This is going to sound stupid but I have a question for anyone who wants to answer. I have PCOS and have not been having regular periods. I went to the store last night and got 2 pregnancy tests. Both came back positive. Is there anything related to atkins that would make the tests come back positive if they really arent? I feel so bad because I did not check on this sooner if I am pregnany. I am only on level 3 of OWL and feel very sad that I will ruin all of my progress so far on Atkins. I was really starting to feel happy with my weight loss. I don't know whether to be happy because I never thought I would get pregnant with PCOS or sad because I won't be able to lose anymore weight. I am not even sure if the results are accurate on both tests. I am planning on buying two more of a different brand sometime to find out. Oh, I found out when I decided that I was going to drink for new years and wanted to be safe first. I figured they would come back negative and both ae a dark positive.

Re: Could I be pregnant?
I am pretty sure there is nothing in Atkins that would give you a false positive. Atkins always seems to make people more fertile.
Congratulations
You need to read up on the maintenance phase of Atkins now as thats where you should be.HW 303Aug '04 SW-287 LW-232Restart - Apr 07 - SW 266 CW 225

Re: Could I be pregnant?
I'd say you are pg. It's not common to get a false positive, much less 2. I ttc'ed for 7 years, I became a pro at those pg tests. I'd say congratulations are in order.30/F/5'6"

Re: Could I be pregnant?
Girl, you're pregnant. I took 4 tests when I found out I was pregnant just because docs told me I couldn't get pregnant without drugs (stage 4 of Endometriosis) - ha, proved them wrong! Oh, this is a blessing. Don't worry about your weight, like they said follow the maintenance of Atkins and you should be fine!! CONGRATULATIONS!!

Re: Could I be pregnant?
Congratulations!!!
Get stuck into maintenance and you'll be fine. So will your baby. Your body is gonna change so much anyway, and you have all the time in the world to get back to the losing phases after birth and nursing. Eat healthy and enjoy your pregnancy.

Re: Could I be pregnant?
Thanks everyone for all of your help. I did go out and buy two more tests of different brands and they both came out positive too. I didn't think that this would happen so soon after I started Atkin's. I guess I am just in shock right now and will feel better once it wears off. There are so many things that I have to plan now that it seems a little overwhelming. I am so afraid that I am going to gain the weight back. I hope not. I am going to set an appt with a Dr. sometime next week to see what I need to do and how many carbs he/she wants me to have while pregnant. I am excited, I just may not sound like it now. Thanks again everyone.

Re: Could I be pregnant?
Congratulations!!!!
Just a warning though - I have a friend with PCOS who had the hardest time getting pregnant. The first time. She now has 5 kids!!
You should spend a little time reading Iyshiaf's journal. Not only did she stick to maintainance while pregnant and gain very little excess weight, but she had the most adorable and gorgeous and healthy baby, Trinity. And is now losing again. Start around about here.
Here's wishing you and your baby all health and every happiness!Kate

Re: Could I be pregnant?
Congratulations! Well, for us PCOS'rs, getting pregnant on Atkins seems to be our wonderful "side effect"! I know how you feel; I lost 60 lbs when I first started and then another 45 and boom, got pregnant. I was in shock for days--actually til my first prenatal appointment! LOL! Then I was a little depressed and then kinda mad. I was doing so well and really on my way and felt that finally for once in my life, I was really gonna lose weight for good this time. And you know, that is normal and I felt a little guilty for feeling those feelings but I realize that it was okay and understandable. The thing about pregnancy is that most weight is temporary; what really depends is how you eat and behave after the baby is born. Breast feeding is a bonus because the baby will be eating all your extra calories and help you get rid of what you put on during pregnancy. I tried to do maintenace by the book and just gave up on it because I got to a point I was to nauseous and tired to really care! LOL! But because I have been on Atkins long enough to know better, I don't go crazy. Yes, I do eat carbs but I don't go nuts. I have rice once in a while, I do eat some bread but not much and only if I eat pizza which is once a month (big craving for me!). I haven't gone back to sweets really--to be honest, since I have been pregnant, chocolate grosses me out. I can't even think to swallow a candy bar or anything chocolate; it just doesn't interest me. Thank God! It is my biggest weakness off Atkins! So far, I have gained 30 lbs and am not concerned. Don't worry, it is a wonderful thing and if you can't stay on track completely, don't worry about it and think of your baby first. Losing weight is great when you can do it but a baby that has been long awaited, is better! Keep posting in here so I am not alone! lol!

Re: Could I be pregnant?
emmyn74- I would say that you are probably prego. the 2 other times I have done this WOE, I have gotten pregnant. I went to the gyno on 12/24 and when he asked me how I lost some weight, I told him how I was eating and one of the things he told me was, "Don't be surprised if you end up pregnant, because this diet has been proven to work with hormones and irregularity."
So congrats on this new possiblity.
