Running makes you fat????
Okay, so I posted a thread yesterday announcing that I’m training for the LA Marathon (which I am really excited about). So I was on the treadmill last night at the gym and had just finished 6 miles and this trainer pops up next to me on the other treadmill (startling me a bit) She starts asking me questions about the gym and what I do and what I like etc. I told her I was training for the marathon so mostly I was using my membership to use the treadmills because I didn’t feel safe running outside at night.
I asked her if she was “taking a survey” of members of the gym or if she was trying to promote personal training…..she said that basically she was trying to sell personal training. I told her that right now I wasn’t interested because after I get all my miles in for the marathon training, I don’t have time for any more training.
She then told me that she used to run about 32 miles a week (I’m doing about 34 I told her). She then told me that if I didn’t vary my cardio and do strength training that I would start gaining the fat back?!! Huh? I understand that strength training and mixing up your workouts is important, but that I would start gaining fat?
Has anyone heard of this before, because I thought it was a bunch of baloney and that she was just trying to sell me on personal training, that if all I did was use the treadmill, I was going to get fat. Again, I say, huh?!
Any thoughts?
