Interesting. I think this news was all over today. Maybe it will lead to more studies. I did not have a chance to see the actual percentages of their "low carb - high protein diet"
    Anybody know?

I don't know. I also wonder - did they eat vegetables? I would like to see more information on this. At least this article, if missing details, doesn't seem to have any glaring errors/misinformation in it, unlike so many others

Liv, they put the mice on three different diets. A typical mouse diet (65% carbohydrate, 15% fat, 20% protein), a typical "Western" diet (43% carbohydrate, 42% fat, 15% protein) and a low-carbohydrate, high-protein diet (12% carbohydrate, 43% fat, 45% protein).

I just printed the study and I'll read it tonight.

Oh, and I hope no one having a rough time with their WOE plans going off Atkins today because of this study. Take some time to read the study first and then make an informed decision. You need an hour to read the whole paper and your low-carb woe won't do you any harm in that one hour.

What a shock!! Mice do best on a mouse diet. I would love to know if the carbohydrates in the typical mouse diet are the refined carbs we humans eat so liberally.

Oh, thank you, Georgiana! Seeing that headline nearly made me freak and go running for the bread and potatoes! After 14 months on this WOE, losing weight in a very good way and feeling better than I did in my 40s all that time. Yeh, right. Nobody is taking this awesome way of living away from me, no worries.

When I saw this thread I thought it's spam and ran here quickly to ban someone.

Erin, I'm not sure if it's the ice cream season or what, but lately everyone seems to freak out about low carb diets. I think I finally understand what Obama meant by "wee-weed up".

Well, I have yet to understand Obama, but I do understand why people have the need to put down success in others. I think it is related to what Sarina experienced as her success with this WOE became more apparent ... people turning against her, putting her down, making cutting remarks about what she is doing.

What I don't understand is why they don't realize how much better off they would be if they spent that time and energy actually making improvements rather than attempting to tear down that which has done so much good for so many.

Honest medical and scientific studies should be received and evaluated by all.

This board would be failing if honest dissent was not reported and discussed.

I perfectly agree. Still working to read the study though... Somehow I keep finding more interesting things to do.

Did you (or anyone else) finish reading it?

I haven't looked at it yet, but I will. I'm anxious to hear your take on it though, G. You're so smart... I will appreciate the "translation".
