Just finished my 8 miles in 75 degree, 84% humidity, wind of about 30 mph. Talk about a workout. I am beat and sweating in places I didn't know I had! :yikes (Did ya know you have sweat glands in your kneecaps?

I stopped for a drink of water on the way home cuz I never would have made it otherwise............ I burned 757 calories and was out of my target zone alot due to the heat/humidity/wind. Not much you can do at that point but suck it up and finish it.

Gonna be a long hot summer!! :yes

Well the good news is, I hit the 70,000 calorie mark on my HRM today .. that's the calories I've burned running since last May ... 20 POUNDS WORTH! NOW THAT'S EXCITING! :joy

SO I went downstairs to just walk and though I really was tired and didn't want to I walked for 15 minutes then I jogged very slow for 35 minutes I went 2.4 miles I know far cry from before but I did it. I still feel really tired but, I did it and I feel proud just thought I would let you all know.

:icondance Great job Sarah, I am so proud of you. I know you are going through a tough time right now but it is good that you are sticking with the exercise.

Betty, so what exactly happens when you run outside of target zone. When I walked yesterday I noticed several times that I was up over 80%. Are you just building muscle at that point or are you fat urning still. It's weird because staying in my target zone didn't feel like I was pushing at all.

I squeezed in an extra run last night and wished I hadn't - I had my first heckle :anger Three men seemed to find it amusing that anyone could run so slowly. Personally, I found it amusing that it took three grown men and a lorry to put a horse in an exercise cart - I always managed single-handed and drove the horse to where it was going *without* the help of a lorry :nod

It shook me up a little, but I guess mostly 'cos I'm easily shaken, and I kept this morning's run short, but I guess the rain lashing down on me this morning might have influenced me a bit, too

Rest day tomorrow - uncle sitting for day!

Susan, when you are out of your target zone, you are not burning fat ... to effectively burn fat, you simply must go SLOW and for LONGER PERIODS .. Yes, I understand you feel like you're not pushing hard enough, but that's where going LONGER will do the trick.

Believe me, to stay in my fat burning zone, I swear I could WALK faster than I'm running. But after about an hour at that slow pace, you can feel the burn and you'll know you are burning the fat.

I do incorporate spurts of speed into my runs, just to shake things up a little. It takes me out of my target zone, but for short intervals, there's no harm done. In fact, it can be beneficial to slowly increase your lactic acid threshhold .. just don't stay in the anaerobic zone very long. Build it up gradually, then ease off and slow it down again.

When I do my long sustained run on Saturdays (10+ miles) I try to stay in my fat burning zone the entire time. Yeah, it takes forever and I feel like I could crawl faster, but it really is a great way to burn fat.

Just finished my 6.2 miler .. its hot out there! I was out of my target zone quite a bit, but I didn't care cuz this was more of a speed training day .. I didn't beat my best time, but came close, so I'm happy.

Rest day tomorrow, then the long hauler (10 mi) on Saturday morning. Gotta get up early .. its getting to be summer!

                Happy trails everyone!

I'm back, and I did really well for exercise on my week away!

My first morning at my sister's place, I got up before everyone else and took their dog along with me on my run. We had a great time and I ran mostly on dirt road and grass. OH BOY did I ever feel it the next day. I don't think I ran as far as I usually do (gee it's hard to tell with no watch on and a different route) but I got a good sweat on, and it felt great.

My clean runners got absolutely caked with dew, dirt, grass and these little stickies off of the trees...lol...but no biggie.

I did this a few days, and then on the day before I left I ran the trail that goes around the town, a 5k, and I've never ran that far before! It was great even though I felt slow as a turtle, and even felt like I was running backwards at some points..lol

I also did many walks with my sister's dog, and I walked into town and back a few times...so lots of walking.

This morning I ran my route, and added to it, although I'm still not doing 5 k yet...closer to 4 k now though, and it'll be 5 soon. :yes

Anyway, good trip, lots of exercise, and lots of good times with friends and family.

I just finished my 10.24 mile route 15 minutes faster than last week! :yikes I couldn't believe it .. I felt good and strong even up to the end! (whassup with dat?) :guns I burned 962 calories, so I believe there's a steak in my future............... Stayed in my zone the entire time. :joy

Dang, I still can't believe this old broad can run that far and live to tell about it! The humidity was awful, but this *is* Florida after all ... and many more humid months left this year, so I'd better adjust. I drank two huge glasses of iced tea before I left home and took two water bottles with me and stopped to refill one of them once during the route. Staying hydrated sure helps!!

I still gotta get me one of those canteen thingies....

                      Happy running trails!

I am starting to feel so much better WOW amazing what a little shot will do. I am feeling stronger and more vibrant again unlike I have in the last 6 weeks. I am so greatful to atkins caue I am sure if I wasn't on it my energy level would have been 100X lower and I would have relly got sick. I still have quite a bit of nausea but it seems to be getting better and also my fatigue seems to be lifting a bit now. Thnak goodness the Doctor caught this early he said it was in the beginning stages and my B12 was just a bit low but he said if I had waited to go in until I felt really bad I would probably be having some more sever symptoms like neurological which is scarey to me.

                        THANK GOD.

I hope to be back to running soon now that I feel I am on the mend. I have quite a few shots to go through in the next few week I have to go back I think once every 2 days or something like that for the first week the 2 times a week for 2 weeks then once a month.

I am so glad I am back and I wasn't just going nuts.

Thank you all for your support and patience with me I appreciate very kind work while I have not been well.

                        Thanks

Whoa...Sarah! I must've missed your post about what the doctor diagnosed you with! Was it your thyroid?
BTW, wow, what a difference in your pictures...good job, girl!!

I felt good and strong even up to the end! (whassup with dat?)
Betty, I was talking with a few people back home about running and it's a comfort to know that I'm not the only one thinking I'm dragging my *** around on an iron sled sometimes....lol
My run here the other morning was like how you described...wish they could all be like that!!

Moochie! That's a great analogy...the iron sled! Ya know, I've noticed when there's a full moon, I REALLY STRUGGLE........every step feels like torture....so maybe there's something to that lunar effect??

Yesterday was just a breeze! (albeit a humid one!) Thank God I was out there yesterday and not today, cuz its oppressively humid today! Great day to rest and recover!!

Thanks Moochie I have Hashimotos thyroiditis well probably for the last 4 years but I have been doing fine with my meds do the doc was not worried about that. The thyroid actually checked out ok all my levels are good. The one that threw him off was that I have low B12 levels and I guess what that is called Pernicious anemia. Basically it takes a while to develop up to or more then 2 years and is caused by the autoimmune Hasmishos thyroid. I have antibotis and I am not sure what really happens but, I can't absorb B12. My doc was saying how great it was that I was on the Atkins cause it certainly made me feel better for longer and actually prevented a lot of the horride symptoms you get with it. I had a few of the symptoms like fatigue and numb hands and feet also dificulty with exercise cause the body doesn't transport oxygen as well I also didn't notice till it was pointed out to me that my eyes were yellow and also my palms were yellow. That's what tipped the doc off.

I am getting injections to build up the b12 in my body then go from there it will be a bit of a bump in the rad but, he assures me I will feel more like myself in a week or so as my levels increase. YAY.

I am going to Jog tomorrow slow see how it goes I feel so much more vibrant and my husband has even noticed a difference WOW fast work hey.

Take care all I'll be here in full force in no time.
