Hypertension? Not me. Look at the figures in my signature.
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
      he said, 'Don't count calories.'

Re: who has hypertension raise your hand

I have been taking blood pressure medication since I was in my 20's. Doctors never could figure out what was causing it to be so high at such a young age. I am 45 now and I take 100mg of Metaprolol a day. I am hoping to get off this stuff.

Re: who has hypertension raise your hand

I do. I just turned 37, in February and again about a month and a week ago my BP was about 140/90 and I was put on a BP med. When my OB found out he changed it. I miscarried, but am still on the OB's perscribed med. I'd LOVE to lose weight and be able to stop taking the bp meds! It does run in my family, but I'm willing to bet losing even half way to goal may help me stop needing them.

          Good Luck!

Re: who has hypertension raise your hand

Several years ago, when I lived the LOC lifestyle with very little carbs, ever, all of my labs and stats were great! Now, not so much....
Let's hope my BP starts to head back to a normal range along with my vital stats!

Re: who has hypertension raise your hand

Blood pressure problems from the time I was 25, and am now 39. However, I am not confident (hopeful, yes) that the diet will lower my BP, as I was rather thin when I was first diagnosed. We will see...
I am on 3 meds right now, Exforage, Altace and a diuretic. (forget the name, pretty common one) I am hopeful I can switch to a less extreme regimen!

Re: who has hypertension raise your hand

Hi everyone... I am a HBP sufferer myself. I have been doing a lot of research on it along with my chiropractor.. he is also a biochemist so he knows the workings of the body! He gave me a blood test along with the rest of my family and we all have a gene that causes us to have HBP. My parents are both thin and my brother and I are heavy (so there may not necessarily always be a correlation between weight and HBP!) We are all on some sort of BP Medicine (my father and brother both on it since their 20's!!). My chiropractor has had us taking Arginine (an amino acid). It is found in the body naturally, but for those of us with the genetic predisposition, we do not utilize it properly. The arginine we take also has a folic acid in it (or folate) which helps the body relax the arteries so that blood can flow more freely. It is often prescribed for patients after a heart attack. Please, look it up on the internet and see the great things it can do. Also, pair it up with fish oil caplets.. they also help relax arteries. My dad is completely off his meds for the first time in almost 40 years. He does monitor his pressure daily with an Omron machine. It's worth looking into.. I am not off meds yet, but have got it under control so that i take mine every other day!
