  • Cool Running for the week of August 21,2005

I DID IT!!!! 10 miles in 1hr 57min!!! YEAH!!! I burned 1079 calories this morning. I feel great. I most likely would have gone slower, but my hubbie had to go into work today, so I had to hurry and get home.
I spent 1.12 in my zone of 75-85% mhr/34.30 above 85%/10.14 below 75%. (average hr today was 157)

I love propell fitness water!!! 32 oz for $1.00 at wm. Target had a sale on running tops so my hubbie got me two. Guess what??? All of my running clothes are now M's!!! I am pretty modest, so it will take me a while to get used to the shirts, but it was much cooler to run in.(Champion C9)

Ok now I am going to go shower and convince my boys that it would be fun to clean the house to suprise daddy when he gets home from work. (and I thought 10miles was hard--hahahahaha!)

Thank you all so much for keeping me on the road. Never give in--Never surrender!!

RACH!! YOU ROCK, GIRLFRIEND!! WTG!!! I AM SO PROUD OF YOU!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!

I finished my 5k this morning after doing 10.2 yesterday on the trail .. happy to report that I finished a very hilly route, including crossing the finish line at the top of a 10% grade! in my record time of 10:51 pace per mile, or 33:38 for the 3.1 mile route. I am psyched! It was hotter than you-know-where, no breeze, 91% humidity .. OPPRESSIVE ... but I know those long training runs are really paying off because my stamina never wavered!! ALL RIGHTA!

Day off tomorrow, then hit the trail on Tuesday for 9 miles! Who knows, maybe 40 miles this week?

    Happy trails everyone!

WOW everyone is Kicking major A$$ I am soooo proud Way to Go tex on the 10 Miles that is soooo awesome I knew ytou would do it and BETTY WOW a new fast pace that totally ROCKS girl.

I went out late and ran my little heart out I did 8.25 Miles in 2 hours not a speed barrier but non the less I did it LOL.

I also bought some new runners so I wore them for my run what a hunk of crap they are Not good I am taking them back felt good on but when I was running my foot was rolling in which is bad so I am taking them back to the store they said I could return them up to 60 days but, there is no way I will run on those again I could severely hurt myself. I also noticed after running that the inner on the food it already giving which is sooo bad I think they build the shous backwards or something any how. Back they go and time for a different pair.

Re: Cool Running for the week of August 21,2005

Well, on the advise of both chiropractor and trainer, I've continued walking the dogs (which sometimes is nearly as fast as a run), but haven't run since last Tuesday.

Friday and Saturday we walked them around a local pond/trail (4.2 km (2.6 miles)); Sunday we chose a shorter route and a different pond/trail which is 2.7 km (1.7 miles). There is a trail to join the two, which will make it about 8 km total; once my leg heals we will try that with them.

The trainer says to start back slowly - that going from a couple short runs a week to 30 minutes, almost every day, and lots of hills and grades was too much, too soon, and my body has decided to rebel. Also, having a previous injury may have made the mechanics of my body not back to par just yet, and that could have added to my dilemma.

Keep up the good work, all. I'll just have to live vicariously through your reports.

And to try to answer questions (if I can remember them) posed in previous week's post:

                - my shoes are new, and I use them for running. The trainer checked them.
                - I wear orthotics to accommodate for pronation problems, or whatever other things they correct
                - I replace runners when necessary, and rotate a couple pair so they are not all sweaty and gross
                - my old runners get designated as exclusive dog walkers, when I just take them out around the area of the house
                Started Atkins: 21 Sep 2003
                Height: 5'2"

                Started as Size 14-16; Currently 3 - 7

Hey cmcole - I'm sorry to hear that you're still on the mend. Your post is a wake up call that doing too much too soon CAN be a bad thing. I backed down off my training a few weeks, and I've sort of restarted from scratch. You can just pretend you're a martyr for the rest of us, and we'll learn from your mistakes!

I started out doing my C25K week 3, day 1 today. This week calls for 90 seconds of jogging, 90 seconds of walking, 3 minutes of jogging, 3 minutes of walking, and then repeating that twice. I did that, and then proceeded to run 2 more loops around the park, for a total of 3 miles in 41:40. I think the C25K is my lifesaver. If I had planned to go run 3 miles today, I probably wouldn't have made it out the door.

Effie - I did my first day of Couch to 5K on Saturday and I thought it went rather well. It was much easier than I expected it to be. However, I was very sore yesterday and still a bit sore today, so I know I can't push it too fast. We'll see how I feel by tonight. I may do my second day if I feel good, or I may go to Curves instead and hold off on the walk/jog until tomorrow.

Hey all my fellow runners and walkers. I can't say how much I've missed this thread in the past couple of weeks. I will be hitting the road soon (as in this week). But right now my body is just done in from the construction. Roofed all day yesterday, and hauling 75 pound bundles of shingles up 20 feet of ladder, qualified as my hill work, LOL. I am sore in more places than I can count. Running will be a nice break for me, I need the mental time I get when I'm out there.

BTW, hit 70 pounds lost this morning.

Re: Cool Running for the week of August 21,2005

I start Week 9 of the C25K this week! My LAST week of the program! Holy cow. 30 minutes running tonight, which at my pace will be around 2.5 miles, but I don't even care. I'm just so completely happy to have made it through the whole thing, and not just "made it through" but really LOVING it. Sure, it's hard. And sure, there are some nights when I feel like I could be back in Week 3, and my legs are like lead. But when I see my shadow now I realize that I look like a respectable runner - I'm not burning up the roads but I'm not shuffling either, and I am doing a nice jog. So I'm pretty darn proud.

I'm also pretty darn proud that yesterday I made two impulse purchases - a size 14/16 corduroy jacket and tank top at Lane Bryant. That's the smallest size they make. The size 16 jackets were too big, but the 14/16 fit very well. Pretty soon I won't be shopping there at all. :happy sigh:

I also bought a Himalayan kitten, but she fits perfectly and just like the clothes will continue to get too big.

Yay for us! Betty, Sarah, Rach, mcotton, you are all doing FABulous.

I'm so excited to hear your success story since I just started Couch to 5k. Week nine seems like such a huge goal...almost so big that it seems unrealistic. Way to go! I am motivated and encouraged now!

Hello all I am new to this thread and to jogging.

I did my first session of training for a 5K, I also was really surprised at how easy it was. I wanted to just go and go and go. But I've heard the stories of over doing it in the beginning and so I took it slow. I want to go back and do some more tomorrow but I better wait until Wednesday so I can give my body some time to recover. I might just do some cross-training tomorrow.

I was supposed to walk for 90 seconds and then jog for 60. I stuck to the times but during the 90 seconds of walking I put it on a 4.0 incline, is this ok or should I just leave it with no incline the entire time?
