  • Weird Treadmill Question

    We just bought a new treadmill - it's my first time using one. I started on Monday and I'm walking a mile two times a day but I plan on stepping it up on Sunday.

    The problem is that I have to hold the handles all the time which isn't very comfortable. If I don't hold them, Iwalk kinda funny and I'm not balanced. It's almost like being a little tipsy.

    My husband, on the other hand, gets on and walks without holding anything.

    What's wrong with me? Am I just an uncoordinated clutz?

    Maybe you're going too fast? Try going at a slower speed, one that's easier to maintain balanced. Soon your balance and strength should improve...I was the same way on the elliptical when I first started--I always thought I was going to fall off! It just takes some getting used to.

      Thank you. Nice to know that someone else had the same problems. I just thought I was a total clutz and maybe shouldn't even be on the thing in case I fell down and couldn't get back up LOL

      It's almost like being slightly drunk or like being on a boat for the first time. It's moving in one direction and I'm moving in another. Thankfully I haven't been nauseated by the whole thing!

      I actually love it and enjoy using it so I'm hoping the balance problem will go away as my hands get very sweaty from having to hold the handles all the time.

        Your balance will improve and also I agree you are probably going to fast as of yet. But it'll come and you'll do great before you know it you'll be walking without holding on at a faster speed.

        Great job on the exercise.

          I'm the same way. I thought it was just me as in some circles I am known to be a clutz
