    Re: Heavy, heavy fat

Very True Neutron Man what you are describing below is what is referred to as the Anabolic Diet. When i do it I prefer to carb load every 4th day, and go back to fats and proteins untill day 4 again.

You will have the carbs to train hard, gain mass and lose weight at the same time.

Before I ever entered ketosis. I was on the 1 hour diet. I would have only protein and fat for 23 hours of the day and 1 hour a day i would carb load. I took off my first 30 lbs that way.

Once I am back down to 38 inch pants from these 42 I will pretty much go itno permant 1 hour diet. But I will carb load with the most nutritios food I can get in my gut for one hour. Not low caloire like lettus but spincich, sweet potatoes, beans, Brown Rice etc. I will alos allow mt self 1 hour a week for beer and junk food. But only after my leg day.

Akso Dan Duchain in his dirty dieting book wrote some great articles on way to maniulate the ketogenic diet.

[QUOTE=I'm sure the high fat diet maximizes growth hormone and testosterone release, and yes, it works the same way in women. The problem with ketogenic diets is that insulin is not used as an anabolic tool. Insulin is a highly anabolic hormone. Shoot me for this one, but I believe that 2-3 weeks on an initial high fat / low carb diet followed by 12-48 hours of anything goes (pizza, pasta, beer, cereal, pastries, etc.) increase fat loss, drives amino acids and glycogen into the liver and muscles and enhances an anabolic response. Proceed with another 5 days plus of high fat / low carb and then carb up again for 1-2 days every week. .[/QUOTE]

Please keep in mind when you post this is not a bodybuilding board, it is a weight loss support board. Body building advice isn't really relevant to 98% of the people on this board.

Tom, this boards owner has a weight lifting and fitness board, it maybe more suitable for this time of discussion

          Re: Heavy, heavy fat

How it is not related? If more people on this board would get to the gym they would see the results they are seeking. I worked at Bally Total fitness for years, and I am proud to say I have seen many, many people lose all the weight they wanted and held their head high and proud as they looked better than they ever imagined with the combination of Ketosis, Cardio and resistance.

I am in ketosis right now. the gym opens at 10:00 am and I will be in doing cardio for one hour. I am still FAT and I will change that.

Also this is a Body Building board, this is just the first basic step. Are you not reshaping your body, to a figure that is appeasing to you. Is that not the first goal. We all learn to crawl before we learn to walk. Body Building is not just bulking up with huge muscles.

Is not diet and exercise a life long commitment for everyone on this board?

If it is not well they should quit right now as they are doomed to balloon up again. I am no exception.

Also if you do not lift and try to keep some of your muscle, than all of the loose skin will flap in the wind. Do you want that to happen to the people on this board? I do not. I want all of them to have the body they crave. Diet is a HUGH part of that. But the exercise and expecially resitantce exercise is vitally important. Our bodies are designed to lift objects not sit on our butts.

Have you ever imagined how much muscle an obese person has just to carry around that extra weight every day? They have an incredible foundation under the fat. Incredible strength. Imagine the workout on the muscle to carry around 300 plus lbs. Could you carry that weight at all? They can. I see the positive under their belly. I am helping them to see their hidden treasure as well. I truly care for these people as I have been their up and down my whole life. And I know they feel alone, But I will help make them strong.

Lets suppose you lose 150 lbs, Every time you stand up or sit down before it was the same as you squatting 150 lbs when you were obese. Imagine if you kept that strength, you kept that muscle. What would you appearance be like?

            Re: Heavy, heavy fat

            Lurch, you nailed it again.

When the obese person, who is carrying 100+ lb starts dieting, they technically end up in a worse physical situation than they were because of the amount of muscle they lose. They think if they drop to an 'ideal' weight they are going to look aesthetically pleasing and healthy. The problem is that their bodies have been carrying the extra weight and when they lose the pounds, they are losing the resistive load they were carrying around. Coupled with the rapid weight loss, they can end up fatter than what they were, if you ratio in the lean mass vs. the fat percentage than they were before. A lot of them end up looking like mini versions of themselves. They might be able to fit into their size 8 dresses or size 36's jeans in the case of a man, but their bodies will be devoid of definition and still have unappealing pockets of fat around their bodies.

It's bad enough they restrict there calories thus wrecking their metabolisms and losing whatever muscle they had. They hit the gym thinking they will preserve muscle but Lurch, you know that in order to maintain muscle and lose fat is almost impossible unless you cycle androgens and growth hormone. From my experience throughout the years, it's best to keep your calories above your basal metabolic rate and burn the excess through exercise. I would rather gain a few ounces of muscle weekly and lose a half a pound of fat per week . In the long run, you will look great.

I followed this weekend what we talked about the last few days Lurch and my body weight has increase to 235 lb. I'm 6' tall. Instead of crying I quickly got my Accu-measure calipers out and my body fat % is the same! I feel bigger, stronger and more poweful than ever since I started Atkins. The feeling of fulness in my arms is highly satisfying.

I know that genetics plays an important part in obesity, but Lurch, at max, the role is about 20%. The other factors are diet, exercise and enviroment. I visited you 'Church of Lurch' site and I bet many male dieters would give their left chilbearers to look like you or me now.

Good luck to you bud, tomorrow at 6o a.m I'm squatting and dead lifting.

              Re: Heavy, heavy fat

This board is more of a "body restoration" board, in that, many people here are trying to restore their physical fitness and health: they aren't renovating or reconstructing their bodies. Most of them are here because they primarily want to lower their cholesterol, they want to fit into that pair of jeans, they want to be able to play with their children/grandchildren without losing their breath, etc., not because they want to have muscular biceps 40 inches diameter or to be a contestant in a body building competition or be world-class atheletes or bench press 150 pounds.

It's great that you all have your health and that you are busy renovating your bodies into muscle fortresses. But please keep in mind that the majority of the folks here don't have the same goals and motivations as you do now, or ever.

And while it's good that you are encouraging our members to push themselves. I think you are also pushing some members away because you all have shared methods that are physically and mentally unrealistic for them. As I wrote in Norman's thread, if I were a newbie and I read all the exercise you all do I would have quit because I could barely climb a flight of stairs let alone run miles, do hundred of reps of exercise multiple times a day. So why would I, a physical wreck, be able to get the same or similar results you all have?

The goals of losing weight, lowering cholesterol, fitting into a pair of jeans, being able to walk up a flight of stairs can be achieved without extreme exercise regimens or miscellaneous pharmacologic agents. Many of us here are proof that it can be achieved thusly.

So please keep these things in mind.

I use that as a warm up set before I go heavy...seriously, though, you are right. Our enthusiasm for the iron game sometimes makes us a**es.
