Did my last training run before the big race. I had to walk three times (50yds, 25 yds, and 50 yds). I just couldn't catch my breath it was 90 degress and humid as anything. I had a slow time (50:33) but I have all my excuses ready.
1.It was an end of day run.
2. I had barely anything to eat today
3. hot & humid
But those are just excuses.
If I could do the distance in todays heat I'll be fine Sunday morning. And I needed to find that out.Jim

Yes I'm eating a smore in the picture, how do you think I got so fat?

This one is not an excuse. Just look at the posts between Betty and me about running in the heat and humidity. It is a real thing and humidity makes the air thicker, harder to run through, harder on your heart too.Originally posted by jroche5998I just couldn't catch my breath it was 90 degress and humid as anything. Best of luck on Sunday.

Absolutely, its the humidity. I'm pretty well conditioned for it here, since I've been running for 19 months, but there are days I think my shoes are made of lead! :nod Faster heart rate, and just struggling.
Today was one of those days, but then, I am still recovering from the flu earlier in the week when I didn't eat or drink for 2 days. Its weeks like this I have to remind myself that its OK to run less miles ... although my brain keeps telling me I've been slacking!! But seriously, when you have been sick, you simply MUST give yourself time to recover.
When the weather is hot and humid, you're NOT going to be as fast as you are when its cool. No...ain't gonna happen. Just plan on it. If I tried to go as fast in July as I go in February battling this heat and humidity, I would die of heat stroke!

BUT, even with the walking and the heat, I still had my 5th best time, and only 4 minutes off mybest pace.Jim

I ran for the 4th time this week
I did my usual 3 loops around the park, total time 28:48. Second fastest time. Then I walked around the first loop (the park is like a figure 8 ) to cool down, so I guess I'm starting to ween myself on to 4 loops. I figure since this is still my first week, I don't have to push it just yet
Jim, good luck on Sunday!!!! :icondance

Wow, people here are rockin'!
I was up at 6:00 am to run this morning and man am I glad I did. It was already 80 degrees out and steamy humid. The air was thick. I was worried that my asthma might be triggered, but it was alright. I'm really loving running outside even with all these hills. Honestly, there isn't one flat stretch. I so like the downs! I've mentioned before that I live out in the country in a geographic area known as the Oak Ridges Moraine (hence all the steep hills). Despite being in the middle of freak heat wave, it was sooo beautiful this morning. All the lilacs are in bloom and the road I run is lined with huge old bushes. Lots of other trees are in bloom too and the air smelled almost sickly sweet. I was about five minutes into my run when this fox bolted across the road in front of me. Then a little further down a scared a doe with two fawns. Then just beyond them there was a HUGE snapping turtle laying her eggs in the gravel right beside the road. (I so hope she doesn't get hit). The mosquitos were a little bit better this morning I think because it was already so hot. They're certainly worse on the return run which is all uphill and I'm sure I'm attracting them more with the increase sweat! I'm so glad I can run outside. The treadmill will be for nasty weather only!
I might go for a swim this afternoon...then again, I might not! Have a great day everyone.

Hey Isabeau, I was right there with you at 6am just separated by a thousand miles or so. And man was it already steamy.
I was going to do a long one but at 4 miles my legs started cramping up so I headed back home. I was out for 45 minutes. That makes 5 running days this week ':nod' which is one more than my typical 4 or even 3 days of a few months ago.
