To be honest, I'm not sure quite what I want it for yet, jimmie... I only know that on my old computer I had a program (can't remember which) on which I could make photo collages, and I used it quite a lot, for stuff outside of this board. With the new computer, I only have "Paint" and the Windows Pic Manager... and can't seem to find a simple way to put lots of pics together. It's just a useful thing to be able to do, particularly for siggy stuff. Your awards collage is very cool.

why thank you ma'am. i used Print Shop 12. it's an older program but it works well for things. its how i saved the word searches, did the certificates and was finally able to make a few graphics. as i earn things i can pull up the saved "picture" and make whatever changes i wan't to make.

thanks for the link sadie! you always know the best places to go!!!

i did flights again today. i am over my goal for the week so things are good.
i am really liking the ball challenge now too. mixing up all kinds of bal exercises has been a good thing for me.

i'm sorta kinda caught up with things so i thought i'd pop over here.

flights are coming along really well! i had envisioned me striving to earn the mountain award and not getting it till the end of december and that just wouldn't do. my goal got changed from 160 flights per week to at least 270 upwards to 300. last week i got 423, so i am very much on track.

the ball exercise is coming along and i'm in the process of getting things together for the new board wide challenge. i look forward to that.

sadie, i see a new pic in your siggy! maybe the pic is not new but you did change it, at any rate.

              sal, your's is changed too!

maybe i need a new one. we forgot about the camera being out of commission so it still hasn't been fixed. no new pics from me for awhile.

btw, i've spied denise around some forums. i may have to latch ahold of her and drag her in here.

i've got a question for ya'll. do you still do fitday? sadie, i know you do sparkpeople but are you doing it right now? how strict are you with the percentages that are "right" for maintenance? and what's you average calorie intake now?

              • Re: The Goalie's Challenge Exercise Thread

Acctually Jimmie I've switched to one called www.thedailyplate.com. I like this iste so much I spent the $25 for the 'gold' program that has bonus features. I've found that it has almost all of the foods I eat, including brand names. My biggest complaint is that people can add their own foods to the list, and for some reason many leave out the protein amounts. I've sent a note to the mods that it should be a required field and it sounds like they're going to look into changing that for me. You can update any food yourself though so i've been fixing the ones that are off.

My calories have been all over the place lately, i'm trying to keep them a bit lower and my carbs a bit higher to shake things up a bit. I tend to keep my carbs at induction levels, which i have to stop doing. I'm still up a bit in weight, but i don't think it's carbs that have anything to do with it..it's exercise. Now that i'm running again I'm going to try to keep my carbs no less than 50g a day that should keep my calories down. I'm still really struggling to find a good balance where i can get back to my goal weight. I'm thinking the running/gym time should help...problem is i have to keep up with it and stop quitting! going back to induction now that i'm in maintainnace has always been disasterous for me..but i become carb phobic and keep doing it. I have to stop that cycle.

I really wish I was one of those people that could keep the weight off w/o exercise, but i know that's not the reality.

i remember seeing you post that link in another thread recently. i'm glad they seem to want to fix problems areas for you.

i have the older fitday and i like it much better than what i see some members have now. i see percentages and from what i am seeing, not every one is getting that.
i know from looking at a post megs made that by the time we get to maintenace,
                  maintanance percentages should be:
                  fat 50%
                  carbs 20%
                  protein 30%

if i'm trying to lose 5 pounds, i'm not really on maintenance, right? and it seems to me i would need to adjust those numbers. maybe to something like:
                  fat 52%
                  carbs 17%
                  protein 31%

numbers between induction and maintenace but closer to maintenance. does that make sense?

i try not to worry about the calories so much. yesterday's was 1800 and the highest it's been since i started recording stuff again. btw, i've been showing signs of ketosis this past week. i'm burning fat from something. if my fat percentages are higher it might simply be the fat i am eating.
this is alot of work. no wonder people stay on induction for so long.

sadie, i am beginning to think that i won't see the 120 ever again and, like you, i know it's not the eating. carb counts have been fine. i've been exercising so much, being active and i know that's the cause of a few pounds. well, that and the ever present out of whack hormones. i was settled very nicely into the 123 to 125 weight. now it's more like 127 or 128. i'm still under the original goal but over the goal i had set to earn the award.

I still use Fitday religiously. Use their "pay for" version. Suits me fine, now that I've gotten used to it.

I know what you mean Sadie about trying to up your carbs and down your cals... that's what I'd rather like to do, but can't seem to manage it.

My percentages have never been correct. Always higher in fat, which puts the cals up too. I average around 1700/2000 usually and around 55/60% fat, 25%ish protein, 12/15% carbs. And some alcohol 'cos of the glass of wine in the evenings. I know that this is because here in Italy we use olive oil liberally... veggies are very often tossed in oil, garlic and chili... plus I have butter on flax crackers (my weakness).

Lately have kept the cals and carbs down a little (around 1700) and ditched the alcohol to get rid of the Christmas extra couple of pounds. It worked, but took forever... now, seem to be on a losing phase and have hit a new low... where I'm hovvering.

Thing is... I don't really want to get rid of the fats in favour of extra carbs... but think perhaps I should. I hear you Jimmie when you say: "this is alot of work. no wonder people stay on induction for so long."

Congrats on getting so many flights in Jimmie. Awesome.

The past couple of days i've upped my carbs, and brought my fats down a bit and it has really helped. I think this is really what I need to do at this point. Unlike you sally, bringing down my carbs has never worked for me. I've now been struggling with this 10 lbs for a year and a half. seriously!! it goes up and down a few lbs..but up more than down. I've pretty much cut out cheese including cream cheese, cut back on my higher fat dairy(likecream) and added more fruit and grains. Yesterday to add some carbs I had steel cut oats for breakfast, tuna salad with 2 slices of crispbread for lunch, and half a grapefruit for a snack in teh afternoon. I had no idea how much I loved grapefruit! My net carbs were still only 60 (i was afraidthey'd go throughthe roof LOL)but my calories came way down. I ended up with 30% protein, 50% fat and 20% carbs and my calories wereway down at 1400. I'm going to see if maybe this is good ratio for me?

Anyhow...I'm still keeping up withthe gym, i've gone yesterday and today, 20 min runs and weights both days

sadie those are the exact percentages the megs quotes for maintenance. the exact ones! good for you!

i had to giggle.... i had oats this morning, too. fg is eating them and made her entry in stats.

i believe you in your struggle. i've been losing and gaining this same 5 pounds for the last 4 or 5 months i guess. my net carbs are running about the same as yours.

Keep plugging away Sadie, and experimenting... you'll find what's right for you sooner or later. Your percentages are very good!

On a diff subject, but related... was wondering...do any of you do what Dr A suggested, and lower carbs a few days before a period when you know you'll be eating more (like visiting friends/relatives)? So you have some leeway, I mean. Or do you perhaps drop the carbs after... or not at all?

No I have not done that either, like Jo I haven't had much trouble having something to eat. If i do go over my carb limits though, or know i've just eaten too much in general (thanksgiving, easter etc are always good for this ), I make sure I up the exercise. I always feel a 20-30 min run or workout should offset the few extra carbs or calories.

Something interesting, I had some ketostix here, I'm still in ketosis even though i've upped my carbs to 70-80/day. curious to see how this goes knowing that. I was just assuming i was out of ketosis. I guess there's much to be said for the effects of aerobic exercise!

Wow Sadie! Ketosis at 70/80 carbs is something!

Jimmie... wasn't particularly meaning eating things that aren't allowed, just eating rather more, or different to usual. Like... when I go to my MIL's... she cooks things that I can eat, no problem, but she's heavier on oil than I am and, in company I tend to eat a bit more.

I've never changed my way of eating before this kind of change, rather, like Sadie... I up the exercise after and keep things a little ummm... conservative... carb/calorie-wise for a day or two after. Usually works for me...

Maintenance really is a balancing act... don't y'll think?
