  • Stoping the smoke addiction

I guess this is the next step to a healthier me, I decided a day, 15 of April, why? just I felt that I needed first to get the habit of my new eating lifestyle and the new addiction to exercise so I wouldnt crave for food. I feel Im ready for this big step.

I have found new things to do instead of smoking, this are my substitutes:

    Breath deeply
    drink water
    dance
    clean something in the house
    yoga
    meditate
    draw
    paint
    gardening

Im not including chewing gum or eating something cause I dont want to continue the habit of having something in my mouth cause then the habit will be more dificult to overcome.

I will be posting once a week, each sunday.

I know the first 3 days are the most dificult cause its when the body gets the detox process, I have stop smoking before so I know how this works, I hope I can keep myself smoke free for the rest of my life, its also dificult cause my father smokes and most of my friends, but if I can stop eating carbs, I can do this also!

    Re: Stoping the smoke addiction

I used to smoke 20-30 cigarettes a day. I read a book called 'Alan Carr's easy way to give up smoking' and I gave up that very day without any cravings! My cousin's husband told me about it (he used to chain smoke and he quit). That was10 years ago and I am still a non-smoker! I recommended it to several people and they have all given up! I think it brain washes you! x

          Re: Stoping the smoke addiction

Rosa, here is a site that helped both me and my sister quit smoking

          www.whyquit.com

My sister had actually started her quit using Ciantix, but once I introduced her to whyquit.com, she ditched the Ciantix and quit cold turkey. Neither one of us has looked back. I'm approaching my two year anniversary!! WOOHOO!

Just remember. Never take another puff!

            Re: Stoping the smoke addiction

I started the book, and stop smoking yesterday in the night, I have feel ok, but I cant deny I have look at the empty box of cigarrettes and think of getting a new box, anyway I woke up really early, and I decided to clean everything, I took off the curtains, the bed sheets and started to wipe away the cigarrette odors from my entire house, I want my house to smell like it used to! clean and fresh! At least the cleaning is keeping me busy.

Right now I feel really tired, I guess is because I sleep late and got up early, so I didnt have enough sleep, or maybe is my brain trying to shut me down till the detox period passes hahaha

I'll check the webpage, Joy, thanks for the advice, I really want to get rid of this addiction.

                Hi Rosa,

Just wanted to say well done for making another healthy decision and good luck to you. Just focus on getting through the 3 days, and then (like most addictions) the hardest part is over.

I've heard great things about Alan Carr.

                  Re: Stoping the smoke addiction

I can notice when Im obssesed with cleaning when I clean the base of my phone and get a knife to reach the tiny parts to make it look like new hahaha

So this is day 3 or is it 2? well the thing is that Im in my house, I havent gone out cause I didnt want anybody to deal with my temper in this situation, I get all "logical" and want to convince the world Im right! hahaha pretty anoying.

My house is smelling much better, I am still reading the book and it does make you start to think of what smoking really is, so I hope to finish it soon to have a clean brain to match my clean house Zarabelle hehehe

Alexa thanks for the support, Im almost done with the 3 days, and starting to get the cough from the detoxication of the lungs, that is the ugly part of this, but the lungs have to get rid of all the dirt also. Hey! Im actually cleaning everything! I even made me a pedicure! hahahahaha

Feeling better each day! Thanks girls!

I used to think of an evil monster living inside me which needed smoke to survive! If I didn't feed it, it would die off!! Seemed to work... maybe I am mad?!

                      Re: Stoping the smoke addiction

Zarabelle, that's a good idea! I like that. I kind of think of my addiction to carbs the same way.

Rosa, you are almost done with your physical detox! Congratulations. In just 72 hours all the chemical addiciton to nicotine is GONE from your system. That chemical addiction can never control you again as long as you never take another puff!

Now, the next two weeks will be in kicking the emotional/mental addiction to the cigarrette. You can DO THIS! In just another 11 days, you will be cigarette free! I'm so happy for you.

Keep up the good work. Be strong!

You are not mad Zarabelle, just creative! hahaha I like that idea also...

Well today I went visit my parents, I needed to wash some sheets and curtains, and clothes that smell of tabaco... the thing is, that my dad smokes! and I pass the first test! I didnt felt tempted to smoke, well I did feel desperate to be smelling the smoke cause I wish I wouldnt smell it again, but I think my dad understood the situation cause he smoke a lot less than he is used to

Anyways, tomorrow I go to a friends house, Im sure Ive done it! I feel clean and I can see my skin thanking me for this... Im doing it also for this, I have read that tabaco damage the skin, not only from the face, but all the body skin, so that is another motivation.

Thanks for the support, this was as important to me as to continue with my new way of eating, this is my new way of life, healthy and free!

I will be counting the days! ValidRouge hehehe

                            Re: Stoping the smoke addiction

I chewed tobacco from 1983 to September 22, 2007 and I quit. I'll tell you my secret and maybe if you try it it'll work on you as well. I quit cold turkey when my 9 year old daughter asked me to quit and made me promise that I wouldnt chew tobacco again. So I am not going to let me little girl down and lie to her. Choice was pretty simple, lie to me daughter and she loses all trust and faith in me or stay true to me word and she'll respect and look up to me. That is my quiting story and my solution. I dont ever want to lie to my children. Even though I believe me wife put her up to it, it doesnt matter because she asked me to promise her. God Bless, Joe

Another day without the smoke, but spend half the day watching TV, it was my day off exercise, so I rested, but I didnt feel good, I felt something was mising, not the smoking, but more activity.

Thanks Joe, I dont have children but I have my inner child, Rosita, I have promise her to take care of us I am also doing it for the child I could some day have, if that is my destiny.

                              Have a great week, Rosa
