  • Cool Running for the week of September 4, 2005

I.....DID....IT. Now I know I did not waste that $40 entry fee for the half because this morning, in 2 hour and 47 min I ran 13.1 miles!!!!!!!! (this with potty and propell water stop) I went really slowly, avg hr 146, because I wanted so badly to be able to finish. Now I have 9 weeks to shave down the time. I feel elated. If I can do it anyone can. Don't let anything stop you.

Sarah I am glad to hear you knee feels good enough for you to do your 9 miles this morning.

    Way to go Nikkie.

What a great way to start the week ladies!!!

I did it I did my 9 miles my knee was perfect so I think I just twinged it 2 days ago it was good yesterday too, thank goodness. Yes, I did my 9 miles I really thought the last mile I can't do this but, then I began reveling in my acoplishment and cranked up the speedand took myself the last mile. It was **** my body was really hurting but, I sure as heck did it. Nothing stands in my way when I have a goal. my goal was to finish in 2 hours and I did that 1.59:30 so I am very pleased I finished it at a time My mind knew I could, my body really didn't want to cooperate but, I made it and suceeded. Can you say I feel GREAT. I burned over 15400 calories on my run and I sure feel that cause now I feel somewhat naseated but, I know it will pass. It's from the extreme pressue I put on myslef I suppose and the demands placed on my body.

    YA BABY

Holy crap, you two! I'm speechless.

Tex- Do you have a time goal for your half? With 9 weeks to go, you're going to end up winning the damn race!!!

Sarah- I say this every week, but I'm amazed at your continued progress. Just last month you ran that 10K, and now you're already up to 9 miles. Everytime I turn around, you're adding miles like crazy. Rock on, girl, ROCK ON!!!

Nothing for me for weeks, I'm in a total slump. The carb monster found me and won't let me out of his grasp. The first step is admitting it.....

This morning I went for a 30 minute brisk walk with my sister. I really want to do my couch to 5K. Yesterday was just my first day of week number three. Do you think it would hurt me to do it tonight, or would that be too much? I don't want to do too much. Any thoughts?

Nikki - I say that if you're feeling good, and you're feeling like you want to run, then RUN! I personally think that the 3 days/week is fairly light, so as long as you're not adding more than 2 extra days each week, you are still in a good level of training without overdoing it.

The bad news for me is that I didn't do my Couch to 5K workout today. But the good news is that I ran an entire 5K today! Took me 38 minutes, so it was very slow. I felt like crap because I went out too fast. I posted about it in my journal too. I want to do another 5K this coming Saturday. I'd love to get my time down under 36:00, and then under 33:00 and then under 30:00. Maybe in a couple of months, eh?

Wow, effie! 5K in 38 minutes? Ok, you can probably tell that I have never run a 5k since I have no idea what a good time is, but I would think 38 minutes was really good. I have no idea...what is a good 5k time for a beginning runner?

Man, you guys are all amazing! I was up at my cottage for the weekend and did some serious paddling for about three hours in a terrible headwind and whitecaps. It totally reminded why I hate flatwater paddling! Give me whitewater any day! Yesterday I got in an 8K run and today DH and I did about a 25K bike. I decided to face my nemisis on this ride, an absolutely HUGE hill which I've been avoiding. As we approached it there were already cyclists walking up it about half way so I was ready to do the same. I just told myself I'd just keep going until I can't go anymore. Well, I made it up! I couldn't believe it. I was so shocked and proud of myself! Man, I wish I lived in an area where I could run or cycle for even one kilometre on flat terrain!!! It's hill training for me every time! Guess it's good in the long run, eh?

                  Have a great week everyone!

Good morning all. 6 miles this morning, nothing remarkable to report, just got them done. Now time for a shower.

What a fun weekend you had Diane, way to go on the hill. You are a fighter!!

ok ok One small revelation, my hubbie and I were talking last night and we calculated that I have been running for about 3 1/2 months. When I started I could run 2 miles at a time, maybe 10 miles a week. I can now do 13 miles at a time(granted only once so far, but I will be repeating weekly) and I should reach 40 miles for the week this week. Keep at it, the time flies by and your goals get closer every day.

Re: Cool Running for the week of September 4, 2005

Nikki, to answer your question: A good time for a 5K, or any race, is all relative. I'd be psyched with 11 minute miles, but I'd still be at the back of the pack. I think the average pace for a healthy woman runner is about 8-9 minute miles. To qualify for the Boston Marathon, a 35 year old woman needs to run another marathon in 3:45 or less, which is an 8:35 pace. And that's for a marathon! These same women can probably run 7-8 minute miles for a 5K.

But, like I said, it's all relative. In the highlight of my running days a few years ago, my best 5K time was around 27 minutes. If I can get to where I can run a 5K in under 30 minutes, I'd be all set and I'd never complain about anything again

Diana - Wow! What a great weekend. When you come back, you come back STRONG!!!

Tex - Seriously, if you can go from 2 miles to 13 miles in 3.5 months, and you still have 9 weeks until the half, I think you really will win that race!

Sarah, congrats on your 10 months! I'm still working on one week cheat free.

No run for me today, I had to wait for the delivery of our new dryer. Yay! I'm going down to the local running store right now to register me & my dad for the 5K this Saturday. My goal is to beat my time from Monday. My official time was 37:55, a 12:14 pace. I was 157th out of 170 runners, so I wasn't dead last like I thought The race on Saturday is just a weenie po-dunk race. Last year there were only 60 runners total, so that's kind of intimidating. Oh well, it's not scaring me off!
