Re: Cool Running for the week of October 16th

Oh Rach & Sarah, thank you for being so concerned!! The leg is MUCH BETTER tonight after resting it last night. I don't think I've fractured it .. I can walk just fine .. it just swelled up yesterday for whatever reason (?) ..

I plan a big run tomorrow (Saturday) of at least 10-12 miles .. we'll see how it goes. It felt good to rest last night although I really wanted to run!!

    You guys are THE BEST!!

    Love ya!

Re: Cool Running for the week of October 16th

Hey everyone! I ran yesterday after taking Wed. off--45 min. I also ran in my NEW shoes--Saucony Hurricane 7s--like my friend and running buddy Haley says, they're like running on pillows--great cushioning in the forefoot. I love my Brooks Adrenalines, but with this neuroma, I need more cushioning in that area, and the Sauconys do deliver! I only really noticed issues after about 5-6 mi, so I will run in my Brooks during the week and in my Sauconys for my Sat. group long runs; I will also purchase another pair to run in for the marathon...

Tomorrow is our 9-miler--my first time running that distance, so there is always a little trepidation. However, the more I run, the more I notice that right around 5-6 mi, I feel like I can go for quite awhile longer. So, I'm thinking will probably enjoy this distance. Never thought I would ever say THAT! I'm an addict, I suppose...

I went back to the podiatrist today to follow up from last week's taping. She gave me a prescription for some OTC orthotics for my dress shoes, and we will get custom made ones for my running shoes. Tomorrow I will just try running in my new shoes with their improved cushioning--I may just need to add a metatarsal pad. She also x-rayed my foot for possible fracture--when I was subbing Mon., a students was sitting in his chair, leaning forward so that the rear legs were off the floor--he came down just as I was passing by, and landed on my foot, right above my neuroma--yeow! She felt around the top of my foot and suggested an x-ray when I had a sharp stabbing pain..They came back negative, so she diagnosed it as metatarstalgia, and said to watch it during training, as a fracture could result from it...Oh the joys of foot care...

Well, gotta go participate in family movie night--we're watching Aladdin.

Good luck on everyone's long runs/races this weekend!

Re: Cool Running for the week of October 16th

13.5 BIG ONES TODAY!! Yay me!!

I decided its time to resume those 1/2 marathon runs on Saturday as the big WDW 1/2'er weekend approaches! Now, if we could just get the cool weather that goes with it!!

Today was horrendously hot and humid .. feels much more like August than October to me......

The good news is, the leg felt good today, just a little sore at about the 12 mile mark .. but a huge improvement over last week. So obviously I needed to rest it and let it recover.

          Tomorrow is a rest day!

Whoo hoo!! Great job Betty. I had a horrible low milage week, but it just couldn't be helped. You all will be proud to hear that even thou hubbie will be out of town on Biz next week I will be getting in all my miles. That is right I have asked MIL to come stay with us to help with the kids. It also makes her drive to work much shorter. She drives less I run more everyone wins!!! Great week you guys. See you tomorrow after 13.

WOOHOO! 9 miles today--for the first time! Time: 1:28--consistently, just under a 10:00/mi pace... My new shoes are terrific--my feet felt great, and I really did feel like I could keep going awhile. Haley and I did push the last .5 mi or so--more of a tempo run to finish. We only stopped for 1 water stop (of the 3)--we used our amphipods instead. I am a little sore in my hamstrings now--I think I'll utilize the ice bath next Sat. when we do 10 mi.

              I'm so proud of us!

              Good job everyone!

Re: Cool Running for the week of October 16th

Sarah Has to skip her long run YES, I do. It'll be all right I'll pic back up next week. I have BLISTERS on the insides of my feet something I ahve heard is very common. I have this problem my feet get soaked when I run then start rubbing so I need a cure and some new socks I am thinking the ones I have are running socks but, won't work for the log haul. My shoes also have 250 miles on them GOD, I never thoguht I would be replacing shoes every 3 months NUTTY. SO I went on Ebay and found some HOT shoes BY addidas cause I know they fit my feet perfect. and soon as I get paid they are mine. Then I'm stalking up cause I can get 2 pairs for the price of 1 pair WOOHOO.

Any who if I run today it'll be a short run I want to give my feel evey opportunity to heal so I got to take the day off.

Re: Cool Running for the week of October 16th

Hey Sarah--Are your socks coolmax or some other wicking material? As my coach says, cotton is NOT your friend! I love my socks from wigwam--the ones I have are triathlon socks--really thin, designed to dry quickly. If you need thicker ones, Wright Socks makes a double layer sock--the inner layer fits close to your feet, the outer layer is looser, so if there is any rubbing, it's the sock against the sock. These socks are touted to prevent the blisters...

Missing a run is OK--keep your feet healthy!
