  • Too much heavy cream & diet pop!

Thanks for reminding me to start a different thread. I got chatter there.

I've wanted to post this for a couple weeks, but actually I was embarrased too. I thought I would "change my ways tomorrow" and like my eating it got totally out of control. I won't lie, but I'm sad to say I'm drinking about 6 oz. of heavy cream a day and probably 1 to 1 1/2 liter of diet mt. dew. It started with a little cream and pop, and as much as I've been addicted to pop (I use to drink about 3 -4 liters a day!) I should've known better.

    My typical menu is:

(of course the diet pop throughout the day)

Breakfast: 2 egg omelot, with 1oz. cheese and sometimes alittle green peppers, onions or mushrooms, though I don't know exactly how much of these veggies I put in the omelot.

    Lunch: 2 cups iceberg lettuce
    1 oz. cheese
    about 6 green olives
    1/4 of a large cucumber
2 tbsp. of either oil & vinager or ken's blue cheese dressing

Snack: 3/4 cup of cucumber with a little vinager, or 2 oz of swiss cheese.

Dinner: I either have chicken, hamburger or fish 8 oz. on the George Foreman. Of course topped with 1 oz. cheese. Honestly, no veggies.

    Snack: Pork rinds

Late night snack about 10 p.m. 4 - 6 oz. heavy cream with 12 oz. of diet root beer.

Boy, when I see it in black and white, I REALLY go downhill at night.
Tommorow, beside the heavy cream and pop, should I also give up the cheesse?

    Thanks for your help!

As has been noted, Mountain Dew isn't acceptable on Induction due to the "concentrated orange juice" in the list of ingredients.

    >>sometimes alittle green peppers, onions or mushrooms, though I don't know exactly how much of these veggies I put in the omelot.>>

Step 1 ... make vegetables a standard part of your eggs.

    >>Dinner: I either have chicken, hamburger or fish 8 oz. on the George Foreman. Of course topped with 1 oz. cheese. Honestly, no veggies.>>

    Need vegetables.

    >> Snack: Pork rinds>>

Have vegetables instead. These are a nutritional waste.

    >> Late night snack about 10 p.m. 4 - 6 oz. heavy cream with 12 oz. of diet root beer.>>

The limit is 2-3 Tbs. of cream.

How much WATER were you drinking?

    >>when I see it in black and white, I REALLY go downhill at night.>>

    That's why journaling is helpful.

Now you need to add the net carbs of what you're eating.

    >>should I also give up the cheesse?>>

If it's taking the place of vegetables, then you should cut down.

While 3-4 ounces is the maximum, you could try eating less.

Getting rid of the diet soda (all of it) and the cream is step 1. Adding more vegetables is next in importance.

Re: Too much heavy cream & diet pop!

This is a great post. I think so many of us have done exactly this. Started off with a little treat that got bigger and bigger and then before we knew it we had a PROBLEM. I know I have been there a couple of times. Great job to stop it and straighten it.

      My suggestion would be:
Eat a more substantial lunch. You are going to need some more protein. Add some meat or fish or egg to that salad.

For dinner - add more fat. It will keep you fuller longer and make it less needed for you to turn to snacks. And yes veggies are great. With nutrients the body will feel happier and not send craving signals

WOW! I didn't know that dt. mt. dew had orange concentrate in it. I actually went out to our recycle bin and pulled out my empty bottle to see it for myself. LOL I love the omelet in the morning and I'll measure and definetly add more veggies. I'm going to stick to 2 oz of cheese per day and I definetly have to get into the habit of eating some sort of veggies with dinner. I gonna go cold turkey Sunday with the cream and diet pop.

As far as veggies at night for a snack, would baby carrots be O.K.? And regarding water, in Jan. when I staying away from pop, I averaged about 125 oz a day. I have a cup that holds 25 oz and I just mark it off on they dry erase board as I drink them thru out the day. But since I've been drinking so much pop I haven't been keeping track of how much water, I would guess I only get between 50 -75oz.

Thanks for your help! On the upside I've been going to the ymca everyday during the week and I can bend over to tie my shoe without passing out! Ha Ha

Liv, Thanks for the idea of hard boiled eggs or meat on my salad. That extra protein will help me get thru the afternoon. Since chicken and hamburger are so different in fat, how much fat would you think I should try to get. I can always eat more chicken. Honestly I usually have 1 boneless, skinless chicken brease but I really always want to have a 2nd. Would that be O.K.?

Carrots are too starchy to be allowed on induction. Check the list of allowed foods to see what you like. I am not a big fan of eating veggies without adding a bit of fat to them. So dip in a bit of ranch dressing maybe. Peppers are very nutritious.

I think if the problem is that you get hungry and then make snacking a priority - sure increase your dinner protein portion. But if you eat chicken smother it in some butter (or eat the skin). That extra amount of fat is going to make you lose fat easier and stay on the straight and narrower easier.

Do you have the list of Acceptable Foods for Induction?

They're in Chapter 11 of your book.

If you need a list to print:

              >>I would guess I only get between 50 -75oz.>>

              The MINIMUM is 64.

Aiming for 1/2 your current weight in ounces will be of benefit to you.

              Cool!

              >>how much fat would you think I should try to get.>>

On Induction, 60-75% of your calories should come from fat.
