  • Did I just waste my money? (slightly personal, sortof)

OK I just went out and bought some running clothes.

I bought new body armour compression shorts. The ones I was wearing were kindof cheap and the body armour has smoother seams and a better feel. My old ones were starting to pill, which I won't even begin to say what happens on the chafing front.

I also bought two high tech tops (one short sleeve, one sleeveless) which I'm hoping will help a minor issue I've been having. I read this morning somewhere else that a regular cotton t-shirt can cause chest chafing (read nipples) on men (because we're not wearing a sports-bra, which maybe I need, LOL) during longer runs. Light dawned on marble head when I made the connection. After my runs recently I complained to my wife that my nipples were killing me. When I read that this morning I made the connection. I'm hoping that the new tops will make a difference.

Money wise the running tops weren't much more than a regular top (name branded that is), but the body armour compression shorts were a bit pricey.

Anyone else use high tech stuff or just regular t-shirts and shorts?
    Jim

    Hi Jim,

My Other Half was given this t-shirt made of some sort of polyester or something, and the material was really really smooth. Used mainly by cyclists, but he uses it when he goes jogging because the material has very fine holes in it and breathes better than his usual t-shirts. PLUS he says they are really soft on the skin.

So my answer is, if all this "high tech stuff" is helping you, and makes your exercising more comfortable, then why not?

Besides, he has these really cool running/bike shorts, and looks really sexy in it, so I'm assuming your butt will look cute in your shorts too! LOL

I actually haven't tried them yet, I just bought them during lunch.

Tomorrow morning when I do a 5 mile run, I'll see. I was just curious how other people felt about them. I see runners wearing the stuff all the time, but just because everyone is using something doesn't mean that the actual product is doing anything different.

I *love* the technical running tops - I sweat like a pig and overheat terribly if I'm not careful and the tech-tops really help to wick the moisture away. They also stay lighter - the cotton ones end up really soggy and heavy after a good run. Can't advise on the rubbing as I stay permanently wrapped in a sports bra.

As for the shorts - you'll just have to post a piccie of you in them and all us girls will tell you if they're worth it :yikes :wave

Pretty much all my running clothes are made from 'Cool Max' fabrics. I do find that it makes a difference wicking away sweat. I've noticed though that prices have really come down on that stuff. Costco has some great Cool Max athletic wear and running socks for great prices. I did invest in more expensive bike shorts. I had some cheaper ones and man, the new ones make all the difference. Probably the most costly thing for me are my running shoes...no wait...the damn orthotics that I have to wear in 'em!

            Sore Nips !!

My husband prevents the sore nipples by sticking a bit of surgical tape / micropore over them ....

So at least I'm not the only one with the nipple issue. ROTFLMAO at the cartoon, thanks. (It's not good to laugh out loud at work, people look at you funny)

As far as pics of me in the compression shorts...hhhmmmmmm....maybe not. It wouldn't be a pretty sight. Maybe in about another 60-85 pounds. But not just yet.

Besides I'm shy. It took every ounce of courage just to post my horrible before shirtless pics. Plus the new shorts are white and I think we all saw Labarum's post about shorts colors, need I say more? I think not.

Aww - only teasing, Jim! :nod

I'm just the same - you'll notice the full length tracksuit trousers in *my* pic. I'm going to train as hard as I can and aim to be brave enough by the end of the summer to post a piccie of me in my super-stretch lycra shorts.

You do have to be really careful with photos of stretchy shorts.

You wouldn't want to post something like this:-

That pic is exactly why I wouldn't post a pic of me in the shorts. Maybe from the back? We'll see.

BTW, my husband has several Under Armour things, for skiing and for bikeriding. He loves them. He also loves the compression shorts, uses those for Karate. So I think it's money well-spent--you'll look good, and feel good, too!

Almost all my workout stuff is non-cotton.
For underwear tho I have Jockey midway "sport" briefs with Lycra...haven't chafed in a long time.
I get the nipple issue from time to time...it really depends.
Seems like the sweatier I get the more it gets irritated.

I just bought a pair of Nike running shorts from Macy's that have a built-in liner (no underwear required) and they are amazing.
They got soaking wet during an hour+ run the other day and stayed light & comfortable. I think I'm going to invest in more of them. :icondance
