    Re: Diet Cola's

Stephie, I just bought a can of coke because I am cleaning my crystal and was told its good for the inside. It just can't be good for you. I am glad your going to try to drop it from your menu and at least see how you feel about it in a few days.

      Re: Diet Cola's

It is funny, now that I have made the decision to lose the soda, I got up this morning and made my breakfast, filled my water bottle for my first liter and made a cup of diet coke. It tasted way too sweet to me today. That has never happened before. I think my body is trying to tell me I am right to dump it. The only reason I am taking a week is I get the worst headaches and fatique, I cannot keep my eyes open when I go through caffiene withdrawel, so if I take a few days, it will help lesson that quite a bit to a manageable level.
I am glad to be going off of it, it is expensive and I KNOW it is not good for me, but we are good at defending what we want to do. I am losing a pound a day right now and I doubt losing the soda will up that, but I do know it will help me to feel better overall. That is the entire point of changing my eating, to be healthy,so why use a product that is so not healthy. I needed it the first two weeks to get me going and now I am ready to let go of it.
That is scary that it cleans crystal. Yikes. I think my body will thank me for this !!! Stephie

        Re: Diet Cola's

Coca-Cola does contain small amounts of citric acid and phosphoric acid; however, all the insinuations about the dangers these acids might pose to people who drink Coca-Cola ignore a simple concept familiar to any first-year chemistry student: concentration. Coca-Cola contains less citric acid than orange juice does, and the concentration of phosphoric acid in Coke is far too small (a mere 11 to 13 grams per gallon of syrup, or about 0.20 to 0.30 per cent of the total formula) to dissolve a steak, a tooth, or a nail overnight. (Much of the item will dissolve eventually, but after a day or two you'll still have most of the tooth, a whole nail, and one very soggy t-bone.)

Besides, the gastric acid in your stomach is much stronger than any of the acids in Coca-Cola, so the Coca-Cola is harmless.

Wow, that is very interesting. I am not sure I ever believed it would desolve a tooth, but I had read more than once it can hurt your bones by leaching calicium, that is what I worry about with the soda, but still even that I was not sure I believed even that. I have drank it for close to twenty years and have had no problems with it. I still feel it is not healthy and would still like to try to get it out of my diet, but wow, it is a relief to know all of that is not true, thanks !!! Stephie

I think anything in moderation is fine, including coke, but I also know that it can be addititve. You can't tell me that someone who drinks 24 cans a day isn't addited to the stuff. I am not sure its the coke or the bubbles, as I had one friend who would do alkaselcer if she didn't have coke in the house.

              Re: Diet Cola's

hey I had a 24 can a day habit but I didn't do the alkaseltzer thing yuck.

I gave mine up cause i read the research on the caffeine in it and the aspartame avail at that time there was no Splenda sweetend diet coke.
I can say the headache in induction day 2 was so bad i almost stopped but day 4 arrived and the headache was gone and that bleesed energy boost from ketosis kicked in and I realy felt different things were so calm and everybody laughed but I felt euphoric and called it my Atkins high.

Booklady you hit the nail on the head if you are fighting so hard to keep it you are addicted. forget about the other chems in it just the caffein alone should be enough to give it up. Caffeine stimulates insulin production and as you know from reading your DANDR insulin is the thing we most need to be controlled in our bodies. DIdiyou know the fat burning hormone and insulin are produced in a negative feedback loop so when you are stimulating your insulin production with your Splendasweetened diet coke your fats are being stored not burned cause insulin is looking for sugar not fat and it is telling the liver I need more fuel too so our livers are working overtime make glucose from the protweins and carbohydrate backbone of the already fractured fats and the byproducts of the sugars we already burned. I don't know about you but when I'm eating 65% fats in my food intake I sure as heck don't want the drink I'm having causing it to be stored until that insulin is used up.

In that case, give me caffeine free diet cola and I'll add in my own vanilla! And, just wondering, if all that's true ..... how does cleo lose 14 pounds in 4 days and she admits having a diet coke addiction? How does she lose that much weight while consuming the colas?
I am not sure its the coke or the bubbles, as I had one friend who would do alkaselcer if she didn't have coke in the house.
Ewww ..... Lynne! That just isn't RIGHT! I couldn't imagine doing that.

remember when CLeo did that she was full of glycogen stores and she had just cut her carbs from a high carb diet to a low carb diet so in effect she was a 230+ pound woman starting atkins as a virgin low carber would and remember she has a very low metabolic resistance. whoosh out goes the fluid stored with the glycogen and it is in a ration of 1 gram of glycogen to 3 grams of water.

When I did my first cheat on my Atkins after almost 700 days cheat free I added 14 pounds in less the 5 days and was misreble. No way did I consume 49,000 more calories then I burned in those 4 days i was out of control but i did restore my glycogen reserves with thier added water and when i finally did get my Atkins restarted those pounds vanishe din a few days and ketosis was once again mine.

                          Re: Diet Cola's

I used to drink diet soda all of the time. But, the reality is, Nutra Sweet ( and I am willing to guess sooner or later splenda ) is reported to be one of the largest complained about food ingredients for reverse reactions to the FDA each year. NutraSweet has shown to have many adverse side effects and splenda does as well. A diet shouldn't be just about weight loss, but about health, and nothing about these two items is healthy.

Don't know about desolving a whole tooth but last go round with Atkins I live on the Diet Mountain Dew. When I went in for a l year cleaning and check up at the dentist I had 14 cavities. Have not had a diet carbonated type drink since then, will stick with my ice tea.

PS)I do hear that the citrus type drinks are worse than the colas in this regard.

The reason I try to stay clear of any soda is simply this, If I drink anything else then I don't want to drink my water which is a must. So I stick to my water and then if worst comes to worst and I would also go with a Sprite Zero. I was stuck on diet Coke for years and you see how far it has gotten me as my starting weight was 285 lbs.

Soda is just not healthy in the first place. i think if it is a crave inducer than the person should avoid it at least during induction and owl. It's the whole cheat or treat controversy. Some people can handle it and some can't. I personally don't like diet soda. I also think that some of the ingredients are inherently addiction forming.
