    Re: runnig question

Running Burns Calories and unless you Plug your weight in it's not accurate it works out calories for a 150 lbs person as well as if you are putting out a Huge effort The elliptical always told me I burned this amazing amount of calories in the end it is wrong I found the effort on the elliptical much easier my HR was lower. If when you are running you get your HR up really good you are burning far more calories. I have found myself that running has slimmed me out the most of anything I did the Elliptical too and didn't see the results I wanted till I started running. You did great go your Perceived effort and also when you are heavier it's harder as you lose it gets easier.

IMHO, you should vary it. Varying excercise stops boredom from creeping in. Also, the calorie counter on some of the CV equipment isnt all that accurate.

But I think the bottom line is - Do which ever you prefer or enjoy! As excercise should be an enjoyment thing.

I agree with Rich. A variation of cardio exercise is the best way to go so that the body doesn't get used to the same exercise over and over again.

do what you like the most and ignore those cal burning things. I remember when I plugged it all into the fitday activities section and I burned enough cals to lose over 10 pounds a week but it never happened like that or I'd have been a goalie in less then a yr.

                Re: runnig question

As far as the treadmill goes I burn twice as many calories when I walk at a moderate pace at an incline say 8-10% than just running fast flat for the same amount of time. They say that you have to have a 1% incline on a treadmill to simulate real flat ground anyways, a 0% run is more like running slightly downhill.

In fact, a 2% incline is recommended to simulate running outdoors in all my running/triathlon books and mags. It's not just to account for changes in grade, but wind resistence.

If you really want an accurate method of calorie burn, invest in a good heart rate monitor with a chest strap which you can program for your weight and age.

I have the Polar M61 and its very accurate.
