Re: Cool Running for the week of July 24th

The RICE method works the best for pain and soreness .. rest, ice, compression, elevation .. let your body recover between runs and you'll be much happier (and in less pain...) After my long runs, sometimes, I just hop in the bathtub and get into some cool water which helps take down the post-run inflammation ..

If you can, avoid running on concrete .. its the absolute WORST on the joints and your shoes will wear out alot sooner ...

    Rest up!

Another slow 5.5 miles today. It was really nice out, a great deal of cool wind. I really thought it was going to rain on me, but no such luck. If my pattern holds I should be a bit quicker tomorrow. We will see. Have a great run today everyone!!!

It seems like everone is having a hard time this week. Everyone up off your chairs right now and do a little rain dance!!! But seriously, that is what seperates the "can do s" from the "can't s". The "can do s" keep going even when it is not easy. Way to go "can doers" I am proud to have such a group as friends!

Sarah what are we going to do with you girl? I think we should take a collection for a bubble for you. You can be the worlds first bubble marathon women. I am so sorry you keep getting knocked back with health issues, but I have to say your spirit is amazing and when other people would find it as an excuse to quit altogether, it pushes you further when you are well. I am proud of you my friend!!

Another 5.5 today and yes it was faster <50 min. I am having some issue with chafing tho and I am going to go to an athletic store this weekend to get some new shorts/bras, chafing powder(?) . Any suggestions would be great.

                See you all tomorrow.

Re: Cool Running for the week of July 24th

Oy, Sarah, I TOTALLY know what you're going through. The reason I quit running during high school was because I had such bad asthma, and it sucks. Do you have an inhaler? An inhaler and the pill Singulair have revolutionized my asthma. The pill you take once a day (at night) and the inhaler once a day and I swear running doesn't bother me any more. And that's saying something in this heat!

Of course, that's all for later, when you feel better. Right now just concentrate on *resting*! If you don't take care of your lungs and let them heal completely you'll just end up on the never-ending cycle of infections. I should know.

                  Hang in there, Sweetie!

Re: Cool Running for the week of July 24th

We had a lovely storm last night which cooled things off immensely. I did 3 miles this morning and chopped 7:37 off my time from 2 days ago. I'll have to look back to see what my previous times were, but today was 34:08 for 3 miles. (Edited to add: This is a new PR. Last week my time was 36:04, so that's almost 2 minutes off my previous PR. YAY! )

Sarah - get well soon. We all want to see you tear up the pavement!

for Sarah and a prayer for a speedy recovery and for the black cloud of sickness to stay away from your house!

I did my HIIT elliptical training Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and got my heart rate up to 169 - Tuesday I worked out with my trainer as well. Now I'm on an unscheduled rest day due to that rotten TOM coming to visit two days early! He's such a nuisance, just showing up whenever he feels like it, ruining my day!

I don't get it sorry for that.

So Any how I am feeling better on some really huge antibiotics buit, feeling better, I ahve to take my ton of meds it;'s rediculous but, if it makes me feel better whay not right.

Sarah Get well soon! I know nothing will stop you from success, not even being sick! You're total inspiration!! Let your body get well and stay well! You take care, you hear??

I did 8 miles today on the trail with DH riding behind me on the bike. We both took today and tomorrow off work, but of course, no off day from running! It was hot ... whew .. but the strong survive! I burned 770 calories, 20% fat. Kewl! Took me about 2 hours to run the 8 miles, including water stops & potty break at McDonalds along the way .. (gad the smell of those greasy fries ... blech!) To think I used to eat that !!

No run tomorrow .. off day, but Saturday is my long run day which means 10-13 miles .. we'll see how early I can get out there and hopefully beat the heat!

Whew you are brave Betty, Mc'ds for a potty break. I am amazed the grease in the air didn't make you pass out!!!!

Another 5.5 miles today and in under 50 min again. All right, all right, all right!!! That makes 30 miles for the week.
Rest tomorrow, then 8 miles on Sunday.

Please send your good vibes out that I lose tomorrow when I weigh. I am not running 30 miles a week and passing up the cake and potatoes for my scale to continue climbing. (3.5lbs in the last 3 weeks) I know this works, I know I have to be patient, my scale is just teasing me at the gates of 150 land!!!
Also should I change my ticker to reflect the gain? I should huh? ARGGG!!!!

Thanks for reading my rant. We all have days like these, right?

                            I you guys.

Sarah, I'm sending good thoughts your way. Something about hearing about others asthma or lung problems kicks me into full empathy mode! :iconhug

Yesterday was supposed to be my rest day, but I went out and ran 1.5 miles because the weather was too nice to pass up! I've found that if I ice my hip right after I come in it doesn't hurt the next day, so I'm feeling much better about it!

I'm off to the beach tomorrow for a week of fun in the sun (or under the umbrella *g* ) but I'm hoping to get my runs in on the beach anyway. Also, my sister and brother in law and I rented a condo so we'll have a kitchen, and that should definitely help with my food. I am not a saint or anything, but I don't take vacation as a time to go hog wild with eating. For one thing, it takes too long to re-lose the weight, and for another I'm surprised to find that what I eat now is not a "diet" for me, but just ... the way I eat. So good to know! I will be laying off some of the yogurt because I think that's making me stall just a bit, and I have 6 more pounds until I'm in Onederland! Woo!
