I actually really like diet ginger ale. Its delicious and not sweet. BUT, I still don't feel that its good for us or a diet product.

Yep I agree... diet vanilla coke is yummy! Diet cherry vanilla Dr. Pepper is even better! Mmmmmm!!!
I think that diet soda's are ok in moderation... they're not exactly good for you but I think it's a nice treat... I'm trying to stay away from diet soda while I'm still on induction though....
And when the occasion calls for it - diet coke goes perfectly w/ Captain Morgan!!! .... After induction of course...

                Re: Diet Cola's

I said no, we have enough restrictions. As has been mentioned previously, YMMV with some of these things. DANDR tells us to take it under advisement and I think that's what most people do. I rarely drink pop anyway, but every now and then I get the urge. And different things will stall different people. Sour cream doesn't do me any favours yet it's on the acceptable list. But I agree, there is no nutritive value to it. Mind you, I think the same can be said for celery. lol

I said "no" because dangit, I like having my diet 7-up (with splenda!) twice a month or so LOL

Besides, I don't think people should change the rules because "they" think they should be changed. Dr. Atkins knew what he was doing.

                      Re: Diet Cola's

I agree that diet soda is not good for you, but this is my feelings. I am a diet coke junkie I guess you could say. I have been drinking a 2 liter bottle a day for years. I am currently drinking the diet coke with splenda but I do believe I will look into sodas that do not have the phosporic acid, but I will be honest, I drink between 3 to 5 liters of water a day and I put a lot of ice in my cup with the soda, even if it is not good for me, right now, it is keeping me happily on plan. I do think it is something I should eliminate at some point, but for now, I need it to keep me going. I do not use any other artifical sweetners, I currently eat very clean with no low carb desserts or goodies at all. The diet soda is the only thing I consume that is in that category. If the soda keeps me on track, and helps me get my weight off, why would I mess with it ?? I do not drink or smoke and never have, diet coke is the only bad habit I have ever had, other than eating badly before I started my low carb. I feel if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I have lost six pounds in the last ten days, and the last few days I have lost a pound a day.
It should just be what you want to do. If you do not want to drink it, don't, and if you do and it does not cause you any problems, drink it. It can be a goal to get rid of one day if you want it to be, but if you love it that much, you could have a worse problem than diet soda.
This is just my opinion of course, but that is how I feel about it !!! Stephie

I understand what your saying Stephie, but I also wonder how much more you would lose if you didn't put those nasty chemicals into your body. Induction is a time to clean ourselves of all the bad food habits that we have, mine is coffee, I have two cups every morning and don't talk to me if I don't. But I know its a problem with me and I know that I need to deal with it ONLY because its an addition that I need to address.

                          Re: Diet Cola's

I do not disagree with you, diet soda is not great for you. But I honestly want to know, how many people saying not to drink soda are using low carb goodies , making low carb desserts, or eating low carb breads.
I am eating only pure unprocessed meat( no sausages or hot dogs or lunch meat or pepperoni or so forth), except for ground beef and turkey if you consider than processed and bacon because I do eat that, eggs, veggies, and that is it. I do NOT eat any dairy at all, or any kind of low carb treat. When I eat it is eggs, meat or veggies. That is all. I feel having my diet soda is my treat. I would love to someday give it up, but right now, no way. I drink four or more liters of water a day, plus a lot of ice in my soda. My diet is excellent and very clean other than the soda, so for now, I will keep it in my plan, eventually, yep, I would like to phase it out. But I will be honest, I am losing a pound a day right now, can't ask for more than that and I feel great !!
I did not do induction, I just started doing what I am still doing, just eating the pure foods and stopped dairy. I feel it is a trigger food for me and it is working as I have absolutely no cravings for anything this time around. It has been an easy 11 days so I am thrilled. I did switch from diet dr pepper to diet coke with splenda to eliminate the aspartame.
Well, I really do appreciate the great advice and eventually I will get there, but for now, it is my only bad habit !! Stephie

Amen! It's probably more unhealthy to be overweight than it is to drink siome diet soda once in awhile.

                              Re: Diet Cola's

Wow, after reading some new posts tonight, I realize some new things. If I am fighting to keep my diet soda so hard, it must not be good for me. This is what I am going to do. I am going to start when I get up tomorrow and drink exactly half of what I normally drink. Once I adjust to that in a couple of days, I will half it again until I am off of it completely. I just cannot handle the caffiene withdrawel that cold turkey causes. I have three bottle left and over the next week or so , I am going to wean myself off the soda.
I still believe that the soda is not a huge deal when everything else is good, but the sheer fact that I fight it and defend it puts me off. I do not want any food to have that kind of hold on me. It will not be easy. I have not gone without my soda for at least ten years. I know I did not always drink it, so I know I can live without it.
One step at a time. Thanks for the push !!! Stephie

Stephie I like your views actually. I mean I am used to drinking about 2 - 3 cans of Diet Coke per day..... I know it is probably bad of me. I also know I can't drink anymore than that.

I think all in all it isn't the most healthy thing to put into one's system.

But good on ya if you feel the need to cut back by half, I guess only you know your self the best!
