    jogging vs. pilates

I was talking to someone on the phone last night. She has a genetically (?) great body! We were talking about dieting and I told her that I need to do more cardio to get rid of this extra fat that is covering my hot body. She was like "Oh noooooo! Do Pilates! You sweat, you feel good, you'll lose weight faster, blah blah blah". I told her I jog. She said it's bad for the knees and that I would get much better results with Pilates.

    Your thoughts?

Try Pilates. Theres nothing wrong with running if you are fit enough to do so, but maybe some other exercise adds a little spice to your routine, why not try (and do) both? If you don't like it you can still skip it.

They're do two entirely different things - and in combination, they'd be awesome.

Pilates will lengthen, strengthen and tone your muscles. It can help improve posture and all sorts of good stuff. It's not cardio though, and while building lean muscle does increase your BMR and burn more calories - it's *not* aerobic exercise. Obviously, the jogging is and cardio burns fat.

I say find room for both!

I second the vote to do both! Your jogging will improve as you strengthen your core muscles with Pilates.

Definitely a combination of cardio exercise and resistance training combined will provide the best results for fat burning. There was an article at www.thefactsaboutfitness.com based on a researched study that showed better weight loss for people that combined cardio and resistance training compared to groups of people doing just cardio or resistance training that was very interesting.

Who said EVERY day??? I'll be doing 3-4 days a week to start until I can better schedule my time or get addicted to it. Which ever comes first!

I didn't say "every" either. LOL

50 minutes a day 3-4 times a week is still more than respectable
