  • Cool Running for the Week of May 8, 2005

Happy Mother's Day to all of you Moms!! Isn't it great being in top shape for your family?? And working on getting even better!! :icondance Now *that's* the best gift I can think of to give to those you love and who love you!!

I'll be heading out soon for my 10 or 11 miles. Didn't run yesterday since I had a friend visiting from Alabama and we met up at Disneyworld on Friday and yesterday. Did alot of walking, but we all know Betty doesn't consider meandering "EXERCISE!!" :nono :nono :nono

Anyway, hope you're all enjoying a beautiful Mother's Day today!! Never take your mothers or your children for granted .. life is fragile and you JUST NEVER KNOW!

Moochie, to answer your question, I run every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday typically ... 8, 8, 6.2 & 10.24 miles respectively. That's gonna change soon though cuz my work schedule is gonna get more hectic, so I think I'll be running on my lunch hour at work with a friend who is just starting back into running. We'll have a route designed around the office complex which will probably start at 2.5 miles a day (until she gets up to speed, pardon the pun) and do it every day during the week. That will still give me 12.5 miles during the week and of course my long distance run on Saturdays. Shouldn't be too bad, considering we're getting into the HEAT of the summer months.

Sadie, that's funny about a "B" cup and the saggies .. Hon, believe me, as a fellow "B"er, its not the size that makes 'em sag .. ITS THAT DAGGONED GRAVITATIONAL PULL!! :anger :anger I'm glad to see you're gonna be running more, that's TERRIFIC!

Okay, time to hit the pavement! Sure hope my new shoes get here this week .. I'm up to 230 miles on these!! :yikes

    Have a great day everyone!

    Durn it, I messed up!

For some reason I was thinking that our weeks started on Mondays. :confused So, I didn't make my little goal of 4 days of exercise last week. So, I guess that leaves me with trying to complete it for this week! :yes

    Happy Mother's Day!

Hi all, no walking today. I spent most of the day (eight hours doing yard work. We planted 10 baby trees and 7 shrubs. Also shoveled an bunch of rock and dirt. It may not be intentional exercise but it was definitely exercise. Tomorrow I will be working on getting 6 miles in.

Remind me never to miss a Saturday run, so that I don't have to run Sunday & Monday, OK?? :yikes

Yesterday, 11 miles. Today, 8 more. Total calories burned in two days: 1,695. Yes, I feel 49 today!

Off day tomorrow and that's a BLESSING! :nod

Betty, you are awesome! :clapping I hope you rest well.

I got my bike on the rack and got to the trail. I only got to ride for 20 mintues when the sky grew ominous and it started to thunder. I headed back to the car and loaded up.

So, not such a good work out today ..... but there's always tomorrow.

Thanks, sweets! Man, I hit the cold water in the bathtub soon as I got home and it really *does* help. I strongly recommend it when you feel alot of pain in your joints after a hard workout.

So glad you heeded the signs and headed for shelter ... hon, we don't want you struck by lightning!

We really have to watch it here in the summer ... oh man, do we have lightning here!! :yikes Tampa is the lightning capital of the United States .. a title well-earned! You won't find me running if the sky is dark!!

                  Great Job today guys!

It was very sunny here today. With my sunburn I really did not want to go out side and walk :no So I came home and played video games for two hours. Now I don't have the time and energy to do anything else. :nono

Hehehe, the video game was Dance Dance Revolution! :icondance :icondance :icondance :icondance :icondance :icondance :icondance :icondance :icondance :icondance :icondance :icondance :icondance :icondance :icondance :icondance :icondance Ever played it anyone? It's a really good workout. My DH and I raised the ambient room temperature by about 5 degrees at least(thermostat is in the same room as the playstation) So anyway I did get my workout in today, and I did not have to subject myself to the pain of placing my newly burned arms out in the sun today. I guess I change up my physical activity a lot. Hopefully that works for my body.

Betty, bf just heard on tv that Florida was the lightning center of the universe and he got all excited...the guy loves thunder and lightning...lol..so clean up your spare room, we're coming to visit!

I did my run this morning...oh Lordloveaduck, but it was a rollercoaster of TOM cramps and...er...potty cramps! :yikes
I never gave in though, and fought through it, ran the whole route, but had to forego cooldown stretches in my dash for the bathroom.

I think that's the a big advantage of having a treadmill in your home or a gym, that you have a bathroom right near you!

Well I ran this morning..my first early morning run ever! I'm usually an afternoon/nighttime runner, but I've heard there are so many benefits to running in the a.m. I figure i'm gonna have to drag my but out of bed till I get used to it!

Was only a 20 min run this a.m, but I did it! At 6:45! LOL. Hopefully in 2 or 3 weeks i'll be back up to 30. It really doesn't pay to get lazy about your running, it really does catch up with you. I've learned the hard way!

Was supposed to start my running again yesterday but I too was too sore from yardwork (raked an acre of lawn at the cottage man was i sore)

Hehehe, the video game was Dance Dance Revolution! Ever played it anyone? It's a really good workout. My DH and I raised the ambient room temperature by about 5 degrees at least(thermostat is in the same room as the playstation)
I've heard of DDR and that's it's great. I have an Xbox game called 'Yourself Fitness' that's a virtual personal trainer named Maya that takes you thru aerobics/pilates etc. You can choose what type of exercise you'd like and what intensity. It's available for PS2 and PC as well. Got mine on Ebay for $27 usd. I love it!

Moochiecat, I sympathize with you. I like to do my walking in a park that has restroom facilities even though they're not the best. Anyway, I went walking somewhere else one day and wouldn't you know it ...... that's when it hit me. Let me just say that I went from walking to running that day! :yikes

We have one of those Dance Revolution things in the rec. center where I work. I tried it once and I was horrible! I didn't know that they had one for the home.

                          Bike ride today ........

PBird- yeah the one for home you get these mats and the game has a tutorial and beginner mode as well as a workout mode along with the harder levels. It's awesome and once you go through the tutorial you get it. i still dance in beginner mode but I am definitely getting better. We have DDR max 2 and we love it.

READY FOR YA!!! :nod The rainy season begins June 1 and let me tell ya, everyday is the same .. clear mornings, partly cloudy at noon, mostly cloudy at 3 and FLASH AND CRASH at 5-6, dies down about 8, quiet overnight...next day, same thing. You need not wear a watch, just keep an eye to the sky. Its the most incredibly predictable thing you will ever see. This keeps up roughly until mid-August at which we keep an eye on the tropics to see what 'canes are in our future. Hopefully nothing this year like last year when Floridians were hit not once, twice, thrice, but FOUR times in a 6 WEEK PERIOD!! NO MORE OF THAT!! :nono :nono
The weird thing is, there is NEVER lightning in a hurricane ... NEVER. That strikes me as really strange ...

As for running and "drainage issues" ... oh man, can I relate. Is there anything worse than being 5 miles from the nearest bathroom and your lunch hits your bowel?? Then your run turns into the battle of the sphincter muscle ... I have TESTED mine to the limit many times!! Last Saturday, thank heavens, a doctor's office was open about noon cuz I was 3 miles from the nearest potty and would NEVER have made it...

I'm thinking before the half marathon, I will be investing in some DEPENDS. :yes And perhaps a dose or two of Immodium AD. :yes :yes
