  • Crazy as it seems, but would this be a good call?

Got myself thinking, what if I were to diet a week, each having one nutrient restricted respectively? Allow me to break it down: Something along the lines of
    Week 1 - Carb Restriction
    Week 2 - Fat Restriction
Week 3 - Some other fad diet
and whatever else you can think of, and so on

Reading about leptin and refeeds as such got me thinking, what if I cycled between various kinds of diets rapidy over short periods. As soon as Week 1 ends, and we're into eating a good amount of carbs and cutting back on eating fat which was eaten moderately on week 1, would this help "trick" the body into raising metabolism as soon as it wants to lower it? As soon as it realises that it's not getting enough carbs, it suddenly is and the fat that it was receiving well, is depleting gradaully, and as it catches onto that, it's suddenly has enough again. Then we move onto another diet and so goes.

    Any comments, concerns?

Oh yes. Far from it. My apologies as I thought this was a board related to general health chat. But hey, there's no harm in thinking outside the box now, is there?

it was just a comment. you asked for comments. this is a health forum but the board is an atkins board. and since you are doing 14 day induction i thought your post was intereting. that's all. just a comment .

In my opinion, drastic changes to the body too often are destructive. I think there are many valid methods of losing weight, I think it is best to choose one and go with it. Work with that method to get past the plateaus and stalls, and exercise to trick metabolism into action again.
Admitting...on April 2010 I have been eating low carb for almost 7 years and the lowest I got to was 145. These last couple of years though I got lazy, and over the course of time, gained back up to almost 170. I am back on induction, a week into it now on 4/22/10, doing excellent and seeing results. Once again, my weight goal is 140.

I just don't have the heart to change the stats below, except I am NOW 46yrs.

you would be throwing your body in and out of ketosis and I don't think that would be good for you.

Here's my thought -- you know the weakness you are feeling right now in your workouts. Think of that on a continual basis as your body attempts to handle the major dietary changes each week. You may lose weight as your body attempts to handle what you are throwing at it, but I would doubt your performance would stay as high. The other thought is it is a "trick" or weightloss scheme as opposed to a WOL. I lost weight to keep it off forever - not just to prove I could lose by hook or by crook.

The leptin depletion is a side effect of massive amounts of working out..... and I am not talking exercise... we are talking bodybuilders. The refeed is something intense bodybuilders follow and it does work for them. The claim is that leptin is depleted after following a said way of eating and intense work outs for an extended period of time. Key word I think would be extended. So, I think this would pretty much blow your theory out of the water. It is not a "cycle over a short period of time".

don't fporget it take different exmymes and carrier molecules for those changeing energy sourses to get used too so you'd have a blah period in every week as you change the production line of needed chems.

Pick one and follow it giving it sufficient time to work. As Dr Atkins tells us in chapter 11 Q and A any plan where claories burned from all sources exceeds caloric intake will result in weight loss. He just believed the metabolic advantage ( takes more cals to convert fatsand proteins to energy from mouth to ATP molucle then it does carbohydrates)

hmm .. thank you for your input. So far everyone I've shared this thought with, has said it wasn't a very good idea. All, except for a close friend who has decided to take this death sentence. I'll keep the results and intake/exercise routine done in the first week posted, for anyone that maybe interested.
