Don't worry - I won't pack it away till I've bored you all to tears with race-day tales and piccies of the new t-shirt!
I NEVER GET BORED HEARING ABOUT RACE RESULTS/DETAILS!!! I can't wait to hear everything!!

I ran 4.2 miles today at noon with the Club .. most of them did only 2 miles, but considering its hot and humid out there, they're coming along nicely. I have every confidence that they will continue to improve as we go!! Its fun to run together!! Anyway, I'm going to do another 4 miles this afternoon around the neighborhood (hoping gator is somewhere far far away from my route today!!) which will give me 8.2 for today. A good day's work.

We're all doing great!! :icondance :icondance :icondance

I've been MIA from this thread for about a month, basically because I hadn't done any running.

Well I worked from home today and to kick my running back into gear I did my 5 mile route, needless to say I wanted to quit before the first 1/2 mile was up but I didn't...at all. I ran (slow loping stride) most of the way with some jogging mixed in when I was cramping a bit (was breathing a little wrong, went away) and on some of the hills. BUT I had my best 2.5 split at 25:08 (prior best 26:14) AND had my best time ever of 50:41. I really thought I was gonna break 50 minutes because I was at 45 with 1/2 mile to go, but I had nothing left. My homecoming kick was probably funny to watch.

Now to relax, and enjoy my birthday present tonight, a hot rock massage.

Just a sidenote, wow do good running shoes make all the difference in the world.
        Jim

Welcome back to running, Jim!! What an excellent accomplishment!! WOW!!

          Now, keep it up!!

I ran 6 miles at noon with the running club from work. Only 2 of us made it the 6 miles, the rest did anywhere from a mile to 3. Which is a very good first week!!

Its hitting 90 degrees these days, so obviously, I'm out of my target zone alot, but that's to be expected for the next several months!! Sweatin' like a pig too!!

Off day for me tomorrow, then the 5k at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday!!

          Great work, everyone!

            Distance: 32.703

Went riding this afternoon with the bf. We had a very enjoyable time and even stopped for a little lunch after 20 miles. His odometer read alittle over 33 miles, but I'll go ahead and go by mine.

            Have fun everybody! :joy

OK so I have been chastised by the exercise goddess. I am back. I have been exercising just not walking or your typical stuff. I am addicted to Dance Dance revolution. I know I need to get back to walking and I plan on doing that this weekend, but I will report that yesterday I spent abut 2 hours playing DDR.

I ran 5 miles again this morning. Probably not my smartest move after running 5 yesterday. It was very cool when I started and my quads were not agreeing with me. I ended up having to walk a few times because of stiches I couldn't breath out. But that said I was only a minute off my best pace (yesterdays) at the split and only 2 and change off at the finish, for a time of 53:03.

I started getting a touch of discomfort above my left knee on the home stretch so I walked a bit of the last mile. I figured no injuries and I'll live to run another day. Better to have a slower time than not be able to run again.

I think I didn't stretch my quads enough before the run, especially after yesterday.

                      But I feel good.

I live in Illinois, near St. Louis, MO. We have several trails for bikers, walkers, rollerbladers that use to be railroad tracks and we never have to come close to a car most of the time. There are some sections that do have bike lanes along the roads, but not a lot. No motorized vehicles are alowed on the trails, except for maintenance purposes. http://www.mcttrails.org/ This map looks slightly out of date to me and doesn't show where the different trails connect.

We even have some trails that hook up with trails in Missouri. My bf plotted out a route that takes us in roughly a 30 mile circle. Of course there are several ways to add mileage to that by taking some little side trails. There are so many posibilities. They are still working on our trails and adding new ones.

There are several rest stops and water fountains along the routes. We don't have many steep hills but there are quite a few big hills that have a gradual upward slope. Most of the scenery is pretty nice. There is a nice lake to ride by where you can look off in the distance and see the huge buidings of downtown St. Louis and the Arch. Perhaps I'll take some pics and post them here in the near future.

To me this is one of the best things our area has ever done for us tax payers. But I might be slightly bias. :nod

Betty, one good thing about cycling ...... even when it's hot out, you've always got a breeze. :joy

                            Hey Jim!

It's cool that you're motivated but we don't want to see you get injured. I tried pushing myself two days in a row and I thought I was going to hurl the second day! I don't think I'll do that two days in a row again.

I'd eventually like to get into running but I'm just going to have to lose more weight first. With the impact it seems too hard on my joints. So, I'll stick with a good brisk walk and bike riding for awhile.

Good to see you in here again!

That sounds like a wonderful place to bike. We have a few trails around here, but they're sorta disjointed at the moment ... a work in progress. Eventually, when they're finished, they will go some 60 miles up the west coast of FL which will be nice. Frankly, with this crazy traffic, I think riding in the bike lanes on major arteries is a death wish, so trails are by far the safest.

You're so right about the breeze thing!! Good resistence factor too!!

                              Keep up the great work!!

That's why I only pushed so hard. The discomfort I started to feel thankfully wasn't in my knee but just above it, more at the base of the quad and it was definitely muscular. But I knew this weekend was gonna be tough to get a run in so I pushed for one this morning.

At 290 plus I know what the impact can do to the joints. Real good running shoes are helping tremendously, as well as proper form. Besides where I'm at 5 miles is under an hour of cardio as I get faster I'm gonna have to add mileage. I can't even imaging what I may be doing when I'm 70-90 lbs lighter. We'll see.
