Hey all. As some of you know from my journal. I've been having tonsil/sore throat issues since aug. I am scheduled to have them removed in a couple of weeks. (FINALLY) it's bittersweet. I know it's going to be painful. I've heard its a lot worse the older you are (lucky me).

Anyone gone through this during this WOE? with ideas? she said I'll be on a liquid diet for quite a while (a week or so?). I am not even sure I'll feel like cooking and I am the primary cook in this house sooo I am afraid of what I'll end up eating or...not eating.

    Re: tonsillectomy

I wasn't on this woe when I had mine, but I would say get some jello and a blender for everything else. Make your foods bland so that it doesn't hurt your throat. Drink lots and lots of water. I felt that the longer I went without drinking something, the more it hurt the next time I drank or tried to eat something.
And my blender was my best friend. Everything went in there. Soup, chicken, steak, veggies...you name it, I blended it.
Another thing is, don't eat ice cream or other dairy products. It makes your spit really thick and makes you produce more phlem and trying to expell it can be very painful.

And lastly, take your pain pills, you'll need them

i had mine out at about 19, it wasnt as bad as i expected and the one thing they wouldnt let me have was blended food...

they made me eat toast and cornflakes - apparently to scrape away dried blood to present heammorage (sp)

good luck to you, i hope its not too painful!

Too many popsicles will make your surgery area irritated as well...at least that's how I felt.

thanks everyone. I've noticed most of the things you guys ate or suggested aren't low carb. Do you think they'll make me eat a bunch of junk for a week or so. I really hope not.

You could make your own popsicles out of sugar free something like.... um.... crystal light for instance... and diet jello with cream cheese blended into the jello... and.... ummm..... what else?????
soup... you can make your own or buy low carb canned.... and blender food... everything does go in the blender...
Good luck! Hope everything comes out okay! (sorry, bad pun!)

                    Re: tonsillectomy

ah my 2 year old came down with some nasty virus. Fever, sore throat, swollen glands, cough so I had to take him to the doctor and get him on antibiotics so I can get him well before I get down myself.

                    Isn't life soo.... hard sometimes.

Thanks all. I got a lot of paperwork about the surgery in the mail today. I'm a little scared now.

                      Re: tonsillectomy

My surgery is tomorrow. I just found out yesterday they are also taking my adenoids. Glad they told me before they did it. lol

I'm scared...the "possible" adverse side effects sound horrible and life threatening and I didn't really like the part in the contract I had to sign that said. The dr is not responsible for lost teeth during surgery.

                      Now I'm really scared.

They've had me not take my vitamins or supplements for 2 weeks and I have definitely felt the differnce. I think some of them were helping with appetite control or maybe it's the "stress" of knowing whats to come thats made me not the best with food. I'm also very anemic and take lots of iron and haven't had that.

I haven't went haywire but I've definitely been eating a bunch of stuff. Usually too much of the legal stuff as well.
I'm so scared about not being able to eat for a few days to a week or more. That I want to stuff as much in me today as possible and I'm a major water drinker and I can't have ANY food or water after midnight tonight. First thing in the AM I always reach for my water. Its gonna be so hard.

Wish me luck and prayers because I'll need both.

Prayers you got.. I heard such horror stories right before my daughters surgery too.. I actually called the nurse to cancel the surgery.. She talked to me for over an hour on the phone and told me how sick Brittany had been and it was THE best surgery for her.. she has been so much healthier since then..

                        Pray for a quick recovery

I have to agree with Sandy, I feel much better now that I don't have my tonsils. I'm much more healthy. I used to get severe tonsilitis.
I normally eat more before a surgery because I know I won't be eating for hours and hours and hours.
Anyway, I hope you feel better today and I'll keep you in my prayers
