Awesome job, Sarah! So glad you are back to running again! Don't worry about speed .. it ain't about that ... :nono its about building stamina and endurance, especially after being sick! TAKE IT SLOW!!

Super, Piasabird!! That's great that you were able to get out there and go the distance! I know that wind is tough .. it was so windy here last Monday, I practically blew away ... at 94 pounds it doesn't take much!! :yikes

I finished 8 miles today ... which is great because I exceeded my March goal!! My goal was to go 100 miles and I actually finished at 111.5!!! WOOHOO!!

The legs are tired, but otherwise, I feel fantastic! I burned 812 calories according to my HRM. Stayed in the zone fairly well, for over an hour 15 minutes. It was warmer today, but not too humid. I sweat off about 2 pounds!! (Never fear, dinner is the shrimp special at Red Lobster and yes, I will eat dessert!) :joy

    GREAT JOB EVERYONE!!

Ran only 1.5 miles this morning. But I did manage 4.5 miles on my bike after work tonight. DH didn't come with me, and I messed up the route, so I ended up with PLENTY of hills. Ended up getting dumped on about 3/4 of the way through from a down pour that literally came out of nowhere.

      Burned about 350 cals today.

WTG April!! 1.5 miles is terrific! REALLY!!! And riding 4.5 miles on a bike is even better! Cross training is outstanding!! You got a terrific workout!! WTG!!

Oh boy can I relate to those 'out of nowhere downpours!!' :yikes I got hit with one the other day at the 5 mile mark ... too far from home to make it before it started..............I was drenched, but you know what ... I didn't sweat!! :guns

        Keep up the great work!

Thanks Betty. I only rode my bike about 1/2 or less of our usual route. Can't wait until the weather is better and I can see how far we normally ride. I didn't have my odometer thing last year.

Ran 3 miles today outside in the wind. Somehow AGAINST the wind both ways :confused Not sure how that worked out.

I did my nordic trak workout on Mon morning, Tues night and Wed morning, but today I was back to running at 5AM yahooo!!

I love running at dawn in the spring cause the birds make so much noise. I can hear them through my player. I did my normal 4 mile loop, worked on speed a bit , and since I was feeling really strong I missed my driveway and did another loop around the block to add on 1.5 miles. I was out for just over an hour, running the entire way.

It was 38 when I started and 44 when I came in---needed the mittens and hat the entire time too. Soon, soon I'll be able to leave the jacket at home and switch to shorts. It is nice weather to run in since I never feel too hot. I hate feeling hot.

Thank you, piasabird, for posting your rest day. That's a topic people need to hear. REST DAYS ARE VERY IMPORTANT.

When I first started running, I ran everyday ... NOT SMART. But I was an enthusiastic runner who wanted the "most bang for the buck", so I did it ... Well, let me tell you, the purpose of REST DAYS is to allow those muscle tears that happen when you run time to HEAL.......... VERY IMPORTANT if you want to avoid injury and keep increasing miles....

Now, I only run 4 days a week and try to rest every other day. I now think of my rest days as my REFUELING DAY ... which, when you think about it, is exactly what is happening. You are giving your body a chance to recharge itself for the next workout. VERY VERY IMPORTANT.

                    Thanks again for posting that.

I'm not too sure what's going on but, it's almost like exercise well running is easier then it was before I got sick. I don't know it's strange. I jogged for 42 minutes and went 3 miles. I upped the speed the last 7 minutes so that I was actually working cause it felt like I really wasn't. I guess it's good I am back to myself and am actually able to run longer then before. I am thinking the allergy meds have something to do with this my airways must be more open.

Well I have gone 5.2 miles this week so far feeling pretty darn good about it.

Sarah, when you are sick, your body is often dehydrated and once you are healthy again and rehydrated, you're able to go farther and longer (and easier!)

So glad you are back to feeling good and doing an awesome job with the running!!

                          Well done, you guys!!
Sarah, that's awesome, but careful not to get carried away if you're still not feeling quite up to par. I'm glad your allergy meds are working...I used to live in a very polluted mill town and I know all about environmental asthma and feeling crappy 24/7. (as a matter of fact, I'm heading back there on the 20th of April for a week, and I've already started taking allergy meds so I've got some defences set up)

Today after work I'm going to stop at one of the distance signs on the trail I run, write it all down, go home, and calculate what I've been doing for distance so I have some real numbers.
I think I'm only doing about a mile, maybe a bit more, but considering I started running just a month ago, I'm pretty pleased with that.

I had an awesome run this morning, and got treated to a lovely rainbow and am now on a 'goodmorning!' basis with some of the other trail regulars. I've been doing some stretches before and after, and it seems my shin splints are easing off. I think Betty's suggestion to watch how I'm landing on my foot probably had a whole lot to do with that as well, because I'm constantly making sure I'm running properly.

I'm really lucky I have never had shin splints no matter how heavy I am when I start running. You don't need to worry Moochie I am alway careful about my health and I am feeling 100% now so no worries. I am thinking all the weights on my legs are really helping with my endurance I am so much stronger now. I was given a med specifically for Exercise induced Asthma and Boy I can't believe I went without it. LOL I feel like a new person here. Even whe I was exercising like crazy it was like It was hard now it feels so much easier. I guess when your lungs are functioning properly that is a major nthing. My body is getting so much stonger as well.

It is runnin day off today so I will check back tomorrow after my jog tell you all haw it goes.

Betty, is it ok that I up the speed the last few minutes?? I have heard it's a good exercise to do. What exactly does that do to your running does it make it easier in the long run??

Well, I guess I'm going to jump in with this! I just finished the first week of couch to 5k program. Its hard trying keep it slow, but I really REALLY don't want shin splints! My route is 1.5 miles and today it was raining... but its always raining in oregon, so what am I complaining about?

One great thing is that I bought a new running jacket from adidas and it has a special mp3 player pocket in the inside! Awesome. I can't excersize without it and now I don't have to hold it, and it doesn't bounce around or anything

I love my MP3 player I couldn't run without it it's awesome, and I love listening to toons keeps me going. In no time you'll be jogging with the rest of us take it easy work up slow and you will get there don't increase milage more then 10% per weeek don't want injuries. I'm sure Betty will add to this she is the running queen but, all the stuff I know I learned a lot from her and runners world LOL.
