  • Alternate versions of Fat Fast work!

Last week I introduced myself and finally admitted to being metabolically resistant to weight loss. I was so religious about double and triple checking to make sure that I was not making some kind of error in calculating my carbs.
Well, I only had to do my alternate version of the fat fast for it break through and I am finally losing.
I took many of the items in the Atkins book and simply combined them to make a soup. I counted carbs but not calories. My 4 servings of the soup in its entirety contained only 7 carbs... most were in the form of oinion and spinach. the rest was protein and fat with about a good half being fat of one form or another.
I lost 4 pounds in three days but only did the fat fast for two... I did not want to do it for too long because I know that losing too quickly is very dangerous.
Now I am slowly adding protein but still stay at around 15-17 carbs per day. Any more than that and I simply do not lose.
I was never hungry. I am in Ketosis... I realize that I may have to rotate my body back and forth in and out of the fat fast to lose the weight.
I will also being seeing my doc about my thyroid hypo problems again and will likely get another adjustment.
So, if you can't stand the idea of the foods on the fat fast, I'd be happy to share what worked for me.

Sounds like you did a liquid induction and not the fat fast if you only had half your cals as fats since the fat fast is around 90% of the cals as fats with very little protein and carbs. things like cream cheese or macadamina nuts no spinach nor onions.

Glad you got some weight to drop with your controlled carbs and cals. be careful cause too low cals and carbs will fry your thyroid even more then it already is.

BTW did you know spinach is a goitrogen food and interferres with thyroid hormone prodction?

Liquid diets have different effects on your metabolism than a low carb diet, typically the lost of lean muscle mass which slows your already slow metabolism even more and confuses your body.

I'm metabolic resistant with insulin resistance and health conditions that make weight loss and exercise difficult. And I can still lose weight on WOE this even when my thyroid levels were out of whack and even without exercising (not recommended however).

Were you in a real stall? A month with no weight loss or no inches lost? That's Dr. Atkins definition of a stall and even then, he recommends a fat fast as the very last resort, that's after looking for other factors that may be stalling your weight loss (foods, medicines, health conditions). I think you jumped too soon into the fat fast and it's not good for your health.

Perhaps if you post more details about yourself and what you are doing, stats, menus, how long you've been on Induction, measurements, etc., instead of jumping right into something so drastic as the fat fast. Many people here can help if you let them.

I have never done the fat fast with all my conditions. My weight loss is slow and frustrating at times, I have stalls, I have months when I only lose 2-3 lbs if that. What I have found that works best is too eat well and properly and consistently and not second guess when you are not losing weight as you hope.

Please let us help you in trying to figure out what's going on. Folks here are great for that and helped me tons, especially 2big!

I'm also stalled. How did you make the soup?

Just because you're stalled doesn't mean you should even think about doing any modification of the fat fast ... it's more likely to screw up your metabolism even more than it is to help you.

Moving to OWL would probably be of real help to you.

If you do the diet screwy and don't lose weight, then it's your fault.

If you gave up cream and sodas on March 1, then today is your 10th day without them. A stall is defined as four consecutive weeks with no weight loss or loss of inches, while following Atkins correctly. For you, it's only been 10 days. You're not stalled.

Instead of looking for a quick fix for your problem, I'd suggest you post a complete menu, with amounts and net carbs for all foods and drinks.
