  • Cool Running for the week of July 24th

Good Morning everyone!!! I did it I did 8 miles in 1hr 36 min. not great time, but NO Walking!!! Whoohoo!! One of my goals with doing the half marathon is to show my boys that if you set your mind to something and work hard enough you can do it. Anytime I feel like walking I imagine my boys watching and I just can't do it. Keep reaching your goals this week people. Keep your inspiration close to your heart in the heat of the day and on your 2nd or third or fourth mile. You can do anything. I am off to drink my gallon of water. Rest tomorrow. 5.5 on Tuesday.

Re: Cool Running for the week of July 24th

Howdy folks, another 5 miles this morning. It was a nice breezy 68 degrees for my run. I forgot to put my tape on so I took my shirt off for the run. I finally just healed so I wasn't taking any chances. Because of the temperature I decided to do a tempo run instead of a long run, and I didn't really have two hours to run a ten miler (including shower time). So I pushed, ran the whole way (as opposed to any jogging), used the same stride as yesterday but faster. Not my best time but it was my second best time ever, 46:18. Which was 26 seconds slower than my best training run, but 1:22 faster than my race Thursday night.

Another new low this morning (282.3) but by only 0.2 pounds, c'mon 270's. I'm a comin'.

Hey Tex -- you rock! 8 miles! with a great time! and no walking!

I did 5.4 this morning, in almost as long as it took you to do your 8, 1:15:42. I also walked a lot. My longest run before this was 3 miles, so that's not too shabby. I ventured out onto the river path today. I love my 3 or 4 loops around the park, but it's starting to feel too sterile. I was planning on turning around at the first bridge (1.8 miles out + 1.8 miles back), but I felt so great that I kept going, and the next bridge was 2.7 miles out, which means I ran 5.4 miles. I didn't know the distance until I got back and could do the math. Edited to add: I measured my cadence during the first mile of the run. It was 82. This will be good to measure again in a few months to see if it's changing. I don't want to force it because I think that's how injuries happen.

Sarah, I saw in last week's CR thread that you're starting your marathon training tomorrow. Which marathon are you training for? I'm sure it's in one of these posts somewhere, but I must've missed it. I really want to train for either a half or a full, but I always told myself that I wouldn't make that decision until I could run a 10K comfortably (at a good pace). I've made too many rash decisions to train for (fill in really long race here) and I don't want to do that anymore unless I'm really going to follow through with the actual training. You've definitely got the training under your belt and the fire you need to keep you going, and for that I'm jealous!!!!

Just finished 6.6 strong miles at noon. It was a good day for running .. hot, yes, but a good breeze most of the way. Or maybe it just seemed easy to run half the distance I did on Saturday!! Finished in an hour 22 minutes .. slow, but that's my goal .. slower, longer, stronger! Burned 552 calories.

Re: Cool Running for the week of July 24th

I started Week 5 of the C25K plan last night and had a great run. I admit that surprised me because when I ran at 9 p.m. it was still 91 degrees with absolutely suffocating humidity, and all I had was a cotton t-shirt to run in (yuck!) But it went really well, and about halfway through my 20 minutes (which I always double *g*) I realized that I was just zooming along. Okay, not zooming, but somewhere in the past week I've shaved almost a minute and a half off my mile! Good grief! And it didn't even feel like I was pushing! Hurrah! I'd heard a lot of folks say that around week 5, and again at week 10, your body tends to overhaul and suddenly you find yourself running differently. I can say that's definitely true in my case. At least for week 5.

I finished last night dripping wet, but feeling fabulous, and went home to have a cup of low-carb yogurt with some pecans and blueberries mixed in. This is my after-run "treat" and I actually find that on days when I finish up with this I'm less exhausted the next day. No idea why, but I'm listening to my body. (As an aside, I sure like listening to my body when it says "yogurt and nuts" instead of "chips and queso!" So much less guilt inducing.

Today is my rest day, but last night was so good I might just go out and do a mile tonight. Something easy. Then again today's high is 100 degrees with a heat index of 115, so it's like living in Arizona again. I swear the sun here would take the hide right off a girl!

Hope everyone has a great week!

I did my HIIT cardio on the elliptical again today. Only this time, I started the HIIT after 7 minutes of moderate pace rather than 20 minutes, and was able to go a full 45 minutes, alternating between 2 minutes intense and 4 minutes moderate. Burned 590 calories!

I did my 2 miles I am soo tired and weak and sick EWW I have another chest infection it sucks but, seems to be a cycle after I have big weight loss or before LOL. It's from the toxins in my body I am sure so I am drinking and I am doing a salt water cleans Don't ask it works. LOL

So I was happy I did my 2 miles it was very hard I am soo tired I hope to god my energy returns to me soon with TOM comming some day. My cycle is messed up for the first time in months so I know the hormones are majorly screwed I know this cause of the wild weight fluctuations I am having of 13 pounds up and down when that happens my hormones really need to be getting in line.

So according to training I was supposed to be doing strength and stretch but, I switched it Causwe it will be easier for me to do the strength and stretch tomorrow with all the kids.

Thanks a lot everyone hope I'll be modivated here soon to do what I need to do. Hey I'm still doing it and 13 pound heavier right now craziness.

5 mile afternoon run, slow and very hot. I was dying by my hill at 3.7 miles I had to walk the last 10 yards and 10 more at the top, and then another 20 yards at the 4 mile mark. But then I was home free. 50:11 so it could've been worse.

You guys are really psyching me up to keep at it. Thanks, I needed that.

Went out and did another 3 miles last night, and I can see now that I need to keep up with my rest days for the time being. My right hip is really sore again today, and though I stretch it out and rest it it just doesn't seem to matter - two days of running on concrete will really hurt. Alas!

Okay, I'm off to take ibuprofen and eat some breakfast. If anyone here has experience with hip pain/soreness and has an idea of what to do about it I'm very open to suggestions.
