    Re: Diabetic chat

We are under tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings again tonight....it looks like the whole side of the state we live in is getting the storms. I got my new sheers up in the bedroom and bathroom today then went to the store and filled up the pantry and freezer for another 2 or hopefully 3 weeks.

Ok numbers....yesterday I was 106/105 and today I was 129 and 106. I don't know why I was high this morning....I had a small snack about a half hour before I went to bed as I usually do but it isn't that high so it's ok.

I had a romaine salad with chicken slices and creamy caesar dressing for lunch and the end of the alfredo sauce with sausage over zucchini noodles for dinner. Another delicious Atkins day!

Hope you have great weekends -- sounds like your weather is much better than here in Missouri!

      Re: Diabetic chat

Carole ~ we had a lovely thunderstorm last night, and my husband and the boys were out camping (they are boy scouts!). I stayed nice and dry in my home! I have found that sometimes my blood glucose goes up and down like that. Still I think that 129 is a good reading. Do you think that the snack could have done it? You are doing so well! Keep up the great work.

It seems quiet around here without the older boys and hubby gone, now there are only 4 kids running around! I miss them when they are gone.

Anyhoo, off to a busy weekend.

      Have a blessed weekend.

        Re: Diabetic chat

        Hi Caroline & Valarie --

The snack I had was the same thing I have every evening about a half hour to hour before I go to bed -- a string cheese so I don't think that's what made my numbers higher. I am fighting sinus problems and because of the medicine I'm taking for my toe I was told not to take anything else that had a pain releaver in it - which is what one of the ingredients in my sinus meds is. So I'm trying to get through without any. I am thinking maybe something to do with this is why my numbers were higher yesterday because they were higher this morning. I haven't eaten anything I don't normally eat and in quantities & time I normally do so it must be my system.

My numbers today were 143/94 -- see - higher this morning then yesterday. I have a headache that rivals migrane and feel achy. When I feel this way is when I normally take something for the sinus and get rid of it. I tried laying down this afternoon and when I got up my headache was a little better but the neighbor lit his charcoal a little while ago and the pounding started again. Should have had the windows closed, but it has been pretty cool today so I was airing out the house.

The worst of the storm hit about 15 miles south of us so we got rain and a little wind last night but nothing like they had. It is a little cloudy here tonight but we aren't suppose to have anything more than maybe a light rain.

Hope you're both having a good weekend. My last load of laundry is almost done and the dusting and vacuuming plus cleaning bathrooms has been done so I'm taking tomorrow off!! LOL

          Re: Diabetic chat

Well, I had the same snack again last night and my numbers are real good again this morning (114) - I am going to chalk it up to sinus problems and call it good!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. I'm going to have to mow the lawn again tomorrow, all this rain has made it grow so quickly! I just mowed on Wednesday but you'd never know to look at it now. Oh well, this is what I do all summer --- mow!!! LOL

OK - just took my blood sugar reading for the afternoon -- I'm very happy with today's numbers:

            114/101

Pork chop, fried sauerkraut, broccoli and tossed salad for dinner - YUM!

              Good morning ladies!

I hope you both had a great weekend and escaped Tornadoes, etc. It was a very hot weekend here in Virginia Beach. Saturday I cleaned house and mowed the front and back yard (that's a good work-out!) And then Sunday, I met my friend for a long walk (3 miles) She is a competitor in "Miss Fit" competitions, so she really makes sure I get a good workout.

My blood sugars were awesome all weekend! They ranged between 109 and 119.

I hope everyone is doing good day and ready for a wonderful Atkins week!!

Oh, and I weighed this morning and weighed 149!! I have not been in the 140's for about 25 years!!

              Take care,
              Valarie

Carole ~ Glad to hear that you figured out why your numbers were higher than you wanted them to be! Great numbers by the way. Isn't mowing great~ it is something that we have to do!!! If not then one would be harvesting hay!

Valerie ~ Good to hear from you. Sounds like you got a nice little work out in! LOL Congratulations on being in the 140's!!!! That is wonderful! I am not sure if you told us, but do you have a goal that you are working towards?

Hope that you all have a wonderful Monday!

                TTFN, will check back later!

                  Re: Diabetic chat

                  Hi Caroline!

Well, my original goal was 145.... but I'm only 5'2", so I have changed that goal to 130. I have gone from a size 14/16 to a size 10! And even though I like looking slimmer, my aim is to get all my blood work normal and my blood sugars in a place where I can come off the diabetic medicine. I had my blood work done a couple of weeks ago and everything looked great except for my cholesterol, which still needs to come down about 50-60 points. My A1C was 5.8% but I am still on a low dose Glumetza. I am sure that its going to take at least another 6-12 months to be where I want to be, but I will get there!! Slow and steady for me

How about you, Caroline? Do you have a goal you are working towards? What are your goals, Carole?

I actually got brave a few months ago and put my goals on Facebook. I figured that if I had them out there publicly, that it would be harder to have to tell everyone that I failed

I hope everyone is having a great day! I look forward to hearing from you!

                    Re: Diabetic chat

Hi Valarie -- my goal is to get to 140 -- I'm 5'3" and anything under 140 I look bad and feel terrible. We'll see how I feel when I get to goal as to whether I'll try to loose more or think I'm fine at that point. It's been so many years since I've been even close to 140 my body may have changed and I'll need to loose more. Also, every other time I've lost weight I've lost it quickly and then when I got there stopped and gained it all back plus a few extra.

I had cancer surgery 10 years ago to remove a tube and ovary - the day I weighed in for surgery I weighed 200 pounds. At that time it was the highest I'd ever been in my life....here I am 10 years later and are still at the same weight. I looked back at my journal this morning and I was 200 pounds last January 26 - the hubs birthday. When I stopped following Atkins a few months ago I had lost a total of 135 pounds but kept sabotaging myself and only for a few days did I get out of the 180's, then went right back into the 180's and stayed there. I don't know if I wasn't ready to loose the weight or the way I was doing it was the problem. Re-reading my journal this morning really opened my eyes to things I need to change and do better this time.

I have had 2 blood workups that my cholesterol numbers and triglicerides were good - it's a first time in 5 years the doctors haven't given me a lecture that I need to do more to help myself. I had also been diagnosed with fatty liver but that is gone now also. I'm still on metformin twice a day and probably will be for awhile longer -- I've come to grips with it and it's ok. I take Lovaza for triglicerides, Crestor and Niaspan for cholesterol and Metformin for my Type 2. Then I take a variety of vitamins for menopause and a Centrum Silver for my daily vitamin on Atkins. I hope someday I'm off everything - that would be wonderful!!

I'm on FB also -- I keep it seperate from here, if you'd like to keep in touch there PM me and I'll send you my name over there.

I really look forward to seeing what everyone has to say here everyday!! Thanks for making this easier by having some good friends to talk to!
                    Carole

                      Re: Diabetic chat

Hey everyone! Hope that you are having a wonderful day! The weather is beautiful compared to last night. That was an adventure!

I was on the treadmill, walking away, when Hannah (DD) came running down the steps " Ummm...Mom... the tornado siren has been going off, and all of a sudden it got really dark out and windy!" IYYYY

Rushed all 5 of us downstairs, and of course hubs had to be out ON the ROAD....silly man! YIKES.

No tornados though...was awfully nasty looking.

Well, as for me, my goals would be to get down to 120. I know that that seems low, but that is when I feel the best. I will see when I get down to 130, and then take that into account. My primary goal though is to get my HGB A1C much lower, and get off my medications. I have noticed that I have been having dizzy spells, and I think that it is becuase of the combination Benicar and HCTZ. I have begun to slowly wean myself off Benicar, and I am down to 5 mg a day, with bllod pressures running 90/60. She had taken me off the HCTZ, and then my legs immediately started to swell, so I was back on it again. I have started the L-Taurine and have noticed a huge difference, so I am thinking that in time, I will be able to stop those meds also. I also take Metformin 2x a day, but I have weaned myself down to 125 2x a day. Thankful for a MD who lets me do that on my own. My sugars have been running 70-80 fasting, which is fine with me, I don't have side effects when it is that low, so it seems like LC is doing its job. Crestor is also another one I take for high cholesterol...really want to get off that also.

I went to the library and checked out the Nutrient Solutions Book by Dr. Atkins, and I am going to take a read through and see. I am taking a boat load of other medications...mostly the ones recommended in his Diabetes Revolution book, and I think that has really made a difference for me. (So I won't bore you and list them all here!)

Hope that everyone is having a great day!

Carole ~ I agree it is good to hear from you all! I look forward to reading the posts.

                        Hi Everyone,
I'm on glyburide for Type 2, but when I follow Atkins my blood sugars go to low 70 and below. So I going to cut the tablet in half.
My WW goal has always been 140, but I've never been close to that. I really feel good at 170, so for now that is my goal. And then I'll go from there.
Today is day 2 of induction and I feel really good.
It's great to hear all of your stories.

                            Re: Diabetic chat

Hi Caroline & welcome back Crystal!! I went through my 2 week re-induction and am in my 1st week of Rung 1 now.

The Poditrist put me on an antiboitic yesterday to try and get the infection out of my toe - was hoping to be able to go distance walking but not yet. The toe is still too tender and has infection in it. I go back next Wednesday and if the toe isn't better she's going to numb it back up and see what is going on in the area where she removed part of the nail.

This week my numbers have really started stabilizing and I've been feeling so much better.

                            5/3 - 115/104
5/4 - 116/115 (forgot my meds until late afternoon)
                            5/5 - 119/103
                            5/6 - 115/103

I mowed the lawn today - slowly but I did get it done. The doctor told me to stop frequently and put my foot up if it started swelling. I taped it up so nothing could get into it but I tell ya, I still can't believe this all started with dropping a paving stone on my toe!

I'm taking mom to an evening of Polynesian dancing tomorrow night - our neighbor is going to be one of the dancers. Hopefully mom will feel better tomorrow than she did today - she's been in bed since dinner.

Ok, I need to check a couple things here on the board and get to bed. Take care, glad to have someone to talk to each day!!

Carole ~ It sounds like you have been through a lot lately! OUCH! I really hope that you feel better soon. That is so great that you have been able to accompish induction even while feeling under the weather! Good for you! And just think, when your toe is all healed up, and you are feeling good, walk, walk wallking...wooo hooo

As for your numbers, they are really staying quite nice, don't you think? I will be praying that you will feel better quickly. (I know that prayer isn't often pc...but I do, and I will! ) Hope that your mother feels better also. I know that there has been a flu going around, just body aches and things like that. Course it doesn't help with the weather changing all the time.

Also ~ great job on keeping the Water Challenge going! It has helped me alot to think about getting my water in daily, because sometimes I forget You know how it is when you get busy.

My weight has stalled recently...not sure what is going on. My blood sugars are doing well staying in the 70-80 range, and I have cut my Metformin into fourths...so I think that my dose is 62.5 mg twice a day. LOL It probably isn't even enough to really take, but I don't like to stop a medication all of a sudden, so I gradually taper off. Next thing is my Benicar which I think is giving me some dizzy spells.

Anyhoo ~ 'nough about me! How is everyone else doing? Valerie and Crystal????

Bye for now, have a wonderful day!

Thank you Caroline for putting me into your prayers -- I don't care with is or isn't PC....I believe in them and welcome all I can get. For every one I receive I make sure to add that person to my prayers everynight also! I'm about as anti-politically correct as you can get!!

Well, after a wonderful evening with friends and mom enjoying a Polynesian dinner/dance last night we spent 5 hours today cleaning up the yard after a large limb was damaged by the wind overnight. (Pics are posted on my journal in case you are interested - I won't re-post them here). I bandaged & taped my toe, but a sock and big shoe on, grabbed my chainsaw and started cleaning up the mess. It was good exercise but I just about cried when I saw the damage. We planted 2 small trees this year in the back yard because we only have 1 tree out there - in the corner (who would plant a tree in a corner when you need shade????) it doesn't shade the house until about 3:30 in the afternoon so we're still have shade, just less.

It's time for me to put my head on the pillow and try to get some sleep. Take care - have a wonderful Mother's Day!!
