Jimmie if adding potassium lowered your BP discuss it with your doc cause you may need more and a very simple blood test will tell him what your level is and also your sodium. Many low carbers can use the low sodium salts if they are a shaker to get more potassium too.
Oh and about those wet the bed grens if you check you will se there are many foods already in induction and OWL tht are natural diurectics too along wiht the 30% protein level of Atkins. ( see and everybody wondered why 30%)
If you have problems getting it to come up, I'll copy and paste for you.
I've noticed lately that my potassium is really low too even with eating more potassium-rich foods, so I'm supplementing also and am feeling much better.
If you don't like FitDay to track your intake, you can try DietPower. There is a free 30-day trial at www.dietpower.comand it is very easy to use. You can use it for a week or two just to see how you are doing.
oh my, i had posted this problem way back in january and when i had a decent reading i let everyone know! who know????/
b/p is good. in fact, the last night i checked it i was double digit, both numbers. if i recall it was 97/63. good enough for me!!!
usually i run about 114/65 or something like that, give or take a digit.
i don't do the potassium. i did, but i'm good now and have been for quite some time.
i blame hormones, the move, and job insecurity because that is what was gong on back in january.

Jimmie, I DID miss that you made me member fot he day - a very belated thanks. I have a machine at home now and while it only a wrist cuff ne lets me keep an eye on it. Did you ever find any potassium supplements, just for interest? I've looked here in Oz too and never found any. There is some in my multi vit but not sure if it is enough.

analog6 look at the salt substitutes for your potassium they are loaded. in the US we have potassium OTC supplements availible at 3% of the needed for the day amount so you'd have to swallow an awful lot of those before you can make up much of a defiency.
A Nurse in Canada visited 16 pharmacies in Saskatoon, accompanied by four volunteers and an old-fashioned mercury column blood pressure measurement device.
Mercury is the gold standard for blood pressure measurement. Drug stores use electronic measurements. Two of the four volunteers were being treated for high blood pressure , two had normal blood pressure. The volunteers had their blood pressure monitored the old-fashioned way and the new. Here’s what Wilson found:
Store blood pressure machines tend to slightly overestimate blood pressure
To get an accurate reading, do three readings, each a minute or two apart – the third reading will be the most accurate
Sit down for a few quiet moments before using the machine
Don’t drink coffee or smoke for at least half an hour before using the machine
If it’s a cold day, take a little time to warm up
Don’t use the machine if you’ve just had a meal or have just been working out – your blood pressure will be lower than normal.
