I did the Conkwell Killer yesterday, this is a 8.3 mile race cross country and road. Really well organised and there was a samba band playing to encourage people to keep going. The marshalls were great and so supportive. The "killer" bit came in at the 5 mile mark. It was a climb up a muddy / rocky slope which no one could run. Even the winner could only manage to power walk up it. It was quite literally a "killer".
My only vent was the "goody bag" at the end of the race. We paid £10 to enter (roughly US$19). WHich is quite expensive for a 8 mile race. Anyway, on the entry form it said we would get a goody bag. It didnt say what would be in there, but when I received mine, it had a 500ml bottle of water and a packet of cheese flavoured crisps (chips). and then a couple of advertising leaflets. (hardly £10 worth). And not exactly healthy either. The water was ok but I ended up giving the crisps to someone else.
Race went ok, I finished in front of about 7 people which is always a goal of mine, (to not be last and beat atleast one other male). I finished in 1:28:50 - which is quite a slow time, but that major hill was always going to mean it was a slow one.
