Re: Cool Running for the week of September 4, 2005

HELLO TO ALL MY RUNNING FRIENDS!! I AM BAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!

We had a great time at Cedar Point .. the temps along Lake Erie were in the 70s and the lows were in the mid-50s!! Talk about a shock!! NO HUMIDITY which was really nice, although all I did was put lip balm on my dry lips and lotion on my itchy skin! There's something good to be said for living here in the sauna belt .. no itchy dry skin!!

Anyway, I did discover that, due to my obvious lack of cushioning, (ahem...bony butt) rollercoasters REALLY HURT!! I used to be able to ride them without pain, but any more? YIKES Let's just say the spirit is willing but the body is bony! DD & DH had a great time .. we were at the park 3 full days which meant we did about everything. I'll try and post some pix ..

I was limited to running on a treadmill for 3 days .. I hated it!! No way does running on a treadmill even come close to hitting the trail .. so first thing this morning (after we picked up the cat from the vet and bathed him), I hit the trail for 5.34 miles. AHHHHHHHHHHHH. That's more like it. I have managed 16.4 miles this week, so not too bad. Hopefully one more running day tomorrow, then a day off before hitting the 13.1 mile trail run on Saturday! YAY!

Man alive, you guys have been doing GREAT while I was gone! Congrats, Rach on the 13.1!! Sarah, you just keep getting faster aned faster! And 10 months cheatfree!! Effie, goodluck in you 5k!! You will definitely beat your other time! I know you will!! 5ks are just so much fun!
Diana, you are DEFINITELY BACK! I am so proud of you!! YAY !!!!!

Well guys, another interview today and tomorrow. Geesh, I hope this week will be THE WEEK!! I am sick of putting on a suit!! Maybe I should consider taking a sign with me that reads 'WILL WORK FOR RUNNING SHOES..'

Have a great running day everyone!

Re: Cool Running for the week of September 4, 2005

Ok I was a little slow body wasn't willing but, that's ok I ran 5 k in 37.50 so under 38 minutes and I have really improved. YAY.

I know what you mean Betty about the treadmill I would love to be outside doing this but, I have to run on the treadmill. I have to give myself credit for running 2 hours on the thing Thank god I have an MP3 player or I would be bored to tears. I actually run a faster time outside then I do inside the guage on the treadmill is not totally up to par I know that but, hey I am probably running further then I say then right which is cool. Only makes it that much easier outside. LOL

I am really praying for good weather on Sunday cause I wanna run 10 miles outside if I don't get that far it's all right but, I am sure gunna try my hardest.

D DAY is tomorrow I am weighing we'll see what all this hard work has got me. I lost another 1/2 inch on my waist it's now 30.5 which totally rocks. I am a shrinking machine. WOOOHOOO. I was wondering why my abs were popping out so much and why I could feel the muscle at the side of my waist it's soooo cool to have such a small waist. I have lost 1 inch on my waist in 4 weeks so I am stoked about that.

Any how I should go I ahve to do lunges later I am really gunna wanna die I'm sure after but, I'll do it.

        Take care

Re: Cool Running for the week of September 4, 2005

Gosh darn it!!! My hubbies job is making me crazy right now. His schedule is very random and unpredictable at the moment.(engineer in the semiconductor industry) It is really messing with my running schedule. I did not get to run yesterday, I did do taebo Wed and yesterday. I ran 4 miles this morning, and walked another two. My feet were killing me as I switched from my beloved rifts to an older pair of runners I had because my husband is concerned I don't have enough cushioning. Well crap those shoes sucked!!! I am going to go this weekend and see if I can find something with the cushioning I "should" be wearing that is as light and tight as my rifts. If not, then I am just going to continue what I am doing. I mean I have been wearing these type of shoes for 3.5 months, if it is not broke, don't fix it. He has a male coworker who is an advid runner(24 marathons) and he told hubbie I should not be wearing those shoes for training, only races. He also told him this is why they are wearing so quickly, he said that he gets new shoes every 9 months?????? Sacony. UGGGGGG!!!!! He just doesn't want me to get hurt. (but I am pretty sure I will still be running in rifts next week with a few new pair on the way Have a great weekend everyone.

Can't wait to hear about Sarah's weigh in.

Betty, does you new job pay you in New Balance credit?

Re: Cool Running for the week of September 4, 2005

Hey guys just thought I would let you know my results for my month long of not weighing. I lost 4 pounds I have 28 to go. It's really slow going now the good news is I have lost major bodyfat and am within 7% of my goal. I lost 4 % bodyfat from 4 weeks ago of course the stupid scale won't tell you that. I tell you that thing is evil I hate it and it's going by by away from my life cause it really wreaks havok on my emotional and physical wellbeing. This morning just to tell you how stupid I am in how I link my progress to the scale for a brief second I thought What the **** is the point. Now how stupid is that. It was that moment I had to slap myself and wake up and smell the coffee. I have lost 82 pounds I am a real runner now not just a side jockey who only does it a couple times a week I am in the best shape I have EVER been in my life and I have become a new person. I don't know what I was thinking at that second but, I tell you it was stupid and so Here I am off and running I won't let that stop me cause I am the one who truely knows what great progress I have had and nobody can take that away from me but, me. So I won't and I will continue.

Thanks all for listening to me rant I needed to to get my thoughts out.

Re: Cool Running for the week of September 4, 2005

Goodness, look what happens while I'm away! It's so good to be back, ladies (and gents). I've been helping with the hurricane relief effort and haven't had much computer time, but I'm back now. I did keep running (of course) and am going out to do 5K tomorrow. I'm psyched about that, because I've been stalled for a while at around 2.5 miles. It's been mainly bad planning on my part (eating too much a few hours before running/being out of town/insane work and grad school papers due, etc) but I'm doing 5K tomorrow.

Sarah, I swear you could do ANYthing! Your goal setting and dedication is remarkable and a real inspiration. I confess that my eating hasn't been 100%, but I've been so thrilled because for the first time in ... well, ever... I realize that even when I've "cheated" I'm not eating badly. I cheated with too much trail mix, for heaven's sake. I split a piece of cheesecake with my sister at her birthday party, I ate too many whole grain crackers. That's a FAR, FAR cry from the old days, you know? The old days being not too long ago when I could eat a large pizza BY MYSELF and then finish it off with dessert, only to start the whole carb process over agian the next morning. I felt terrible then, and emotionally raw, and now I just feel ... real. I love it.

Anyway, I'm back, and I'm happy that you're all doing so well. Be safe and run fun.

Welcome back Revea!! We've missed you!

I just got back from a 6.2 mile 'fun run' .. Normally I don't run on Friday, but this week has been so screwy (being out of town, then having interviews...) So today, nothing was gonna stop me from hitting the streets!

So that gives me 22.8 miles for this week. Hopefully a long run tomorrow .. I'll shoot for the 13.1 and see what happens.

                  Have a great Friday everyone!

Welcome back, Reveal! I did 6K this morning and lower body weights. My last two runs were a little sluggish. I'm guessing because of TOM and I'm having wicked allergies this fall. I haven't had fall allergy problems for about ten years but the ragweed this year is up to my waist around here. Lots of people having problems apparantly. But, I persevered and got 'er done! DH is in his firt triathlon tomorrow. Although, and I hate to admit this, I'm a little jealous. I was supposed to have done mine last month but I have this shoulder/rib injury that is holding me back from the swim. I'm going for more diagnostics over the next several weeks (radiographs, ultrasound and an MRI). Isn't it terrible of me to feel that way? Sheesh! Anyways, I'll be there to cheer loudly for him and take lots of pictures! Next spring it will be me! Have a great weekend everyone!

I totally agree. Not only that, but 4 pounds in a month is still good! I'd kill for a 1 pound per week loss Sarah, you are totally there. If you had asked yourself what you wanted out of this weight loss before you started, you'd probably find that you already have it. YOU ARE THERE! The rest of the weight coming off is just a technicality, so just keep on doing what you're doing and you won't even realize when you hit goal because you'll already be on top of the world.

Oh yeah, and I ran my 5K this morning, and took almost 4 minutes off my time from Monday!!!!! I thought that kind of improvement would take weeks, but it only took me 5 days!

I finished in just under 34:00, so my next goal is to run it in under 32:00, then under 30:00. Once I can do a sub 30, I'll think about doing a 10K.

The race was so small, only about 40 people, and they were all real runners. I was scanning the crowd ahead of time, trying to find the overweight people, or the people wearing jeans, or the mothers pushing strollers -- you know, trying to find the people who would be with me at the back of the pack. None of them looked the type! And sure enough, as soon as the gun sounded, everyone took off and I was dead last before I even crossed over the official start line. I knew it would be a long and lonely race. At about the 1 mile mark, I passed a girl who stopped to tie her shoe. She was one of those runners that would run at a pretty good clip, then stop to walk, then run again. I'm all for the walk breaks here and there, but sprinting 1/4 mile and then walking over and over again isn't the best way to do it. So I gained a pretty comfortable lead on her and could just barely see the next runner ahead of me. It took me another mile and a half to catch up to her, and once I passed her, there was no turning back. I was third to last, and I was psyched! I cruised to the finish line and finished strong. The thing that sucked was that I still had a police escort when I finished, so it looked like I was the last runner. Oh well, I got more applause that way
