    I have recently added weight training to my cardio. It's time to kick things into high gear for me! I am doing cardio every day for an hour. I am doing circuit inbetween the treadmill, elliptical, and bike. This morning was 35 minutes on the elliptical, 15 minutes on the bike, and 10 minutes on the treadmill.

    I am researching more about overtraining. I have the notion that as a beginner I may injury or tire myself out without proper rest, but it is not the same as overtraining. I am thinking of going to three days on, one day off, two days on, one day off. That would be five days a week. I also do full body. I will isolate the muscle groups in a month or two, but for now I need to get used to using the muscle in my entire body, some of which I never knew existed.

      Dorr, welcome to the thread. I have had great success in the past with strength training and cardio. I think you'll be very happy with your results.

      Today I ran 1 FULL MILE! WOOOHOO GO ME and then I walked 1 full mile back on my lunch hour.

        I'm with you this year! I need to change my body and I'm gonna have to pick up some weights to do it.
        I just have 1 set of 2.5kg plastic cheapies.
        I envy the people with bowflex, those weights are incredible, but so pricy here. They were $1000nz in the store the other day. Still , maybe next christmas? I'll post later when I've done my work out.

        30 mins cycle, did 1 min intervals of high intensity after the first tem minutes. Went up to level 3 on the hard bits.
        weights
        2 sets, 20 reps
        chest press
        chest flys
        shoulder press
        back fly
        biceps curl
        triceps kickback
        squats
        deadlifts
        walking lunges

        Everything is feeling slightly sore.

          muffles, I started out with cheap weights from Walmart. Fact of the matter is, you can use canned goods and gallons of water just as easily...anything that makes you WORK. Welcome to the thread.

            Okie, Im in. I will give it my best. I am going to the Y tonight for both cardio and strength. Im not sure what Ill be doing, but Ill write it all down so I wont forget.

              Tonight I ran 5K in 40 minutes, then another 1K
              3 sets 20 of walking lunges--my butt muscles are already cramping...I'm gonna be one sore chica tomorrow.

                  1 hour of Body ppump and 20 min of walking on the treadmill !!!

                  WOW.............my muscles are so sore this am! I packed the weight on for squats and chest press YIKES I already feel strong.

                  I am amazed at how fast my body changes from weight training has anyone else noticed this too???

                    muffles, way to go! I love interval training, I do it with running and on the elliptical.

                    Jo--sounds like you had a good workout. Yes, I notice that you get quick VISIBLE results with the weights. That's why I like them. HOWEVER my scale doesn't cooperate.

                      I did 55 minutes cardio between the eliptical and the bike. I am having the intro thing tonight so I can start using the weights. I CANNOT wait to get moving on this again! thanks Sarah for starting this thread!!

                          5kg weights ,2sets of ten (or to exhaustion...)
                          chest press
                          chest flys
                          shoulder press
                          back fly
                          biceps curl
                          triceps kickback
                          squats
                          deadlifts
                          walking lunges
                          ballet plie
                          crunches
                          side crunches

                          everything is feeling it. THe 5kg weights are my dhs, I think I'll keep on using them as much as possible. I need bigger muscles to burn off the fat! I found I could only get to 7 for the shoulder presses and not at all for the triceps curl...ouch!

                            muffles, great workout! I always break up my workouts into upper body and lower body that way everything isn't always sore at the same time.

                            I'm certainly feeling both my upper body and lower tonight. Tonight is a rest night...I did 5K at lunch, so I feel kind of like I should be doing something...but I already did and I don't want to burn out.

                              Great Job everyobe these 14 hour days are killing me but I have 4 days off comming up my plan is to work out all 4 days then I will work my stint it's a weird schedual but, I have to do it this way. I will be working out on averave of 4-5 days a week still so that's good.

                              I am SOOO PROUD of everyone way to go. I won't be on a ton since I am working nights right now but, I will be on briefly here and there.
