Hi, I'm new here. I usually hang out at the century club.

I've been on Atkins for 43 days. I used to take 4 mg gluconorm before each meal. Now I take 2mg once a day in the morning. I expect to stop gluconorm in a few weeks.

That will leave Actos for my diabetes, AND
Altace, Lipitor & baby asprin to prevent heart disease

    June 14th,

I am now off gluconorm entirely and my Hemoglobin A13's have been normal for the last 6 months.

woo hoo for everybody getting healthier on Atkins. Blood sugar control is so important because while you don't see it nor feel it it happens and it is the cummulative effect of it all that causes the damage later in life.

Merry Christmas and Happy low carbing to y'all.

I just joined this board yesterday. So happy to find you here. I am Syndrome X and taking Glucophage. Current weight is 216 (down from 222) and am progressing slowly. I have been diagnosed for 6 years and pretty much went into denial; took nothing and did nothing until I developed PVD and couldn't walk 30 steps without severe pain. So I am low carbing and walking (was able to walk a mile slowly yesterday) and I am thrilled. My BP remains kinda high even though I do take my meds. If you all know of any supplements that help I would be appreciative. My early morning numbers are now under 200 (down from about a 380 average) and during the day they range from 120-165 (not bad considering the previous numbers).

I am so grateful to have found this board. I can look forward to living a bit long I believe.) I want one of those measuring sticks for the bottom of my messages.

          Luv & peace to y'all.

Re: Have you been able to get off meds??

I stopped taking my meds a week after I started Atkins.. My blood sugar used to be over 200, sometimes over 250, after I ate breakfast.. Breakfast included a Steak Egg and Cheese Bagel from McD's, w/ the hash brown and unsweet tea.. Lunch was a turkey sub and either breaded cauliflower or jalepeno poppers.. Dinner varied, but at the time my ex and I were together and we went out to eat a lot.. I look back at all the garbage I ate and just want to slap myself! My weight was out of control and my blood sugar. I wasn't taking any of it seriously. Now, after just 3 weeks on Atkins, my blood sugar is between 83 and 140 (after I eat). I'm more happy about that than fitting back into jeans! I know from experience that diabetes wreaks havoc on a lot of your body parts. My Father died of it when he was 38.. I am 28.. I realize now just how short his life was.. I don't wanna die at a young of of something so preventable..

Wow! Aquaryus, what an amazing story! I hope that by addressing your eating habits at your young age you are able to bypass your father's early passing. We want to have you around for years and years and years!

Crunchie - well, I'm not a diabetic, but my cat is. When I started Atkins and after he had a bout of a serious liver illness, I put him on gluten-free wet cat food and organic dry food. Interestingly enough, his insulin need dropped 4 units per day (5 units twice a day, now 3 units). Pretty amazing! For me, my cholesterol and blood pressure are now within the normal range. Heck yeah!

                      I wish you luck!

Re: Have you been able to get off meds??

I'm hoping next month when I go to the endiocrinologist I'll be able to get off my meds. I take glyb/metformin 5/500 twice a day and just before I go to bed I take 1 500 mg metformin. I'd like to be rid of these for good!! My 1st (and only) A1C was 10.1....my glucose readings have been hovering right around 100 (and 95 - the lowest it's ever been, this morning).

                          Good luck to everyone!!
