  • Atkins & Gastritis?

I re-started with Atkins before Christmas, but soon had to stop again, as I became ill again. I've been suffering from Gastritis for a few weeks now and find it very difficult to eat anything fatty or meat as well as veggies, especially salads. Anyone here does have some advice for me what kind of foods I can eat in order to cut the carbs out of my diet again, which are mild enough for my delicate stomach?

    Thanks.

Yes Fish I can eat and now Chicken as well. Beef is still very delicate. I haven't tried Tofu. Cooked Veggies are okay as well, but raw veggies, especially salads are still a no go which makes it challenging.

Yes, I'd go with fish... lightly poached. Cooked veggies. How are you with eggs? I find poached eggs, or boiled eggs easy on the digestion, but some don't.
Hope you feel better very soon.

              Re: Atkins & Gastritis?

I ate the first eggs in weeks today. I made an omlett, so far no problems although it was on the border of beeing to greasy. I think I'll eat boiled eggs tomorrow instead.
              Thank you

                  Re: Atkins & Gastritis?

Yeah...! I'm back on Atkins. Back in Induction Phase. Took me a while to get back into it and it was quite a struggle too. But this time it seems to work, I seem to stick. I started to re-read the book again... works miracles on my determination. Today is day 4 on induction.... I feel tired... but good.

                        Re: Atkins & Gastritis?

I haven't gone to the Dr. yet but I have been having really bad stomach aches, best to describe it is a sour stomach. I researched my problems and it seems that I suffer from gastritis. I have the gas, bloating stomach, burning in my chest (thank god it wasn't a heart attack).

I can still do atkins but I'm gonna have to go about a different way of doing it. The high fat and high salt content is what's really killing my stomach. I may have to modify the diet but I can stick with the core concepts of the diet.

Sorry to hear about your gastritis MB. You might well find that after a spell on the "core concepts" of Atkins, this will get better and you'll be able to cope with the higher fat again.

                            Re: Atkins & Gastritis?

well I went to the doc today and it's exactly what I got. I told him I was on atkins and although he didn't knock the diet he did say that it was what made my gastritis (had it before just didn't realise it) bad because it takes stomach longer to digest meat and all that protien thus creating more stomach acid and inflaming everything more.

so for the next few weeks I'll be rockin it out with no flavor or wonderful seasoning and salt. Can't even eat brocili or cauliflour... I'll basically be eating poached eggs, rice, unsalted crackers and applesauce. Hopefully this will heal everything up so I can get my life back to normal. Stinks that I have to but It's better to sacrifice diet for a few weeks that have stomach problems for the rest of my life.

Hi Makingbiscuts... I know exactly how you feel and what you go through. I found that potatoes were also easy on my stomach, just like cooked carrots. Also, Milk is a natural anti-acid. And once you start introducing more foods, start with poultry and light fish - wait with beef, veal and pork until you are well again. I also recommend to skip coffee and any kind of soda. It's tough... but you'll feel better soon. Take care.
