  • Cool Running for the week of March 19, 2006

Well spring week has arrived! Are you ready for the warmer weather?? I hope you are and that you've got a brand spankin' new pair of running shoes to hit the pavement with! Ah, spring .. Fresh clean air, gentle breezes, a new pair of running shoes ... PARADISE FOUND!

Off day for me today (Sunday). A welcome respite after yesterday's 10k .. but looking forward to a great week of running starting tomorrow!

I ran just over three miles (5k) on the treadmill this morning. 28 minutes 10 seconds.

It never ceases to amaze me of how easy and how effective this ***diet*** is!!

I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

      Hey Betty-

Thanks for the idea on the SF energy drink, I think I'll go out and look for on today! I hit such a bad wall so early for me yesterday. (Details are too gross to discuss, but doing much better today.)

I'm doing 5-6 miles weekdays, with one day being speed work and my long run is around 7 miles. I'm sure if I can get this thing figured out I could go longer because I'm a little tired at the end, but recover so quickly. I'm actually following a specific training program.

I've run 5 and 10Ks before and will one day run a marathon...that's been on my to-do list for years, but I figure the half is a pretty good goal. I'm still not really fast, but I'm working on it and it's not really about speed for me, more about making the goal of how far and actually finishing the race. That's what means the most to me. I'll never be some record breaking runner, but I can certainly break my own records!!!

      Thanks for the input!

You are so welcome! Let me know how you like it and how it helps your running!

How many days a week are you running? Be sure and get adequate rest days .. they are important! Think of them as your RECOVERY AND STRENGTHENING DAYS .. (cuz that's what they are!)

Hon, the half is MORE than a pretty good goal! ITS AWESOME, and you will feel incredible doing it! I loved my halfer experience and looking back, I would NOT have missed it .. it was really a great building block towards that full marathon. It not only builds your stamina and endurance for a long run, but it gives you the MENTAL confidence that you can indeed do the BIG BANANA!

I so agree with you that its not about speed for me either. Heck, I'm 50 .. I ain't gonna NEVER get any medal for SPEED! But that's not it at all .. its the accomplishment, the thrill, the exhiliaration of crossing that finish line and knowing "I DID IT" .. you will have the medal to remind you that you indeed FINISHED IT and no one can ever take away the pride that goes with that!!

Let me know how you like the drink! I've found it cheapest at my Super Walmart (1.98 a 16 oz can). Plenty of fuel in one can to get you through a marathon!

Keep up the great work! And take some rest days!

I ran for 1 hour 40 minutes went 8.25 miles I didn't do 12 cause I can't fit it in today so this will ahve to be good. I also did intervals the entire time 2 minutes at 5MPH and 30 seconds at 7 MPH it was really hard the last 30 minutes I was Pooped.

Interval training is wonderful. That's where your speed really improves.

              Great job Sarah & Rich!!

Way to go Sarah and Rich!

Sarah, I've been doing interval training and hills also to help improve my speed, I can totally relate to how you feel at the end of it.

Betty-I have been looking for the SF Sobe and haven't found it yet. Not even our super WalMart had it. I'll keep looking or maybe for an alternative I sent Sobe a note asking where it's sold in the area where I live.

Tonight I'm going to try to put in 6 miles, I'm a little nervous because of Saturday so we'll see how it goes. Wish me luck!

A little over 3.5 miles for me yesterday... and it felt GOOD!

I was only able to run once on vacation, so it was nice to get back into the swing of things!

Hey Just finished 4 miles in 45 minutes it was a brutal run I was going from 5.5 to 7.5 MPH in intervals. It makes the run go soo much faster this way YAY me.

Spring is officially here but I wouldn't say the weather is "spring" like here in Vermont. It has only gotten up to about 35 degrees or so. I did get outside for a run yesterday - completed 4 miles. It felt so good - I thinkg I could have run for another 4 miles! I guess I would rather run when it is this cool out instead of the 80 degrees you have Betty. If I wasn't out running, I would say bring on the 80 degree weather!

It's supposed to get really nice here towards the weekend WOOHOO but we have a foot of snow so the roads are gunna be like slush buckets maybe it will evaporate enough by the time Hubbies days off hit I can do a 13 outside that would be awesome. It's 4 laps on my Circut if I can do that I know I am ready WOOHOO.
