  • Cool Running for the week of October 9th, 2005

Hey, just thought I would post. I was planning on doing my long run today but, everythig and I mean everything got screwed up we did the annual Turkey dinner at my Grandmas and it was good of course cheat free and I did awesome. Any how my hubby was going to drop me out of town and I was gunna run the 12 k into town he was just about to drop me off the phone rings and it's his work GEEEZE. He had to get to work ASAP so I missed my opportunity to run and I am sooo mad. I should just take it in stride. I hate when this happens I feel like I don't know like horrible I was looking forward to the run. ANy how I am committed and 1 day isn't gunna kill me but it sure feels like it. I guess I will do the long run tomorrow and go from there I hope.

    Take care all

Re: Cool Running for the week of October 9th, 2005

I asked this in my other thread, but will put it here too. According to the website for the 5K I did Saturday my chip time was 33:19 and my "gun time" was 36:21. I've been saying I finished in 36:36, because that was the number I could see when I passed the finish line, but should I be going with my chip time instead? I'd love to, of course, because that's a better time. *g*

      Ideas?

I ran today really long time 2 hours 20 minutes I thought I was gunna die. I was soooo bored I wanted to quit but, I pushed through and finished it. It's days like this that I am proud of myself. When I don't wanna and I do it any how. YAY

Hi everyone. Had a blast this weekend at my cottage. We ran some killer hills yesterday, like heartrates over 200 hills. Brutal! But boy did we enjoy our Thanksgiving dinner after! 10k long, slow training run for me today as well as upper body weights.

Reveal, I have no idea about the time thing! Congrats again though!

Hey Rev, I think you were answered on your other thread, but for everyones sake.
You get two times-- one from the gun to when you cross the finish line and one from when you cross the start line to when you cross the finish line. In large races it may take you several seconds to several min before you are able to get to the starting line after the race has begun.

Re: Cool Running for the week of October 9th, 2005

              Well this just sucks.

Sunday afternoon I was helping DH wash his Camry in the driveway. I was attempting to dry off the roof of the car, so I stepped on the rocker panel of the car to help me reach up that high .. okay, long story short, my foot was wet and slipped off the ledge and I fell .......... scraping my left shin on the car .. it was BRUTAL........my shin immediately swelled up as big as a baseball as the full brunt hit a very bony part of my body.........DH ran in the house and got ice for me......I was screaming in pain..........never in my life has anything hurt so bad (including 34 hours of childbirth labor....) Anyway, here it is, 2 days later and my leg is swollen so bad I can't even see the bones in my ankles (bear in mind I typically have VERY bony ankles and skinny legs)......so obviously I haven't been running .. although tonight I swear I'm gonna at least try to speed walk, even though the swelling is bad in my left leg. Will see how it goes. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRr, I am so daggoned mad!

I totally miss my running, but right now, just to do a speed walk will be a huge challenge. I'm gonna try though!! I can't bear the thought of slacking 2 days in a row!

Re: Cool Running for the week of October 9th, 2005

Oh, Betty I am sooo sorry that you hurt yourself But, Please don't end up injuring yourself further take it easy. Remember what you always say Rest,Recover, Resume. Be sure to Ice that leg lots and if it's that swollen maybe go and see the doc if in a few days you are not seeing an improvement. (((HUGS)))

I ran today I had to run I couldn't stop myself it's like so addicting. I went for 1 hour 30 minutes incline of 4% and 30 minutes down right tearing up the belt. It was an excellent run I feel so great.

Question is it normal for the body to kinda not want to go past the Half marathon distance. I have been on these weeks of training for what seems like forever I just can't seem to get past it. Do I need to push myself to the next level or what. I am unsure as to what to do now. I am increasing my other distances through the week to hopefully break this barrier I am facing. GRRRR. I have never not achived a goal and this is perplexing me and pissing me off. I wanna start shooting for the next level of distance.

                Any suggestions.

Re: Cool Running for the week of October 9th, 2005

Thanks, Sarah! Actually I decided to workout tonight and did half-run/half-power walk for 4.5 miles. The leg is numb right now........ wonder what tomorrow will bring? Oh well, ya know, I couldn't slack another day from my cardio.....I told DH .. the only thing worse for me than a swollen leg is missing my running and I wasn't up to the mental LET DOWN of not doing something tonight.

Sarah, I would say, if you are feeling fine after 13.1 miles, go ahead and push yourself another mile or so and see how you do. Sometimes I think those "barriers" are more of a mental thing than a physical one. So go ahead, give it a shot. You can always cut it back if you start to cave in. I'd go for it!

Girl, you never cease to inspire and motivate me! THANK YOU!!

Sarah I think you and I are both crazy. You're getting sick and yet you run. I can barely walk, but I'm out there tonight running/power walking. Why? Cuz we gotta have our endorphins going! Yep, we're crazy!

                      You take care of yourself!

I did 3.5 miles last night along a new route. (I love Google Pedometer!) I was getting sick of my neighborhood, so I ran through the historic district and it was really lovely. Now that I've got the 5K done I'm focusing on the 8K in November and I'm really excited about that. After that, I am both pleased and a little embarrassed to admit that I'm *already* thinking about the St. Louis half marathon in April. My dear friend lives there and I always visit in April anyway, so it seemed like a good idea. Also, I've waited so long to like a sport that I really feel like this is an opportunity for me to run in places that I've always wanted to visit, or that mean something to me on an emotional level. Does that make sense? My 8K is in Richmond, Va, my hometown (or it should have been - it feels like it was) and then the half in St. Louis, and maybe, someday in the distant future, a marathon in a city that I love.

                            I can't even believe I'm saying that. But I will anyway. *g*
