Hi All, I didn't make it out this morning. It is the first time in three weeks and I feel a bit guilty/ depressed?. I know I need the break I have had this bug since Sunday and the pain in my throat only disipates after I take my triple threat of tylenol cold, advil and cloroceptic. My left ear is completly stopped up. ARGG!!! Not to mention my little ones are coughing to beat the band and I am taking care of them. I am tired and sick darn it, so why do I feel guilty that I didn't go out and up my already elevated temp with a run?--- Ok vent over. I will probably not be recovered tomorrow, but I will most likely run anyway to avoid this feeling of guilt.

Hi all.
AphexPhode-- Come on in, there is no secret handshake or anything, I checked.
Ok so I did feel a bit better this morning. I ran two miles and walked one instead of my scheduled three and one. I feel pretty good now. At least I won't have to deal with guilt today. My times are still pretty much consistent 10-11 min per mile. Have a great weekend everyone. I hope you are feeling better Betty. Effie are you up to 4 yet? How was your swim Diana? Ester, I am sorry today is not the big day--Awaiting to hear about the events leading to the big day.

I talked my husband into doing the Couch to 5K program on Coolrunnings.com so we're starting this evening. We're both about 100 pounds overweight, but we're relatively young, and we're gonna do this. It might take us a little longer to be able to run the 5K but I'm commited to sticking with this.
Thanks for letting me be a part of this!

Geez Betty if I could I'd send a few pounds your way from my body. How about 20 or 30?
I went out running on Wednesday, a 3 mile loop in 35 minutes. But then I couldn't get on this site to say howdy to you all.
Thursday I rested.
Today I went running for 65 minutes. It was an awful run, 98% humidity and my darn HRM kept beeping at me. I felt awful too. I did a new loop through the neighborhood, and while my HRM measured 2 miles '
urplequ:' I know it was between 5 and 6miles. I'm going to go over it today with the car.
I tried to carry my camelback-hip-pack with 36 ounces of water but I did not like the added weight. I shared that with DH when I returned and he said; oh, it only weighs a few pounds, not much. Well, it felt like a TON.
Thanks for all the ideas for DS and keeping him runnning. I'll look into fun runs for him. But since we homeschool, and the local school district is anti-hs'ing and won't permit any interaction between hs'ers and ps'ers joining the local school team is out.

You're so generous to offer, but no thanks........ :nono I just need to eat a bit more and drink ALOT more to get my hydration back up to speed.Geez Betty if I could I'd send a few pounds your way from my body. How about 20 or 30?
Girlie, in 98% humidity, your HR is always gonna be high. Gotta factor that in .. you might want to adjust your HRM for the humid months by increasing your maximum HR setting. I have to allow for that because its ALWAYS humid here, brutally so from May to Sept ... and yes, carrying ANYTHING, water or not, will seem like a ton cuz of that thick air!! Believe me, I know what you're talking about!!
Make sure you are well hydrated before running in that humidity, even if the temps are relatively cool, its the humidity that takes the toll.
You did great, sweetie!!

Been out of action for a few days with a combination of TOM, some kind of bug, the genearal pre-wedding and pre-emigrating chaos, and my son having his first major asthma attack. He's had mild asthma for years but this was the first time it got frightening. It kind of leaves you tired when you keep waking up every half hour to see if your kid is still breathing...
Anyway, today we managed to walk half a mile each way to the park and he played on all the new climbing stuff while I waddled around the playing field a coupla times. I also finally plucked up the courage to go to the gym and book in an induction course to use all those machines! I'm going to treat myself to a multi-gym after we move :yes
AphexPhode - welcome to the board! Don't worry how long it takes you finish the couch to 5k - it took me over 8 months! I got there in the end, though... Just keep repeating any weeks that feel hard until you feel ready to move on.Started lowcarb February 2, 2004
Start weight 300lb, current 184lb, goal 160lb

Welcome Aphex! I started out with the Couch to 5K program too. I think you'll really like it and be amazed at how well your body adapts. Just like it was suggested to repeat weeks if you're not ready to move on, it's just as important to not skip weeks and follow the program. You will build endurance and avoid injury this way. I know it's hard sometimes, especially if you're like me!

HMMM, my body is sooo weird I am up 4 pounds what the Heck. I'm not sure what to think of this and it makes me mad but, I have upped my exercise and I am sore so I am really praying that this is from the increase. I hate how my weight fluctuates so much it's rediculous. I am going to drinnk a pile of water today and see how it goes.
Oh, I jogged for 30 minutes yesterday now up to what I did before but, I was increasing to fast so I am staying at 30 minutes for the next 2 weeks and go up 10% after that. I don't want to end up falling back again so I'll take it easier. Although it's not easy LOL.

Lord have mercy, no hurricanes this year, PLEASE.... Last year was enough for many years!Originally posted by AphexPhodeWe sure are Betty! Are you all ready for hurricane season? :wave
I have a sis-in-law in Clearwater, and friends in Tampa. My hubby and I are from Michigan, but we're going on our 9th month as Floridians. I love living so close to the Gulf.
Welcome to Florida! We moved here in 1999 from Nebraska (fleeing the winters!) and have never looked back (okay, maybe a second or two last hurricane season, but that was temporary insanity)... :guns Actually, it would take a cannon to blast me away from here. We love everything about Florida, hurricanes or not! Beats the stuffing out of cold, snow, ice and long miserable winters. NO MORE OF THAT!
Hope to meet you sometime!
PS .. have you gone hunting for sharks teeth yet? Venice is the place!
We've found lots of 'em there!

In the 9 months we've been here, my husband has filled a mason jar with sharks teeth. When his nieces came to visit, he gave most of them to the girls. They were so thrilled. We find sand dollars too. I'd rather lay on the beach, or swim than dig in the sand too much, but my husband is an expert digger. :yes
I told him I wanted to get a metal detector so I could find real "treasures" in the sand.
