      Re: Addicted to Caffeine?

been a couple of days since anyone has come in here to report anything. bad thing? good thing? i dunno.

i am on track. no caffeine in the coffee. no chocolate ice cream.
i've been sticking with decaf and jack got me some peanut butter ice cream. it does have some chunks of chocolate in it but trust me, they are few and far between and i am sure can be no more that what a cup of decaf has.

      how is everyone else doing?

I have to confess... I had a Diet Dr. Pepper. (It was better than grabbing a cookie!)

yes it was better than the cookie.

i always figure if people don't post, they have done something naughty. lol

do you know what made you want the dr pepper? was it a craving? address that and you might discover something. either you need to deal with a craving or it was just plain a slip up, won't happen again..... at least until july! lol

lynn, good to see you! hope sbdb is going good for you! i don't know if anybody in here is losing or not. lauren gets here so seldom with her new job. we're all just trying to stay away from the large amounts of caffeine. lauren was doing like 9 cups of coffee a day. i jumped in to help and cheer her on.

It was a real craving. It was like I HAD to have it, pulled into the store and got my Diet Dr. Pepper (fountain drink, no ice). Six months ago I would have gotten the "hard stuff", no diet then. LOL !

But I'm satisfied for now and I'll go back to my water. I'm really drinking a lot of that too.... at least 10-12 glasses a day.

                Re: Addicted to Caffeine?

we are really hitting and missing in here. we have a little over a week to go. i'm good. no caffeine in the coffee and no chocolate ice cream. i am really bummed that breyers did not write me back.

christy, have you been able to figure out what triggered the craving? something hidden in your food? good girl for holding out and not going for the "hard" stuff!

i don't know how lauren and freckles are doing. seems ages since we have seen them.

well, keep strong and the month is almost over! maybe we'll see where our weaknesses are by then and it will be smooth sailing from here on out!

                  Re: Addicted to Caffeine?

Hello, My name is Lori and I'm an addict...

I'm drinking 8+ cups of coffee a day and I'm not talking demask cups, I'm talking OMG Mugs. I'm on day 3 of induction (STA) and have gone to half caf as of yesterday. I typically have a few cups in the am and a few in the evening. I've switched to decaf only in the evening because when I was doing atkins last year I got off most of the caffine WHOOO, talk about jitters and not being able to slept.

I'm quite sure that I will not give up coffee all together but I will get to just decaf only. I also drink Wal Mart brand Caffine Free Diet soda. I was just drinking one a day but since I've been laid off and home all day, the number has gone way up. I'm back down to one a day. Is that okay or is there still caffine in there? I am not much of a water drinker but am doing what I can.

Thank you for the invite Jimmie, I'll keep you posted on my progress.

I'm always trying to self-analyze myself so I don't know if this makes any sense or not. As I already told you guys, I'm an extremely emotional eater. And right now life seems to be an emotional roller coaster. I'm truly on the edge 24/7, stressed to the max.

The first thing I have always wanted to do is stuff food in my mouth to comfort myself - I'm struggling soooo much with that right now, I have to figure out how to stop that. But I think I'm trying a little bit... instead of grabbing the chocolate or fast food that I used to comfort myself with I'm getting diet Dr. Pepper. Maybe that's my way to still run to food or something for comfort, but at least try to stay halfway legal?

What do you think, Jimmie? Whatever it is... I need to figure out how to run to water instead of the soda, even though it's diet. I don't need it, and I especially don't need the caffeine. I hadn't had a bit for weeks, and this week I've had one every single day!

                    • Re: Addicted to Caffeine?

christy, i could tell you stories that would make us both cry. i hear what you are saying and understand more than you could know.

i was that way too. eat when i am happy and eat more when i was sad. i got large so you know i was unhappy most of the time. the fatter i got the more unhappy..... recongnize the roller coaster?

it's a learned habit i think. at least it was for me. you just keep plugging along and sooner or later you find things aren't such a struggle anymore. i have had things this year that have thrown me for a loop. moving north for one after 25 years. and some financial strains that make my grow white, literally. but one thing i realize and know for a fact, i could eat my way through a cake or have mom bake me my favorite cherry pie and i could eat it all. but that is not going to make this strain go away. i will only feel worse.

maybe when these craving hit instead of reaching for water, which is good any time, but between me and you and keep it quiet..... water doesn't always do the trick.

have you ever tried those seltzer carbonated flavored waters? check those out. i think you can find them in strawberry and peach and some other flavors and if i am not mistaken there are zero carbs, no caffeine and the walmart brand is really not too expensive. it might cure the crave better than water. now this is just between me and you. we don't want everybody going around saying jimmiejo said we could have it. this is for you and you alone. and me, cause i just made myself thirsty for one of those!

how about lemonade? do you like lemonade? how about ginger ale? i remember doing atkins back in 75 and ginger ale saved me quite a few times. i am not saying to do 3 or 4 of these a day, but when that craving hits and it won't be denied, find a nice quiet place and sip away.

and then theres the legal foods. are you like me? sometimes i just don't want to eat more mayo or a piece of meat. i know the fat thing and how it can help satisfy but sometimes it just isn't what i need. do you follow me?

knowing what triggers the cravings is half the battle, christy. what is they say, knowledge is power? tomorrow is a new day and i challenge you to get through it without any caffeine. are you up to it? maybe a month is too long, too distant. lets go day by day. can you do it? i have faith in you to say yes, you can!

*wipes the tears* I can do it, Jimmie. One day at a time. It seems so silly, it's diet for heavens sakes, it's not a milk shake. But it's got some power over me and I'm afraid it will get out of control with everything I eat.

I want sooo bad to just stuff my face right now with all the foods that comfort me, but I'm not going to do it. I've come too far now to blow this. Never in entire life have I been about to say I've lost 40 pounds, and I'm so close to being able to say "I lost 50 pounds!"

I was feeling so good about what I've accomplished so far and I let something knock me right back down to where I don't feel like I've done anything. I have to figure out how to dust myself off and keep going.

I bought some of those Crystal Light individual things to put in a bottle of water. Maybe that will help since I won't be making a whole gallon of it to drink. When I just have to have something besides water, I'll have one of those. And I'll pick up some of those flavored waters for an emergency too - the peach and raspberry ones are good. I'll get back to not having to have them at all soon too.

Thanks for being so understand and for all your encouragement. I couldn't do this alone.

you are your own best encourager, really. remember what you use to weigh? step on the scale and relish in the weight loss! stand and gaze at the number! i do! lol
40+ pounds gone!! that is so encouraging! you said it yourself how great it was to know how much you have lost and how far you have come. you do realize you are almost half way home with the loss, don't you? that has got to feel good! what an accomplishment for you!

don't let the things that you have no control over dictate what you eat or drink. don't give it the power.

i'll be off the board for a bit. i have to get some things done around here. messes are calling my name! but i'll be checking back in here a couple of times i am sure. i have to log my stuff but i will check this thread before all others.

                          be strong!

That's one of my downfalls, and I promise to work on it. So far so good.. I think this weekend may be an hour at a time thing, not a day at a time! My tummy is rumbling, I'm going to toss something on the grill soon.

And no caffeine... none even in the house... I would actually have to go someplace to get it! (Unfortunately, there is some in walking distance... be strong, be strong! )
