March Monthly Fitness Improvement Challenge

    You sure can build on the others. For upper body strength you can do weights (machines or free weights). The link I gave earlier is an excellent introduction to weights. I LOVE bodypump - a lifting class to music that pushes you so you don't have to .

    To improve with abs, to to some extent pushups, you need to do those actual exercises. There are lots of different abs you can do, aside from crunches, situps and varients on these, check these out: http://exercise.about.com/od/abs/ss/abexercises.htm

      Okay - either I REALLY like you Alexa - or I really HATE myself, but I can't have you do all 5 of the fitness improvement challenges by yourself -- so even though I probably am in need of a straight jacket and will really despise myself - I am going to commit to all five -- within reason of course

      Step Test: 99bpm (good -- for my age group)
      Squats: 45 - Excellent
      Push Ups - MODIFIED TO CRUNCHES: 33 - good
      Push Ups - 9 poor
      12 minute run test - MODIFIED to fast walking: .60 miles/965.6064 meters - there wasn't anything lower than poor so beyone POOR!

      Okay, now I am going to crawl away and let my poor body die in peace (Shoot - just realized I better sign up for the push up challenge)

          Sorry for my late post.. I am in for the following tests.. (along with my baseline readings for March)..

          1) Step test: 122 (Poor)
          3) Situps: 43 (Excellent)
          4) Pushups: 25 (Above Average)
          Start Date: 11/13/2007
          Start Pants Size: 46
          Height: 6' 1"

          Start Weight: 285lbs
          Goal: 200lbs <-- Met 6/15/2009
          :
          Starting a new "100-lb Loss" goal on 10/1/2009...
          Mini Goal-1: 196lbs <-- Met 10/21/09
          Mini Goal-2: 192lbs <-- In Progress...
          Mini Goal-3: 188lbs <-- In Progress...
          MAIN Goal : 185lbs <-- In Progress...

          Current Weight: 195 ... Current Pants Size: 36

            My arms hurt, my tummy hurts, my sides and my thighs ache, not to mention the booty. The muscles in my shins are making it hard for me to walk unless I stop to stretch them every few minutes... I didn't know there were even muscles in your shins???? I can feel every inch of my body when I move and I LOVE IT! This was me at the gym . Add some free weights and man do I feel it along my sides, hoping it will improve my sit ups.. Hope everyone is working hard..... have a wonderful night.... after you do some push ups of course

              I'm pretty darn likeable

              Thanks for getting these in, well done with the squats.

              If you want more reachable goals and ease of ribbon winning you can design your own goal, so 0.70 miles walking next time, until you get into the chart numbers, etc.

                              Thanks you guys! The trouble with me is - when I'm ill I find it very hard not to cheat, and this time I haven't managed it. So am feeling bigger again and bloated, and headachey and my teeth hurt.

                              Need to sort myself out!

                                Sounds like the flu - best thing you can do for yourself is rest

                                Well I have made one of my goals and have managed to do 15 push-ups all at one time without arms giving out.

                                So tomorrow I will get back on the treadmill to see if I can improve there as well - pretty close to my mileage challenge I can afford to step away for the pedaling.
