Re: Lord of the Rings Challenge - Calling all fans

cleye, I used to own a set of the books that explained the whole elvish alphabelt and the history and everything, unfortunately those books were destroyed in a water accident on vacation (cooler leaked) and I haven't been able to find those editions anywhere.

    eclectikat, welcome to the journey!

I've finished another two and have miles and am now on the Stock Road. I don't know when I'll be able to continue the journey, as tomorrow is a full day and the week-end looks about the same. Welcome, eclectikat. The more the "Merrier"

Re: Lord of the Rings Challenge - Calling all fans

Thanks for the welcome folks. I like writing, you will see that over time. SO I want to tell a short story which seems fitting for this forum.

I live in rural south western Ontario Canada. I am fortunate enough to have bought a tiny house in the country and am so happy where I am.

I live on a paved highway which is too busy to walk on, and a gravel road at the top of a BIG hill. I have always driven to where I wanted to walk, until Saturday. I came home from work and for some reason I decided to take the challenge of the big hill. Part of the reason I ventured down the hill was that at the bottom of the hill is an old railroad line which is now a trail primarily used for snowmobiles in the winter. I have been intending to walk this path for years now.
I did on Saturday. It was fabulous. I is private and lush and quiet. Around every bend there was some other marvelous thing to see and think about. There is even a hidden pond which I may use as a private skinny dipping spot. I was upest when I came home because I have been here for 5.5 years and it took me that long to find a private piece of heaven less than 500 meters from my door. ALL BECAUSE OF A HUGE HILL....
I got over it when I found this forum, because that path will be a part of the walk I do with Sam and Froto... I am happy to have a fresh track of land to walk as I imagine the journey taken by these two.

        THANKS ALL!!

2.5 miles of 470 miles... its hard to keep up to these two!

Well I didn't have much time today but I was able to jump on the treadmill for about 15 minutes today, I was able to run almost a half a mile. I know it's not much but running is a huge thing for me. I never run but I did today. Every little bit counts right?

Way to go, IrishMom82! Every step counts in the big picture!! It was in the fifties today and finally stopped raining. I grabbed my walking staff and headed out to log some miles. The wind was out of the northwest and is still carrying a bit of winter's icy coldness, so I wrapped my cloak tighter and headed off. I managed two miles before I got too cold and finished the last mile on the treadmill. I definately enjoy walking outdoors more. The area where I live could be compared to the plains of Rohan. The only place you see trees are around people's homes. I was raised north of here where there were bogs, swamps, rivers, lakes and huge trees. I miss the trees. I just seem to be able to breath better when I'm around them. We've put in over a hundred around our home and continue to keep planting more every year. I wish I had a pair of those leathery Hobbit feet. I have a huge blister on one foot. I wouldn't even mind all the hair. Keep walking!!!

Re: Lord of the Rings Challenge - Calling all fans

I finished another three and a half miles today. It was just gorgeous out. There was a light breeze, bright sun, a few high wispy clouds and the faint smell of wood smoke on the air. I've gone 18 miles!! The Hobbits did it in one day and it feels like I've been walking forever! Only 440 more miles before I reach Rivendell. I'll certainly be able to sleep well tonight. I don't think any fox would see me, but a few coyotes might. It looks like a long segment comes up next. This could take a few days. Good work everyone!

It was another beautiful day on Monday so I walked three miles after work. Yesterday it stormed and rained all day so I didn't get out at all. The rain will put Farmer Maggot behind in his field work. The wheat is in and he's started on planting corn. It was sunny today and started to dry things out. I'm sure he'll be back in the field tomorrow. I walked another three miles after work today. The Stock Road sure is long. How's everyone else doing?

Well I didn't get a walk in today but I've walked far enough that I can no longer see Hobbiton because of the rising and falling slopes
I was able to get a very vigorious 2 mile walk in yesterday, my cheeks got sunburnt from the sun. I have a four day weekend so I'm hopeing to walk about 8 miles over the weekend.

Way to go, IrishMom82!! Isn't it great to be outside walking. The treadmill is OK, but nothing is better than nature. Have a wonderful four day week-end. I'd sure like one of those, but I can't see one happening in my near future.
