centers diet for diabetics, it was just like ADA but I live in Canada so it was lower on GI scale is all.

You go girl, go in with your head up and know they will frown upon it but know you are smarter and all of us here have made a clear choice to low carb and are registering as non diabetic, or those who are still with diabetic BG’s still are better than what they were and on less meds, so just know you are ahead of your time and within five yr this will be routinely taught, they are just slow. Do you subscribe to the diabetic newsletter, it will give you lots of info and often mentions low carb and will help you to stay focused, ask away if anything comes up and look after you. We are here to offer info and support. Only you are in your body and only you can manage your diabetes. :wave

Thanks
I really do hear you...and I certainly do not doubt you...my head tells me stay low carb (not necessarily Atkins, but low carb), my ears hear diatitian tell me some carbs are needed, yada, yada, yada, etc....Yes I do get the diabetes newsletter and I have read the tips of low carb eating. Sorry, but ADA does not have a message board like this one...I get very little feedback from them...This one is the BEST...I will keep checking in on the journaling or posts that show sample meals...I am thinking: If I try Atkins again, I will start with phase 2 because when I did the phase 1 before, I had several signs of low blood sugar that scared me...so, since I already do mostly low carbs anyway, I might fare better with the next phase....we'll see.
ensive
Water and exercise must be my focus too...I am really bad about them now. I need low impact exercise I can do indoors for the days my arthritis limits my mobility...on rainy days, I am doing good just going to the mail box! I need activity I can do at home. Seems like I have a lot of goals, and each of them need to be priority to help me feel better...I will be 62 in just a few more days and I want to enjoy it instead of dread it. :icondance
