No -- have to go out of town this week, so have moved my clinic appt to next Thursday, the 22nd. Have also persuaded DH (one of those social smokers who doesn't think he has a problem, or an addiction) to come with me, which am pretty excited about. I'll post again then.

Barb drinking extra water helped me. I know as Atkineers we already drink alot but it helps flush our system. DH drank thru a straw he said it satisified his need to suck/inhale

3rd day smoke free!!! Today was much better than yesterday! Could have something to do with Tom showing up today. Why I decided to do this when PMSing I have NO idea. But... so far so good!! I am worried about the scale, but we shall see. I really haven't been too bad with the snacking.

Thought I'd bump this up cause I just read an article about smoking and low carbing. If there weren't already enough reasons to quit, here's one more. Smoking (and I did it for 30 years, so I feel your pain) can affect the adrenal glands that are thought to be responsible for hormone production and regulations. Impaired adrenals can interrup the metabolism of carbs and the regulation of blood sugar making it more difficult to lose weight.

Another reason is the newest medical studies say second hand smoke is more dangerous then smoking so if you stop you will be not only saving your life but the life of friends and loved ones who you expose to those toxic fumes.

Okay, team... it's time to pony up. This is an old thread, so it begs the question: Who's quit, who's stayed quit, and who's looking for support in quitting?

Who me? I'm cold turkey quit for 8 days, 7 hours. Let's hear it for me! YAAAYYYYYY!!!!! I can't get too cocky, though... I've been here before... but I feel GREAT!!!

Anyone else out there want to Celebrate? Commisserate? Congradulate? Something-else-ate? Let's hear those success stories!

                              Hey Laker,

I'm quit now for 1 week, 2 days, 8 hours, 10 minutes, 47 seconds! Go me! Cold Turkey too. This is the first time I've 'quit' and made it more than about 3 hours! So far, so good!

I'm having a little struggle with some weight gain this week....*sigh* but I'm handling it, and it's starting to go back down again.

Laker and Valid... WAY TO GO!!!

Congrats on your quits. Just keep it up. Don't go back to your old ways ever again, please... I quit smoking after almost 25 years on January 5, 2006. On August 5th I will be 7 months free. I quit cold turkey and did end up gaining some weight (about 20 pounds) but that was before Atkins and I have now dropped almost all of that weight and will lose the rest. The only thing I regret about quitting smoking is that I didn't quit sooner. A dear lady who was a neighbor of ours recently died from lung cancer after having smoked for 45 years. I will never go back to that nasty habit again. I always thought those ciggies were the only things I could count on and I was wrong. I can count on myself and you ladies (and gents) have yourselves to count on too. I won't say I never think about smoking, but for the most part I go through weeks without even thinking about it. It does get much easier. I committed to replacing my smoking with exercise, so whenever I got the urge I would get on the treadmill or do something physical (and yes I still gained weight). The exercise helped me get past the cravings alot.

Sorry to go on so long, but I just wanted to lend some support and my own personal experience.

                                Keep up the great work!
