  • I did it! My first 5K

    Well, it's over, and I couldn't have hoped for a better first 5K experience. I did the Race for the Cure on Saturday and finished in 36:36, which I was happy with. It was a cloudy, 50 degree day and GREAT weather for running. I had a little fan club (my partner and my best friend) and I didn't have to walk at all during the run and was even able to really churn on the speed near the end. Afterward we celebrated with breakfast out (I try to go easy on the sausage, generally, but I had 3 celebratory patties Saturday morning *g*) and I came home and got overzealous cleaning the house because I was so proud and energetic.

    Now I have just over a month until my first 8K (5 miles!) and I am really looking forward to it!

    I couldn't have done it without all of your support these past few months. I really mean that. {{{ADBB Exercise list}}}

      Way to go Reveal! You did the whole thing without walking -- that's a fantastic accomplishment! I'm like you, I usually have some speed left at the end. That's the best feeling in the world, to actually RUN across the finish line and not feel like you're going to collapse in the chute!

      Good luck training for the 8K! We'll all be here cheering you on until then

              Re: I did it! My first 5K

              Hmm, actually, looking at the official numbers on the website it says my chip time was 33:19 and my gun time was 36:21. Is one of these "more" official than the other? Should I go with the chip time? Of course I'd like to, because that gives me a 10:45 pace and shaves three minutes off the time I thought I had, but I don't want to do that if it's wrong.

              Any ideas?

                Re: I did it! My first 5K

                AWESOME!

                Did it take you 3mins to get thru the start gate?
                Then the "chip time" is the actual time to get from start to finish.
                "Gun time" is the time from the starting horn to the finish.
                I personally go with "chip time" because it's more accurate as to how I actually did that day.

                      I did that 5k too! We arrived on 9th street @ 6:55 and waited in the traffic until 7:50 before we decided to just pull somewhere else and pay outrageous $$ for parking. The weather was horrible though! all that rain smaking me in the face was getting a little old! lol. Good job! Great time!

                        33 minutes for a 5 k is a very respectable time. Congratulations. Btw, I would count the chip time.

                        Also a very well done for running the whole way.
