    Re: Calling all PCOSisters...

I'm sorry this is late...I've not been around lately, but I'm hoping you're all still here and doing really well! Those of you wanting to get pregnant, DON'T GIVE UP ON ATKINS!!! I'm living proof this WOE helps you achieve your dream! My little dream is a walking talking 2 1/2 year old! It took 2 years of eating mostly Atkins before my cycle regulated, and whammo... preggo! It may take less time for some of you with less hormonal imbalances, and longer for some others of you with worse, but its worth it to have a hope that doesn't involve drugs. JUST HANG IN THERE and work the plan day to day to day. Since I went off Atkins, just after my boy was born, I've put back on all the weight and stopped having cycles again completely. I've been on induction now 5 days, and this morning, out of the blue, I spotted. For whatever reason, CARBS EXACERBATE PCOS so we just have to stay away. Treat carbs like our own personal poison. I also know of several other gals who got pregnant, and you can see their stories in pregnancy and nursing on Atkins forum. Please ladies...don't give up! Even those of you not wanting babies. This really helps with your whole system...sometimes it just takes awhile. Just to show you what you're hoping for...here's some pics of my miracle!

HUGS TO YOU ALL!!!! KEEP THE FAITH!!!! DON'T GIVE UP!!!!

      Re: Calling all PCOSisters...

I have enjoyed reading through everyones posts and realizing there are so many women out there who are feeling the same things that I feel...I also have had PCOS since around year 2000, but it was MINOR...and actually never realized what it was (no doc ever told me about it) until I was officially diagnosed in 2007....seven years of slow weight gain, chin hair..yuk!!, and all the other lovely symptoms I finally had my answer...When I had my child in 2007 my PCOS symptoms got worse...MUCH worse...gaining 68lbs within 10 months...one month I gained 19lbs...It was so depressing...Atkins makes me feel SO much better..I dont feel tired all the time, I dont feel bloated, I dont feel just uncomfortable all the time...It only makes sense to me...PCOS doesnt digest sugar or starches properly, so why eat them?? We can do this ladies!!

        Re: Calling all PCOSisters...

        Hi everyone,

this is my very first post.... and I can't stop crying... I was diagnosed a couple of weeks ago. Now I know why I turned into what I am now. Sure its not only the PCOS, its me too and overeating. How do you deal with it?, I mean I've tried to hide the bold spots, got laser hair removal on my face many times. I think I can deal with that, but the idea of not having children... I didn't think about it before, I thought it was a given, just part of being a woman.

I guess I'll get used to it!, I am just sad today ... but tomorrow I will continue with my weight loss program.... thank you for letting me vent.

          Re: Calling all PCOSisters...

Hi alex I feel your pain. Being told that pcos was the reason all these crazy things were happening to me was hard. To hear you say that children are not an option for you is hard to hear. I firmly believe that it's not impossible, I have not and will not give up on being a mother. Pcos makes it hard to conceive, but not impossible. You are 27 go see an infertility specialist they can help there are doctors who specialize in pcos. The atkins diet helps you alot it can get you to ovulate more regularly. The excess sugar in your system is what makes you even more insulin resistent. Also I have noticed that while on this diet my excess hair growth has diminished dramatically. All I can say is dont give up give this diet a fair shot and you should see results. I hope all the best for you and God willing you will have your dream of being a mom come true.

            Re: Calling all PCOSisters...

I've been told many, many times that children aren't impossible. They are a non option for me for pcos + *other* probloems, but I have been told that if you are under 30, that fertility specalists and stuff can help and you can possibly have a kid.

(All this, from my endo whose research topic is PCOS. she treats a LOT of women with it).
            Just my .02

That said ghc - i'm glad it is not my imagination! I hav been on it 4 weeks and wondering where the terrible hair growth went. I have been on medication for it for a long time and it wasn't helping and suddenly i have not thought about it for a few weeks, went to look, and said...wait a second.....what? how is this not that bad?!

                Re: Calling all PCOSisters...

                Hi All,

I've been recently diagnosed w/PCOS as well. My husband and I were struggling w/infertility and when I turned 35 this past year my gyno recommended we see a specialist. After all the "fun" testing we finally found out about my PCOS.

I read a couple of post stating children are not an option? I'm curious of why? My doctor stated my eggs are still really good and healthy, that we just need to get my ovaries working. I was also diagnosed w/Pre-diabetes so I have to get the under control before starting any fertility meds. I'm happy to share that I've been on Atkins for 3 weeks and have lost 19 pounds! Off to good start! And my blood sugars are doing really good too!

I'm happy to find this group because I do not know anyone w/PCOS and none of the women in my family have it.

                Bridget
