  • Have you been able to get off meds??

Curious how many memebrs are off diabetic, blood pressure or chol meds, can you answer and then post what success you had with Atkins.

today is day 57 on atkins and I have lost a grand total of 64 pounds (which includes the 7 I regained over easter). By day 20 I had reduced my insulin intake by half I took my last shot of insulin on day 31. granted I was never a high dose insulin user on average 5 to 10 regular, 10 to 25 nph 3 to 4 times a day. But my latest round of labs received last week showed me to have a very normal A1C of 5.9 where as this time last year 9.2. Not to mention I have also dropped my total cholesterol 60% since then as well
Dr Bob was not a god whose authority should never be questioned despite what some on this board say.

I have been on Atkins for about 2 months- I've lost 32 lbs and am completely off all meds! I was taking 2000 mg of glucophage and still having readings around 200 every morning. I have not felt this good for years. I had neuropathy in my feet, which is gone now- even though Drs will tell you it is irreversible. My eyesight was blurred, and that has cleared up as well! This is the best possible way to control diabetes as far as I am concerned. I watched a diabetic man in our church lose a leg because of infection that he couldn't clear up, now this week he lost a toe on the other foot. And he also has a very bad heart- no way is that happening to me if I can do something to prevent it!

                After two weeks

Two weeks of strict induction down and I love the results. Started induction on 7-17 and stopped taking medication for diabetes and blood pressure on 7-21. This morning blood pressure was 102/58, blood sugar was 86 and I have lost 10 pounds. Blood sugar usually runs between 90 and 120.

If it is to be, it is up to me.

I was taking anti-depressants and high blood pressure medication before I started Atkins. Now all I take are vitamins, and, especially since doing the candida version, I've never felt better!

I've also lost a lot of weight!

                    Yay, Atkins!

I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2001 and my readings while on glucophage were still hoverring around the mid 100s to 200s. Stopped the glucophage on day one of induction. That was a few weeks ago. Now every morning meter reads between 100-115 and evening is 94-110. I'm impressed with how atkins has changed my glucose levels.

Kenny- you came to the right place! I was so encouraged when I saw what Atkins has done for some on this board!! I too have gotten off my diabetes meds- you will be pleasantly surprised by your lab tests as well! My HgA1C went from 7.9 on meds- to 4.1 on Atkins with no meds! Keep in touch and lets us know how you are doing- as well to encourage new people who need this program to beat the devastating effects of diabetes!
