  • Cycling the Tour De France!

Well, I've just posted on another thread about walking, and mentioned our British weather!!! (We do...apparently it's a British thing!!!) Walking in the sunshine like we have here today is great, but in the torrential rain - not quite so appealing.

Anyway they have just mentioned the Tour De France on the radio, so I have decided I am going to cycle it. Well, OK, actually I'm going to do the distance on my stationary exercise bike, indoors, over a period of time!

Just looked it up, and the distance for 2008 is just under 2175 miles. Over 6 months that works out to about 84 miles a week, over 12 months about 42 miles a week. I'm going to allow myself the year, as I am determined to get this weight off, and be healthy, so I'll be in it for the long haul. If I do it in less than a year then all the better. At the moment 42 miles a week is much more realistic for me... but who knows?

I am house sitting for a friend until Friday, so I'll probably start at the week-end, once I get home and have dragged the bike out and changed it from a clothes hanger to an exercise bike again. They do make good clothes hangers don't they?

    Anyone want to come?

that sounds like a great idea! I really wish I could keep track of my distance/speed on my bike. I have a street bike, that is propped on one of those things that makes them stationary, and i change resistance by using the gears. So unlike a stationary bike, it doesn't have the digital guages to tell me my distance/speed/calories burned. If anyone knows a way to figure it out, that would be awesome. At this point, i don't know if I'm cycling 1 mile or 10.

Get a cycle computer with a rear wheel mounting bracket.
The whole family uses products from this manufacturer:
      Cateye - Cc-mt400 - Mity 8
although we usually don't ride much on trainers. I get in close to 2,000 miles a year out on the roads near home.

          Hi 'Carbless'

Sorry haven't replied - haven't had internet access for a few days. Am back at home now, and the bike is ready to go (well, not 'go' exactly as it will be stationary LOL) tomorrow. Thought I would start on August 1st - have just been doing plenty of gardening this week instead - to catch up after being away for a month.

Has your cycle computer arrived yet - so you can count your miles?
