I started to think that maybe I had bitten off more than I could chew. I told my husband I was tired of walking up and down the road by our place and would rather walk in a circle. Wonderful man that he is, he got out his GPS and plotted out a four and a half mile walk that would keep me and my trusty dog away from other farm dogs and keep us walking in a circle. (Now if it could have just kept the dog away from skunks! Phew!) I cut across country following the railroad tracks for about a mile of the way and the rest is country roads and ditches. It takes me a little over an hour and an half, so I've been getting up early on the week-ends before it gets too hot and walk the path set out for me. I am now at the 113 1/2 mile mark. I'm in the Barrow-downs. I have a mile and a half to go to finish day 6. It has been so hot and humid here that if I can't walk before nine in the morning, it's almost impossible to get outside. No excuses!!!! I am going to reach Bree by this time next week!! I've talked the talk and now it's time to walk the walk. Keep in touch!!
    Hey there, cleye!

Three months for a three-day walk... Just remember, the hobbits didn't have jobs and family and everything else to deal with! They just packed up and left! LOL! With my legs, knees and feet, it'll take me three years to get to Bree. HA!

Your husband did a nice thing for you! And truth be known, hikes across uneven land is really good for the feet. Use muscles and joints that normally don't get much use over continued flat surfaces. No wonder these hobbits were so sturdy...

I've been considering how to track all this and kind of getting ready for it. Just have some other priorities distracting me at the moment. But this'll be fun just as a side amusement. Anytime I walk, ride bike, or kayak, those miles can go into one of the catagories.

So let's see, walking will of course follow Frodo from the Shire. Biking will follow... hmmm, choices here. I considered Gandalf on Shadowfax, but you know, only seems appropriate to start from Edoras and head to Minas Tirith. Follow Gandalf later (HA!) And kayaking will begin at Loth Lorien and end up at the falls (unless I follow the slain Boromir over the falls. BWAAH!!)

(Yes, I'm laughing here! This is amusing as any LOTR geek would know... Oh, except for Tom Bombadil... never could stand that character... )

Well, it took me longer than I predicted, but I am finally in Bree!!! Yeah!!! I think I'll just kick back and have a pint or two before continuing. Now where has that Frodo disappeared to?

Is there such a game as Follow Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) to the Ends of the Earth? I'd totally play that! I'd chase him full throttle, you betcha

Welcome Kagi!! The journey starts with the first step. I just finished mile number 165. The next few days of the journey are pretty boring, but I'll just keep plodding away. It's been quite the challenge and after some discouragement, I'm back on track and headed for Rivendell. See you there!!!

165! Well, that will take some catching up... or a little help from Gandalf! Seeing as how he is a little busy, I guess I'll just use my own feets! I'm going to catch you before we get there!

Hey everyone, welcome all you newbies! I'm still here cleye! I promise. I've completely lost track of how much I've walked. I know it's a lot. I'll need to re-do my math and whatnot...

OK, I'm in Bywater, having a low carb pint of ale, made from cauliflower. It's not too tasty, but I'm here!

Way to go, Kagi!! Welcome back, IrishMom! I know how difficult it can be to set aside enough time to do the walking when you have little ones. Sometimes there are not enough hours in a day to get all the things done that need to be done. I've been sidetracked the last couple of days, so haven't gotten my usual walk in. Will do better over the long week-end. I've been walking a new path that is six miles. One of the neighbors said he saw a coyote at the end of his driveway (I walk right past there) and he said it was bigger than my 95 pound yellow lab!!! Now, that's making me a little nervous. Maybe a handgun. . . .hmmm?
