        Welcome Lindyj - good to have you with us Be careful with your knees and stop if it hurts. Make sure you never squat so low that your thigh dips lower than your knee - keep it level at the lowest point.

        Question for everyone: Do you vary the kind of squats you do? I have been hearing recently that muscles can get used to doing the same old thing, so consider some of these variants to spice it up:

        - Speeding up/slowing down is a good way to feel the burn. Go down for a slow count of 5, stay for 2 and rise up for 5. Do 5 or 10 or these and then alternate with fast squats - ouch! But for a good cause

        - At kickboxing the other day we did squats with kicks. So squat down and as you come up kick your foot forward (front kick) to whatever height is comfy, but a challenge. Alternate legs for kicking.

        - Another kickboxing idea - squat down and jump as you come up. These are hard, but work great! Sorta jump out of the squat and as you land go down into the next one.

        - Using handweights is a good way to feel it more. Remember to keep you back as straight as possible.

        Any other ideas?
