I'll do this! There's a lake near my house that's exactly 3.1 from parking space, around the lake, and back to parking space.

      Re: Walk/Run/Wog for the Ta-Ta's May 9th

      Good morning!!

I just want to thank you again for joining me on this great day for Walking for a Cure (it's actually called the Race for the Cure...but I'm walking! lol)....no matter what the weather is in your neck of the woods.

The sun is shinning and I'm dressed for the race...in layers. My good friend is waiting for me to pick her and her three kids up to head over to the race. It should be a fantastic morning weather wise. Her friend the marathon runner bowed out at the last minute claiming she was worn from life and her recent run in San Fran, Ca....okay, she gets a pass to just stay home this time. So there will be five of us among the 14,000 people signed up. It should be a wild event with the masses.

I can't wait to check back here this evening to see how everyone did. It's a busy day for my family after the race, spring fair and a graduation party, but I'll be taking my camera to share some of the events.

Thank you again for taking time out of your day to exercise and walking for a cure. I'll be thinking of each of you as I walk today.

i wasn't signed up for your race for a cure but make that 14,001, lisa

i went this morning to the boardwalk park and got my 5K done. i was there alone most of the time and i took advantage of that by spending some much needed time in prayer. i expect to hear good news from everyone because i prayed for it!

I just finished my 5K! It is so much nicer walking it than running it (like I had to do in the Kinderhook 5K last year). Just keep on moving for a cause everybody!

Liv reporting in. Finished my 5 K. I was thinking about all of you doing it and Lisa running with 14000. It was a nice run. On the cold side with around 0C (32F). But great for running. I was also thinking about my mom. And it was good having that quiet time contemplating. Good luck everyone. Congratulations Jimmy Jo and Ashley.

Just getting in. OMG! It was such a beautiful 5k walk. 76 degrees out and gorgeous! I kept all of you in my thoughts and prayers as well. It was amazing to be a part of all of you today. It was like I was right there with you. Sierra bailed on us, but DH and I had a lovely time together. The lake was full to the brim and so pretty.
Thanks for inviting us to come along with you Lisa. I believe this kicked off my hiking season. I feel great!

                Re: Walk/Run/Wog for the Ta-Ta's May 9th

I did it -- I was by muself at the park but I had a pink top on and saw 5 ladies on the track (also in pink) so we walked together. They were doing a 5K walk for their work and were nice enough to let me tag along. I was telling them about the "wog" and we decided to do more "wogging" the last half mile than just walking.

It's the first time I've ever done anything like that -- thank you for the idea!

Lisa it's with a heavy heart that I report I did not walk today. I re-injured my neck on Thursday & am quite miserable. I was with you all in spirit though & cheering you all on!

                    Happy Mother's Day!!!

Thank you all so very much for taking the time out of your day to participate one way or another, walking, jogging, wogging, praying, yesterday. It means so much to me to hear how you enjoyed your day. I thought of each of you while I walked in the sunshine. There were moments I had to dry my eyes remembering you suvivors when I saw someone wearing a pink race number...they were suvivors, too.

I'll post pictures in just a minute.

I am so happy to report that the Race for the Cure was exceptionally successful in so many ways!

They counted over 15,000 people signed up for the walk, and it looked like 15,000 people there, too. Thank you for adding to the numbers here, too!

This race raced over $200,000 for the cure.

The weather was just incredible. We couldn't ask for better weather and atmosphere. With 15,000 people gathered together, one would imagine the worst of crankiness would show...but there was nothing. People were polite, giving, helpful, and so thoughtful...especially when we were elbow to elbow herding like turtles to the starting line. Even when we had to make a pit stop to use the restroom at the Golds Gym 1/2 through, people were really nice. I have to give props to Golds Gym for opening up their facilities for all of us. Bladders every where were thankful!

We got there just in time to find a decent parking space and kissed the ground when we did after two nearly collisions between me and two other cars jocking for inches to just drive on the beltway. Shessh...people were driving like they were from Portland! I just had to pretend I was in NASCAR and do my own fancy driving to score the parking spot that I did.

There was jazzersize in the beginning with instructions on where to start the race...both we ended up just trying to see and hear from a far off distance. We ended up following a herd to what we thought was the beginging of the 5k line, since there was also a 1 mile line (which we didn't want to get tangled into). We all sang the Star Spangled Banner, and I swore I heard a few people sing out "Play ball!" right afterwards.

Along the way there was entertainment galore. People in costumes for their teams, guys wearing pink from head to toe, dogs wearing costumes, bands playing music, water stops, cheerleaders, etc. It was really something.

I'm certain that your 5k was probably a lot faster than ours. We made it across the finish line a little over an an hour and twenty-three minutes...I snapped the picture a couple of minutes before we actually crossed. But like the beginning of the race, we were herded turtles getting through the finish line. During the race we took our time to walk with the herds and then sprinted when we could to get to open spaces, while dodging strollers, wheelchairs, dogs, small kids, and gals hulahooping.

After we crawled back to the car and dug out our lunch to eat on the way, we decided that we would form a team next year...and I suggested we wear tutu's like one group we saw. Although I got out voted by the two boys in our group, they said they would consider that option if and ONLY if we raised over $1,000. I said DEAL! So, we'll do it again next year!

I sit here this morning thankful and prayerful for all those that I was blessed seeing yesterday. It's truly a different Mother's Day for me. Thank you for being a wonderful part of this weekend!

                    ~Lisa

                    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jimmiejo...thank you for taking the time to walk and pray. You're prayers are certainly heard! I did a lot of that while walking...especially seeing kids and husbands with signs of "In memory of my mom", "In celebration of my mom", "In memory of my wife", and "In celebration of my wife". It was so moving.

Ashleye233...thank you for moving for a cause!

liv...golly, thanks for braving the weather...and taking the time. I'm so glad you had time to think of your mom.

Sherri...we must have shared the same weather...it was beautiful here as well. Thanks for helping kick off this great start!

imagood1...thank you for stepping out in faith and doing the wogging...especially meeting up with others!

OzLover...thank you for taking the time to pray and think of us walking! I hope your injury heals...you need to take care of yourself!

Race for the Cure, Boise, Idaho

Radio Personalities Margo and Tom (Margo's in the pink hat and cancer survivor herself)

A portion of the 15,000 around us waiting for the start...

And we're off!! Herding like turtles to the start line (the balloons). A comment overheard by one fellow turtle at 9:18 when the race actually started, "Do you think we'll reach the balloons by 2 o'clock?"

Talk about some great exercise and coordination!

Here's the inspritation for a team costume next year...

Kids, moms, dads, grandma's, and dogs walking for a cure....

Proof that we made it to the finish line...even though we still had to wait to cross the finish line with the rest of the turtles....

Me and my good friend...she's a better morning person than I, then again, she's the one who carried her coffee mug with her the whole 3 miles.

                      Good times!

Jimmiejo....I'm already checking out how to make the tu tu's because I so want to see these boys wearing them. It'll be a great time next year. I already met up with 10 other people since Saturday's race who demand that I remind them about the event and we'll form a team. I told them that I'll send a reminder once a month if they promise to help raise the funds so I can get the boys to wear tu tu's. We'll see.
